I have been really enjoying the slippery fast greens that brought fear into this game and made lag putting and reading slopes a needed skill using the default ball. But now we are near qualifying and it is likely the majority of qualifiers will use balls that change firm and fast to soft and slow, if I don't play that ball than I'm gonna get crushed in qualifying. It's unfortunate schedulers can't dictate a specific ball, that would be ideal.

Look, play as you wish with the ball you want, but for the record, your message states that you don't have much problems with default ball and 2 lines later, there's an horrible story about an unsollicited quad using the default ball. Yes some Platinium greens are tough to stay on, but don't be fooled by 2K23 on this one. There's a diffence between tough and just plain impossible. I feel amd read lots of confusion about all these balls from several players playing outside pro tours. Those calling consumables magic balls don't get it at all and they will soon realise there's nothing magic, only one ball is complete trash and they will have to play bad with it to understand how it works. The name of the ball is deceptive. "Default" sounds like middle or normal. It's not. It's the worst of all. Even in case you like the extra rolling of default ball that makes it hard to stay on greens, there's a special one with the same kind of extra rolling and better distances or effects. No, my message states that I don’t know what ball I’m using if you read it correctly. I asked a question… I bought a ball once and never again so I don’t know if I’m still using the ball I bought or it went back to default because you have to reload them. All I know is I’ve had no problem playing these difficulty settings until the platinum test course, which was damn near an impossible course. I don't think it automatically replenishes, so you'll go back to the default. But I'm not 100% sure.

I totally agree with hammers. Its like saying well today Tiger or Rory or any pro golfer,'just a heads up today boys the greens are bit quick so take this ball it will slow them down a bit..only 300 for 4 balls..mind you they only last 1 round so stock up while they are cheap'. Yeah, conceptually it's pretty silly. But so is applying fittings to three separate parts of every club in your bag. At this point, it's easier for me to just suspend my disbelief. On top of that - from the discussion in some of the higher tier players' streams, there's certainly no "go to" ball. Seems to be pretty specific to each person's style of play and current club/fittings setup. So while it's nonsensical, I think it allows for some creativity in character development and individual round strategy. i get the creativity part but its like fifa having a guarunteed penalty goal no matter what the goalkeeper does if you have a certain ball...or never crashing in any racing game if you have a certain engine..total nonsense.

I think that's overstating it a bit (course conditions and course management are important), but I get where you're coming from.

In physics, there's an equivalance principle wich states that moving in train at 100mph in North direction is exaclty the same than being static on the train and have the landscape moving at 100mph South. You couldn't say wich one is happeining if you didn't feel the acceleration of the train (and we had the technology to make the lanscpae move! 😝). But the 2 are the same situation at 100% Having a front wind of 15 mph with a ball that can travel 330y is exaclty the same than having a front wind of 10mph with a ball that can travel 320y. The 2 situation are the same at 100%. You guys are just compmaining that HB took the 2nd option to make THE SAME THING happened than a ball that don't modify the wind, but can go longer.

I mean I'm just assuming but I feel like it makes sense. 2k23 plays well on master vs 2k21, but I haven't seen anything that says it plays easier than 2k21 on pro. On pro last season there was only 1 xbox player in the top 100wgr and they made around half the cuts. With plat now playing a total field size around cut line last season and not clearing demos by making cuts...you can see my logic there, right? I could be wrong but it just seems very unlikely that xbox is going to be able to get to plat and compete, and the majority of players who are likely to be on plat would prefer the toughest challenge of legend. I only asked because I saw Doyley first announce plat on master for xbox players, but then saw after the smaller plat size announcement. Just seems like those two contradict each other. But who knows, it is a "new" game after all. From what I've seen master on 2k23 offers a much closer experience across platforms than Pro did on 2k21 just by virtue of off-tempo shots not being penalised as much and swingplane being more of a factor. I tend to agree we'll still find it tough to get into the top 50 (that's an elite group!) but think the gameplay will be significantly more balanced across platforms. Shame I'm shite at this version haha I don't want to hear it Craig. "Your" version of shite for your game is only shooting 8 under per round LOL

I have not used a single magic bean ball. I think the concept could of been okay to a point (more flight, less spin, roll, ect) but the ball changing the course I am not on board with. Question: I assume rangering approvals are done on default balls. Are we to assume that whomever comes up with the playing conditions of each event is also doing so as if everyone is playing a default ball? When rangering, we can use any golf ball or settings we wish. Green slopes are being judged by the old 9-box rule, where there can be no yellow, orange, or red color within the 9 boxes of the grid surrounding the cup (with some common sense used in certain situations, of course). I will admit, it's hard to know the difficulty of courses now in 2K23, since the conditions will vary greatly depending on which golf balls people are using. But at this stage, we're basically ensuring courses have no lag, have playable pins for the flight the course is set for, and let everything else fall where it may, in terms of difficulty and consumable golf balls changing the course, knowing that things could potentially change down the line as well. Players greatly appreciate this rangering too, especially after playing career mode and seeing 117 green speed and overly extreme slopes on putts between 5-7 feet lol. It's outrageous and just unrealistic.

I don't think it automatically replenishes, so you'll go back to the default. But I'm not 100% sure. Say you own 3 legendary aviator balls and you equip them and play the first round. They then stay equipped unless you un-equip them by equiping the default ball again or they run out. So after 3 rounds they would run out and you'd be back on the default ball again. So if you only intend to use one for a special round remember to un-equip them after that round.

Even in case you like the extra rolling of default ball that makes it hard to stay on greens, there's a special one with the same kind of extra rolling and better distances or effects. Default balls are far from trash, they have way more spin than 2K21 ever had. You can even get good bite if you apply spin to splash shot. The problem is the greens are much faster than ever before and they need to be compensated. 160 greens are close to 187 from 2K21. If 170 is too fast for a course then it shouldn't be set up that fast. It's all getting really arcady now and I do have agree magic balls is a good term, I prefer Mario Golf balls myself. The good thing is honour societies can stick to default balls and good course condition set ups. A bit of a downward spiral HB are going. Balls that affect course conditions and wind speed is just so tacky and is all about making money. I hope EA go down a more simulation route and it sounds like it with the improved ball physics for their next game. The whole concept of turning fast greens into medium green speed with a ball is a stupid an idea for a golf game as as I've ever heard. My biggest frustration is just that. There's no reason to have these green speeds be so penalizing and with so much run off with default balls. Any course with 150 or higher is just way too silly. And also, turning these fast greens into medium green speeds with a ball is one of the worst pay to compete shams I've ever seen. I'm fully prepared to listen to what EA has with their new game. Just because I enjoy this game so far, does it mean I like the route HB/2K has taken with this version as well as the previous trash game. They won't get a single additional dime out of me via any microtransaction.

If that's the case I have a lot less of a problem with this attribute. I was under the impression they reduced wind effect. So then it's just the roll out one that's a problem for society set ups.
Even the roll out issue is a non-issue - the legendary balls pay for themselves:
4 round TGC event:
4 legendary balls cost 300VC (you buy 12 for 900)
Play 4 rounds - you get 25 * 4 coins for completing each round. You also get around 750-800 XP per round - so just over 3000......which just happens to be one level (3150 XP once you get to level 50) - which earns 250 coins.
So during the four rounds, you gain 350, and spend 300.
So really no reason for anyone to say they can't play legendary balls all the time......
And if everyone can therefore afford them - then they, in effect, become the new 'default' - just gotta choose which one you want of the four - and they are actually pretty well balanced between the four.....each has good points and not-so-good points.
Shrug
So I don't know HOW you figured this all out but I have questions. 1) Can you "purchase" these legendary balls at ANY time, using VC or do you have to wait for those end of round cards that pop up? 2) You indicate for a 4 round TGCT event, you'd use 4 balls (1 per round). Hitting into the water doesn't "consume" a ball, correct? Sounds to me like if you're smart and manage your VC efficiently, you can buy legendary balls when needed and use them any week you play Tours. You indicate they may cost a bit but you also state you're getting VC when leveling up and getting EXP when completing a round. I still don't like this consumable ball tactic but I like how you explained this. Almost makes it sound like, anyone who wants to play to the best of their ability SHOULD be using these balls and the VC it costs isn't as penalizing as many of us think it is.

1) Yes - you can buy them anytime that you have the VC to do so. To buy them, just go to My Player / Locker - click on the ball and choose the one you want - click Refill - you get the option of 3/6/12 balls to buy. To use them, click equip. Then you will use one of those balls in the next round you play. 2) You don't lose a ball if you hit it in the water - so you simply use one ball per round. You can also then swap out the 'purchased' ball for the default one if you want to use that ball for a society event, or your Friday night Xbox games (for example)
Basically once you are equipped for club fittings, you will have minimal expenses apart from balls - and as I said, the cost of them is covered by the rewards from the rounds anyway. And if you use a default (free) ball for non-TGCT rounds, then you make further profit from that too.
Obviously you want to build a war-chest of VC anyway - society entry fees, further fittings that are better than you current ones etc.

" Fast greens plays well on default if the pins are good " There you go, you said it. If it was a trial and I would make an advocacy, I would say you just lost it right here. What are you gonna say when you stumbled on a lidar course that is unplayable at 155? Bad pins locations!? lol! A bad pins location creates this: you miss a putt/chips by an inch and it's either coming back your feets or going out of the greens somewhere else. Anyway, I'll keep change the conditions with balls, and you keep begging TST scheduler to make conditions playable for default ball. The thing is even if the course is completely playable on 160 greens people will be slowing them right down with unrealistic golf balls.just to make it easier. Should every single player slow them down so we don't have a fast green set up ever. Firm conditions, let's throw them out of the window also as normal conditions are so much nicer. Man let's just play the game on easier course conditions because who want a challenge when -70 is the most important thing It is is a totally laughable set up that doesn't deserve any defence. I very probably won't be play TST with the way HB are trying to destroy competitive play, thank god for society play. I want to play a course how it is set up condition wise for that given day. If we're playing the Open with very firm conditions give me that test, not the ability to nullify it with Magic arcade Mario golf balls because I struggle in firm conditions. It's total crap and total arcade rubbish. Wait until EA comes out and they have that magic power booster that you hit in mid flight of your drive and turns a 315 yd drive into 405 yrds.

The problem is these companies don’t care about the hardcore player who wants some realism.
The game should have been programmed to allow TGC to turn off all consumable golf balls.
How do they allow anybody setting up a society to turn off some aides but not allow the same with golf balls? The only mode that these magic balls should be used for is Divot Derby. Keep the arcade crap with the arcade modes.

Final words on balls, everyone should listen to Marie Kondo. Does default ball sparks joy? You decide! 😝 And you're so right about casual players outweigthing the hardcore ones. You just have to look at official courses play vs top creates ones. It will end at 4.3 millions play vs 30K for best ones. The math is simple, the majority of people buying this game will never know there's other courses than official. It's not clear you gotta go searchong in local match. And 2K don't even know their casual players. They wanted better online matchmaking. That's what the casual players wants. And 2K anwsered by changing nothing, expect removing the leaderboard. 🤦 As soon I saw this, I knew EA Sports will kill this game. They will steal the casuals in a flash
