Wow there's a lot of chatter about these balls , I personally would like to see them locked in society's and I think it's pretty dumb that it changes green speeds . I've been using default ball 95 % of the time and only the last couple of days been experimenting with different balls and it's growing on me that it adds more course management to the game which im all for.The balls don't cost a lot so u won't have to spend real money but its conditions u gotta look for , firm firm fast now do I take a friction or magnet , bounce or no bounce spin or no spin , roll or no roll . Can be confusing so it could be an idea to stick to one ball and learn it rather then use all different balls . One thing is its your choice and the biggest element of all is YOUVE STILL GOTTA EXECUTE that shot .

Can you change ball or archetypes between society rounds? Yes you can.

Flight is purely extra distance (which is shown prior to the shot) - the wind still affects the ball the same

Flight is purely extra distance (which is shown prior to the shot) - the wind still affects the ball the same If that's the case I have a lot less of a problem with this attribute. I was under the impression they reduced wind effect. So then it's just the roll out one that's a problem for society set ups.

Spin doesn't increase wind effect either - it just increases the backspin on landing.

Spin doesn't increase wind effect either - it just increases the backspin on landing. This is straight from the devs' mouths in a Q&A on reddit, when they were asked about the consumable golf balls: Consumable golf balls have 4 attributes; Spin, Flight, Bounce, and Roll. Each attribute impacts how the ball behaves with the environment but there is also a balance of attributes to consider.
- Spin affects RPMs and wind effects.
- Flight affects how much the wind impacts the ball trajectory.
- Bounce affects how the ball interacts with individual surfaces at impact.
- Roll affects how the ball travels along individual surfaces.

Even the roll out issue is a non-issue - the legendary balls pay for themselves:
4 round TGC event:
4 legendary balls cost 300VC (you buy 12 for 900)
Play 4 rounds - you get 25 * 4 coins for completing each round. You also get around 750-800 XP per round - so just over 3000......which just happens to be one level (3150 XP once you get to level 50) - which earns 250 coins.
So during the four rounds, you gain 350, and spend 300.
So really no reason for anyone to say they can't play legendary balls all the time......
And if everyone can therefore afford them - then they, in effect, become the new 'default' - just gotta choose which one you want of the four - and they are actually pretty well balanced between the four.....each has good points and not-so-good points.

Lol - you think the devs actually know how their game works? They didn't even know (after 2 years) about the leaderboard glitches, false commentary etc.
Testing the balls says differently to the devs.....

Haha...touché. I guess I am not saying they're right. I am just sharing what they said.

I mean, what they say makes sense in real world situations re spin... however if in testing it doesn't work that way - colour me unsurprised.

This is all of useful, interesting and intriguing... I'll keep plugging away as I always do and figure stuff out, but thanks

It's not just about how much they cost. It's about being able to change the green and course conditions that designers and schedulers intend the tournament to be played on.

Let's just say that my testing uncovered a very-unintuitive method for increasing driver distance the most........one which is definitely not what you would try to do in the real world....
