Welcome to The Chop Match Club, my entry in the 2023 World Cup of Design Competition.
This course is based in The Chop Hills of North Eastern Colorado and inspired by Tom Doak's Ballyneal in the same location in real life. The greens are published at 145 speed but were designed at 186 so can be bumped to Fast and Very Fast for differing difficulties. There are four minipulated tees that provide different angles and lengths for individual holes but all come out to the same overall distance. The course is a CC/Kinetic level on the base conditions but can possible reach an easier Elite level with conditions ramped up. Lower winds make a casual round where the preferred driving locations offer a subtle advantage, pushing the winds up to high highten both the risk and reward going for the aggressive routes. The course was designed for all wind conditions but East is a fun wind I have found.
For judging purposes please use the Blue Tees.
Like Ballyneal (and apparent in the name) this course was designed as a match play course. Par is a bit irrelivant as I was more focused on the individual routes and strategies playing head to head. With that I used short grass almost as mini hazards to avoid. With that you are never out of it on a hole, but someone hitting the more aggressive spots just has an advantage over someone going more conservative. But you are guarenteed an easy par round going the conservative approach. I do forsee some judging notes being the scorability of the course but this was done on purpose as to premote battling each otehr for scores rather then winning by being the one less beat up by a brusing course. Also the suspense of a match is hightened by never being out of it even if you miss the optimal route off the tee.
