Just a tip for you Roberto and jcauthen04 . I have every setting on max on this game and did some tests with graphic settings for you guys, I simply set Sky quality from high to low, high cloud quality from ultra to high and fog shadow quality from ultra to low and those 3 settings gave me a rise of 20fps. SSGI ( Screen space global illumination) I know is very expensive to framerates and to lower spec graphic cards. Turning that off gave me another extra 16 fps. I know when I had the previous games with my GTX 1080 I couldn't hit 60 fps at max settings at 1440p. I use to turn off sky and fog shadow as they really hit framerates without much improvement on visual fidelity, I was getting 28 to 30fps by lowering those settings on my older card in TGC 2019 and 2K21. I've set the sky, clouds, and fog all to your suggested values and it definitely helped with the frame rate. I didn't mind giving up the little bit of detail they added for what I got in return for performance. I've always had SSGI off. I broke down and ordered an i7-4770 to replace my i5-4440. The i7 is the highest order CPU my motherboard can accommodate. Game-Debates.com says the 4770 has 35% more processing power than the 4440. I'll be able to see how that translates into FPS tomorrow if the delivery comes through as expected.

Quick update with 6700XT Almost all graphics maxed out apart from sky, high cloud and fog shadow, MSAA high, supersampled at 150 capped at 60 FPS (due to an old 60hz monitor) is perfectly smooth and really nice for the eye. No stuttering, no tearing and very smooth gameplay !
Trying to play a little bit with radeon sync options but in game capped FPS with V-SYNC looks like the best solution at the moment

MSAA will tank your performance especially when used with super sampling. You can actually use Supersampling with your AMD software also, they call it VSR (Virtual Super Resolution) and you can pick the resolution yourself rather than the game's slider over 100%.

Thank you for the explanation, I will have to understand how to manage VSR as in ìn-game the max resolution is 1080p even if VSR is enabled in the AMD adrenalin software. Following AMD instructions make me think that the game does not support VSR as I'm not getting higher resolutions than 1080P From AMD website

It sounds like you've been having some fun playing your game on your deck, but have been experiencing some issues with your PC server lately. It's frustrating when you're used to a certain level of performance and then things start to glitch out. It's great that you were able to carry on with your second round and everything was back to normal. It's possible that it was just a one-off bad server experience. Also, on a slightly different note, have you had a chance to check out the solitaire cash review? It might be a fun way to mix things up and try out a new game.

What’s the best settings on the steam deck for 2k23. Default settings are very playable but chew through the battery in 3-4 rounds.
Windowed mode or full screen? What does this change ?
I capped the deck to a framerate of 40 that has helped, also set fsr to on but not sure what it does. Vsync on looks rough so quickly set that to off. fsr is set to balanced & super sampling @ 100. Let me know if anyone got some good suggestions please. Also many games I want to play don’t work so is an official windows boot option coming or do I need to work something else out. Also EA play purchased through Microsoft does not allow access to trials on steam so that’s a bit sh%$, is there a workaround?

I have to be honest I don't play the game on Steam Deck really as the stick position is not great for me with analog swing. I have played it a little bit with 3 click. What's cool about Steam Deck is you can actually change the refresh rate to 40hz from 60hz you are not just capping the framerate at 40 with a 60hz refresh rate, I am not sure how vsync works with it but in theory it should work ok at 40hz also as vsync is meant to sync with your screen refresh rate. I generally use full screen rather than windowed in games. FSR at such a low res as 720p personally I would only use quality. What games are not running for you?

I changed the refresh rate & frame rate to 40. I read that it saves on battery power. I can run 2K23,Perfect Golf & Fallen order with no issues but I bought both the Dice SW Battlefront games & they will not launch from Steam. Also can the CPU top out for prolonged periods without causing damage? If I get greedy with the visuals it does put a load on & it’s up in the high nineties.

CPU's throttle when they reach high temps so no way are you damaging it. Also games don't tax CPU's highly as other CPU intensive programs do on PC. The lower FPS the lower power consumption of the deck as it isn't taxing the CPU and GPU, also lower temps.

Question for those of you who have VRR or freesync displays, and are playing EA Sports PGA Tour game with vsync off on PCs that are capable of running it at >60 FPS; do you still see stuttering and judder?
I'm thinking about buying a new PC that is capable of running the game, at least in 1440p, at > 60 FPS, in at least high detail settings. If I do that, it will also have to be accompanied by the purchase of a new VRR capable HDTV. However, if I can't get some confirmation that VRR provides any real help for this game, when driven by a computer that can tote the load, it might not be worth it.

I have an LG C2 which has Gsync built in so VRR it works from 30hz to 120hz. This game is butter smooth with VRR, you can either cap framerate to a few frames under your refresh rate or turn on VSync which will only kick in if you exceed 120fps. As you are looking at a TV your resolution will be 4k, I recommend buying an Nvidia RTX card as DLSS is so much better than FSR 2 from my experience. I have been playing Jedi Survivor which is limited to FSR 2 and it just doesn't cut it visually for me, very disappointed with it. 2K23 is not really a demanding game I hit from 90 to 120fps with my 4070ti in native 4K.

Thanks Hammers, I went back and changed my question to clarify that I was speaking of EA Sports PGA Tour. The game feels like it's being played underwater to me on my Series X at 30 FPS, but it also still has that overly governed animation speed feel to it on my PC, when I'm running the game at 720p and 60 FPS. I have to turn vsync off and frame rate off to get it to achieve that, but it's not a good situation when I'm doing that with a locked refresh rate HDTV. I can't imagine playing 2K23 at 90 to 120 FPS in 4K... WOW! One of the systems I'm looking at has an RTX-4070 (12 GB) in it. You might have just helped me make my decision!

EA PGA Tour is an awful port in my experience. Very limited in graphic options, the swing has awful input lag by design so it feels like you're streaming the game even with higher framerates. There are zero upscaling options which is unheard of with most recent PC games so you will be running at native 4K and will have to drop a few settings to maintain 60 fps. Of course with VRR it doesn't matter if you just drop below your 60 fps target. The RTX 4070 is a great card, you'll see a huge performance upgrade from your 1070, you will also be getting DLSS 3. I use DLSS 3 for Plague Tale and Witcher 3 when running Ray Tracing, both games look fantastic. You will also be amazed how good DLSS is in performance mode (upscaled from 1080p). DLSS 3 doesn't make games more responsive but those higher framerates really make them run so much smoother.
