I've returned after a very long hiatus (Last publish was Peccary Hill back in late October). I've been working on this project for a few weeks, which shows how little time I have had to be on. It's inspired by Castlerock, Port Stewart, St. Lytham and Annes, Deal, and the New Course. With some liberties taken on a few holes. Front is winding through low dunes and then starting with 8 you find some very large dunes and play along a river back to the clubhouse. The goal is a "hard" course while maintaining fairness and realism.
The view from the first tee box, a long difficult opener playing over 500 yards from the tips and typically straight downwind or into the wind. Definitely the firmest of handshakes to open your round.
The medium par 5 4th. A riff on a road hole. Playing cross-wind with bunkers guarding the turn of the fairway.
Here is a view down the fairway of the 605 yard par 5 10th. Reachable with a solid drive.
The Par 4 15th finds the river and you have to manage your way around it on the only bunkerless hole (so far???)
Finally for this post: the "short" (150 yards) par 3 16th. Some pins the slopes will help, others the slopes will help less. Be accurate.

Lost a bit of interest in the Links Project, so I started on a Carolina Sand Hills type course. Inspired by Mid-Pines, Dormie Club, Pine Needles, and a little #2 in there. Have 14 holes routed and have a little planting done. Here are a few pictures of the progress:
#4: A long demanding Par 4
6 Green, with 5 and 9 in the background on the left and 8 and 10 greens in the background on the right
13 from the fairway:
7 from the fairway:
14 green with 1, 12, 11, 2 greens in the background:

Have 16/18 holes routed and mostly sculpted (need to work on some bunkers and runoff areas). Have really decided on a planting palette as you can see in the progress photos below. Probably be the end of July at the earliest before I publish due to vacation and my work schedule.
Hole 13 green. Quite the change from the last post just from planting
Hole 14 from the fairway. Took about 6 iterations to decide on the fairway strategy. Settled on a cape-esque drive with two teeboxes. One will probably ask for a draw and the other a cut.
The short par 4 5th. Driver wedge is possible, but the sloped fairway necessitates an accurate drive with a touch of draw

Have all 18 holes surfaced, just working through planting and micro-sculpting. I actually head out for a 2 week vacation in Europe tomorrow, if anyone wants to take some time and build the clubhouse area for me that would be awesome. I usually devote 0 time to it, but think I could learn from picking apart someones creation. If you are interested let me know and I can send you the file to work on. I will have the file with me on my trip, so no worries about time table. Would welcome feedback on course design as well when you have the file. Planting is only in it's infantile stages. I will probably spend another 3-4 weeks once I'm back finishing that.
Currently tipped out as a par 71 7426 yard course.
A few new shots from the work:
The opening tee shot: a mid length par 5 with water short of the green and plenty of bunkers surrounding it.
The "short" 12th. This is the 4th iteration of the hole. Finally moved it 30 yards to the right towards the water and just made it a wedge/9 iron everyday.
The "Reverse Redan" 16th. The longest par 3 on the course, with plenty of slope to get to the back right pins.
The finishing hole. Built on the side of a hill, there are a few fairway bunkers to navigate. The fairway slopes from right to left, helping with the shot shape into this green.

Have to go out of town for work and then will be gone for another week or 3 depending on circumstances so won't be able to work on this project much for a bit. BUT, to get some feedback (and potentially solicit somehow to build a clubhouse with full credit given) I have gone ahead and published a Beta. JSwiftC3.1
A few notes regarding the Beta - tree planting is 90% complete, grass is about 10%
- Multiple tee boxes are setup, I will mix them up for the actual publish to bring them closer to each other in terms of yardage, just haven't had time to think out how I want them mixed and matched
- There are a few stray grasses, I know, I see them, I'll fix them
- Tell me your thoughts on strategy, play-ability, and overall feel.
Enjoy!

Crunch time. Goal is to publish Monday evening. Have about 5 holes left to plant grass on and edge the fairways. Getting close, want this out before the new game for sure. I've also adjusted the lighting significantly to try to give an overcast feel and cut down on shadows a little bit.
Par 4 11th from the tee. Bunkers on the right provide a little bit of blindness as to how far the fairway is to the right. Green is well protected from the right side though, so a drive out toward the far bunker is probably best. A big slope will give you an uneven lie if you push up too far.
Par 4 4th: Split tees change the strategy off the tee up a little bit, requiring either a cut or a draw into a tight landing area. A forward tee gives the option of taking the bunker on vertically. A stream down the entire left will keep you honest and needs to be avoided again on your approach to a crowned green. All together a fairly tough hole.
Par 3 3rd. Mid-length par 3 with the water short not in play. A draw (for righties) is necessary to get the ball to back pins and a punch bowl feature in the front makes that pin accessible.

Photo 1 looks superb. Great lighting giving the colour pallette a slightly muted tone. Looks like a great environment. Looking forward to having a round!

Pine lake is excellent well done! Was really interested in that links project though so keen to see if you get that finished!

I will definitely try to make a links course in 2k23, but might wait to see what progress they make on pot bunkers.
