If that's the case I have a lot less of a problem with this attribute. I was under the impression they reduced wind effect. So then it's just the roll out one that's a problem for society set ups.
Even the roll out issue is a non-issue - the legendary balls pay for themselves:
4 round TGC event:
4 legendary balls cost 300VC (you buy 12 for 900)
Play 4 rounds - you get 25 * 4 coins for completing each round. You also get around 750-800 XP per round - so just over 3000......which just happens to be one level (3150 XP once you get to level 50) - which earns 250 coins.
So during the four rounds, you gain 350, and spend 300.
So really no reason for anyone to say they can't play legendary balls all the time......
And if everyone can therefore afford them - then they, in effect, become the new 'default' - just gotta choose which one you want of the four - and they are actually pretty well balanced between the four.....each has good points and not-so-good points.
Shrug
I agree with this, almost! We'll all eventually hit the stage you mention when our fittings are sorted. But I'd wager we aren't all there quite yet. I'm still scrambling and spending a (virtual) fortune on fittings for Q School. So I think Q School is a little too early for everyone to have the spare coins for legendary balls by a week or two. Not a huge deal though and having played the course it's not unplayable on default by any stretch.

True - but the cost IS only 300 coins to play Q-school......

Times it by three for a weirdo like me who won't want to go in without trying them first haha Given all this I wouldn't have a problem with the tours assuming everyone is using ball sleeves when setting up courses. Like you guys have said, it is what it is. And it's not that obnoxious in pricing. Fairly certain I'll never need to buy them.

Wrong at so many levels. The greens are faster and 160 in 2K23 feels close to 2K21 187 yes. But 21 was badly designed on this. The 187 in 2K21 were not speedy enough. It's funny that you talk about arcade play, cause the default ball is pretty much the only one that makes the games completely unrealistic with the never ending spin. Magic balls looks like a ball we see the PGA players use. Default ball look like a pool ball spinning after a big shot. You can call it honour and pure, but you have to create a safe space for the default ball to make it playable. And you don't have played enough with it cause 140 greens can cause the ball get out of certain greens 100% of the time. No need for 170 to make it derail. My favorite part though is "you can even have a good grip if you apply loft and spin". That sounds like someone using a 2 strips balls they found at their local driving range and claiming they are better than Nike one. I'm sure Phil Mickelson could make these shitty balls spin on anything, but the pro takes the best balls for distances, spins or whatever. And, there's one magic with the same rolling than default. Makes very fast greens at 182 and oh surprise, it's now playable and you don't have to adapt 20 000 courses for the worst ball of the game. Well I completely disagree with you on every level. I only use default balls I don't loft up or apply gimmicky spin to longer irons. But the spin ratios on shorter irons, wedges is realistic without applying spin. Rough lies roll out realisticly. There are poor mechanics on the game, for example you can draw and fade wedges way too much, 3 irons out of poor lies in heavy rough. Now regarding slowing and speeding up green speeds, firmness with a golf ball. Yes is is very arcady as arcade as it gets in my book, you are manipulating the course conditions with a friggin golf ball 🤣. If the course is set up with silly pins having to change the green speed with a ball is totally missing the point. Courses setups should be savvy to pin placements or maybe those pins should be there anyway. Yeah they should have never make the ball change the conditions. But it's only laziness, It's a cheap and simple way to achieve the same exact goal: having a better ball than default, cause default ball is unplayable over 170 as you know. Takes 5 minutes to code instead of creating 17 different balls with 17 different physics attitude. Very easy to get, but purety is in the way! Enjoy the chase of moderate greens all season long!

Correct me if I'm wrong but you seem to be saying the greens in 2k21 weren't fast enough but then say we shouldn't use the default ball in 2k23 because the greens are too fast with it? But surely using the other balls simply reduces the green speeds to something like 21 speed? Unless I've misunderstood which is very possible! I don't think the balls are game breaking, they're cheap enough. But I do agree with Hammersman that it's awful game design. It's very App Store in principle and - in my opinion at least - they are in the game only to strongarm people who don't play much into having to spend rather than adding to the gameplay otherwise they would be a one-time unlock rather than a consumable that expires after use. Same with the fittings. Absolutely no reason to charge per fit once they've been earned other than financial considerations for 2K. It's pretty much that. But for the speed of greens in 21, let say me say it another way. Take a 25f straight putt in example. Here's approx the strenght of the putt we had to make in in 21: On 144 greens: 44% On 163 greens: 43% On 187 greens: 42% It should have been something like 44%, 41% and 38%. Having to hit way softer on 187 and if you add 196 greens, that's another giant change and same 25f putt would have been around 33% of strenght to reach it. They made it a weird way I agree, cause we will never play on 196 greens. I mean, it's possible, but you need a Beer League course type. Big greens, no yellow slopes on the green. Otherwise it's gonna be ugly pretty fast. Or you take something else and greens arent 196 anymore. So they made the speed of greens good, but they messed with the ball. The greater balls should have a penalty coming with it. You want more distance? Fine, you lose tempo. You want less rolling on the green, fine you lose 10 pts on swing path everywhere, etc...

Most certainly won't be chasing moderate greens, fast greens play well on default if the pins are good. Now this isn't a deal breaker as my society has an honour system that we've used for 5 years on different settings and shots and the course set up will be realistic pins and green speed and default balls. The problem is here for you guys, people are playing different course conditions and that's just silly. It is getting as far away from a level playing field as there is now, it won't be that's a great score in those conditions, it will be they changed those conditions with a golf ball to make it easier. It is just not golf at all in my book. I only play default balls and no grids but my putting is probably better as I always putted dead weight on 2K21, never tried to force the ball in the hole to negate break. So I am finding a lot of putts just dropping by catching the hole edge and I really like 160 speed greens in the game, I also like the slower greens in this game as the ball rollout is much more realistic, on 2K21 it felt like putting on mud at times. I hated anything under 140 in the last game where I enjoy even 110 greens on 2K23.

If it was a trial and I would make an advocacy, I would say you just lost it right here. What are you gonna say when you stumbled on a lidar course that is unplayable at 155? Bad pins locations!? lol! A bad pins location creates this: you miss a putt/chips by an inch and it's either coming back your feets or going out of the greens somewhere else. Anyway, I'll keep change the conditions with balls, and you keep begging TST scheduler to make conditions playable for default ball.

The thing is even if the course is completely playable on 160 greens people will be slowing them right down with unrealistic golf balls.just to make it easier. Should every single player slow them down so we don't have a fast green set up ever. Firm conditions, let's throw them out of the window also as normal conditions are so much nicer. Man let's just play the game on easier course conditions because who want a challenge when -70 is the most important thing It is is a totally laughable set up that doesn't deserve any defence. I very probably won't be play TST with the way HB are trying to destroy competitive play, thank god for society play. I want to play a course how it is set up condition wise for that given day. If we're playing the Open with very firm conditions give me that test, not the ability to nullify it with Magic arcade Mario golf balls because I struggle in firm conditions. It's total crap and total arcade rubbish.

I totally agree with hammers. Its like saying well today Tiger or Rory or any pro golfer,'just a heads up today boys the greens are bit quick so take this ball it will slow them down a bit..only 300 for 4 balls..mind you they only last 1 round so stock up while they are cheap'.

Yeah, conceptually it's pretty silly. But so is applying fittings to three separate parts of every club in your bag. At this point, it's easier for me to just suspend my disbelief. On top of that - from the discussion in some of the higher tier players' streams, there's certainly no "go to" ball. Seems to be pretty specific to each person's style of play and current club/fittings setup. So while it's nonsensical, I think it allows for some creativity in character development and individual round strategy.

I remember buying a ball with more spin a while back but I think you have to continue reloading them, correct? If that’s the case I think I’ve been using default ball for a while now without much problems because I never reloaded that particular ball. I think the course and conditions were just ridiculous. I was +3 midway through my second round and then ended up with a quad bogey after landing the ball on the green several times only to watch it roll back down a slope into the water. Then Double bogeyed the next hole and said @!$# this. Look, play as you wish with the ball you want, but for the record, your message states that you don't have much problems with default ball and 2 lines later, there's an horrible story about an unsollicited quad using the default ball. Yes some Platinium greens are tough to stay on, but don't be fooled by 2K23 on this one. There's a diffence between tough and just plain impossible. I feel amd read lots of confusion about all these balls from several players playing outside pro tours. Those calling consumables magic balls don't get it at all and they will soon realise there's nothing magic, only one ball is complete trash and they will have to play bad with it to understand how it works. The name of the ball is deceptive. "Default" sounds like middle or normal. It's not. It's the worst of all. Even in case you like the extra rolling of default ball that makes it hard to stay on greens, there's a special one with the same kind of extra rolling and better distances or effects. No, my message states that I don’t know what ball I’m using if you read it correctly. I asked a question… I bought a ball once and never again so I don’t know if I’m still using the ball I bought or it went back to default because you have to reload them. If you have to continue to reload and buy the ball you want after every certain number of rounds, that’s another reason to quit this game because that’s ridiculous lol. All I know is I’ve had no problem playing these difficulty settings until the platinum test course, which was damn near an impossible course. Either way it doesn’t matter since I notice Xbox can’t compete with other consoles, once again so I’m prob not playing tgct once again. I don’t give a damn what ball I’m using nor do I care what others are using. I just said something about the course set up and someone mentioned you have to have a legendary ball to compete so I replied. Every course should be playable with the default ball. You shouldn’t have to buy balls to be able to compete.
