Old Barren BurnMy entry into the Season 9 CC Contest, Old Barren Burn, has been published. The course (particularly the planting) was inspired by Old Sandwich Golf Club located in Plymouth, MA. Looking for inspiration, I discovered some very unique photos of Old Sandwich COVERED in red bushes. The photographer, LinksGems, said "The course is a beauty and treat to play at any point during the season, but in autumn, when the blueberry bushes turn red, it's downright dazzling". 3 Required Elements Used: - A course with no water hazards/OB
- At least one driveable par 4 (Hole #13)
- At least one par 3 shorter than 125 yards (Hole #14)
* Honorable mention - The B101 (course doesn't exceed changes in elevation greater than 32ft tee to green)
I typically rely heavily on water hazards and elevation changes when designing, so it was a fun challenge for me to step outside my comfort zone on this one. Enjoy!

Always like seeing something that looks a bit different. Particularly enjoyed the par 5 12th here with the punchbowl green.
Greens were on the small side, but still felt there were nice subtle slopes which required some thought about where to hit it. Nice work

Really cool course with lovely colour palette! Cranked the greens up and it worked in my favour.

Love it. Looks really nice - planting is lovely and not just the red bushes which are awesome. The colour pallet you've chosen for the trees, the textures used, the lighting and the weather all work really well together.
Golf's good too. Hole 5 was my favourite - gorgeous hole.

jimgem - Thanks so much for giving this a play. You're a gem (pun intended)! sandgroper - Glad you cranked up the greens (also glad to see they still played well)! I think it's great that you decided to add a voice to your playthroughs! Much appreciated. fargo - Thanks for giving this a spin. A lot of trial and error on the textures/weather, but I'm happy how it turned out. Wish it didn't have to go up against Cormac's! Best of luck in the comp.

Really enjoyed my round here. This track has one of the more unique environments that I have come across in the game. The mist and the soft undertones with the splashes of red and yellow. It made for a really cool round. I especially enjoyed the Par 3 sand island green framed by the beautiful background foliage. Good luck in the competition. I'm thinking this one will go far.

b101 Huge thanks for taking the time to provide 46 minutes of invaluable feedback. It was eye-opening. Funny enough, I was on Fried Egg earlier this week brushing up on some basic design concepts. My immediate takeaway from that and your review here; increase fairway size! That will open the window for providing less "penal" and more "strategic" options throughout the course. You mentioned that it looked like a lot of my planting was multi-planted. Believe it or not, I'd say 95% of it was single planted on Xbox (sigh). Guess I need to step up my game on varying grass types and sizes. You hit the nail on the head when you said the buried red Ash trees might have taken up a lot of my meter. They truly did, so I did my best to use them where I thought they'd give me the biggest bang for my buck. I asked the question about the "b101 elevation change no greater than 32 feet" in the CC discussion thread early on. My takeaway was that I shouldn't exceed 32' from my highest to lowest point on each hole. From the sounds of it, that wasn't the intention. Either way, it challenged my comfort zone, so I'm glad I took a shot at it (and also glad I just listed it as honorable mention!). I quietly celebrated the fact that you didn't have too many issues with my green and bunker sculpting. Those were a major focus of mine during this design. Green and bunker shapes are next on my "gotta get better at it" list along with overall golf strategy. I've seen all the videos and own the books. Just need to build the right plot and execute. It was a fun first contest for me and I'm looking forward to getting enough inspiration to sign up for the next one! Thanks again! MEIKA94 aka Derek

Hey man, sorry it took me so long to get this video back to you; it took me a few tries to get a recording that I was at least vaguely happy with! Hope you enjoy and find the feedback useful, but remember that there are just my opinions so you're certainly free to disagree with and disregard anything I say!
