Welcome to Toozaza! Toozaza is a Mike Strantz inspired course in a setting based off of Boya Lake in Northwestern Canada (BC). I played Tobacco Road a few months ago and loved the bunkering style, so I knew I had to try something in a similar vein for TGCTours. A hilly, Rocky Mountain/mine setting felt perfect for this kind of quirky course. The elements I've imitated from TR: a few green-sites as homages to TR, the usage of side-board type sculpting on the greens and funnel slopes, intense bunker sculpting and the heavy usage of long grass. What I've avoided using from TR: the extremely harsh tiers they have, slopes that fight the land to an extreme degree, extreme doglegs, and other unnatural and bizarre quirks they have such as a gigantic Biarritz. Hope you guys enjoy the course! For judges and those who aren't that familiar with this style of course: the style I've used is called maximalism, meaning the goal isn't always a perfectly natural look. However, I've tried to mesh the bunkering into the land as naturally as possible and not force too many slopes, but there will be some extreme slopes that may seem abnormal for most courses in this game, as many of these slopes are not very subtle. Please consider this idea of maximalism in mind, as many great courses don't strive to hide their manufactured nature (Ross's hummocks, Raynor, etc.).

Looking forward to playing this one. Great description of Strantz and maximalism too. Playing TR last August has, for better or worse, definitely had an influence on how I think about hole designs.

Thanks! Yeah, TR was pretty unreal, though I felt like it was hard to take too many overall ideas when you have holes like the Biarritz, 9 (the funnel shot with the slope violently fighting the land), and the uphill short par 4 on the back nine was almost unplayable. But there were a few holes that had really great designs, especially the short 3’s. Was also shocked by how good of a hole 13 was (wild signature par 5), thought it would play super gimmicky but it didn’t and it was also insane to look at in person.

Awesome course. That's some drive on 3! What a great hole! There's a lot of great holes on this course but that one in particular is fantastic. Awesome course.

So glad you are going have the pleasure of booting me out of the contest😂 Collick, this is a very scary group largely because you’re slotted at the 4 spot. You’re much more talented than someone who might feel like they barely made the field. You are, without a doubt, very much on the come up in this community and would not at all be surprised if you’re a top designer at some point, and maybe soon, if not by the end of this comp and I'm sure you'll give everyone in this group a real challenge. Also, thanks for the play and compliments! Those were the easiest holes to find on the plot so I’m glad you think they turned out well!

Definitely got the "Tobaccy" vibes on this one. I really liked the look of the approach on #11 with the flag in the opening. The view on #14 tee was b-e-a-utiful. Nice work and good luck in the contest.

What a great course. Every hole had great character and the environment was amazing. Hole 14 blew me away. One of the best if not the most stunning par 3 I've ever seen.
