Course: Coos Crossing Yardage: 7,370 Par: 71 Hi all, This is my Rookie Design Contest entry. I used the extra time over the holidays to finish it up. It by far has taken the most effort of any of my designs to date as I hand sculpted and planted every inch of the plot. Painful, but I am happy with the result. This is a fictional course set in the dunes alongside the Pacific west coast near Coos Bay, Oregon. I was trying for a look and feel similar to that area. The Blue tees play a 7,370 Par 71 layout with four Par 3s' and three reachable Par 5s. There are also many reachable Par 4s if you are willing to take the risk. At first glance, many of the carries that present themselves do not appear to be there , but be sure to check the elevation change and wind direction before passing on those options. The green slopes are a little more challenging than my previous designs, but should be playable at 187. The default is 177. I hope you enjoy! Here are some pics. The Clubhouse: The view of the inlet back towards the Pacific: Par 3 8th: Par 3 16th: Par 4 7th: Par 4 9th: Par 4 11th: From the tee on the Par 4 12th: Par 4 15th: Par 5 14th: Thanks all! Peter

From a fellow rookie, I'd like to say this is a very cool environment. Definitely gave me a Chambers Bay kind of look, yet still different. I don't think I've ever seen someone use sand dunes the way you did here. Typically, the sand does not look good in game when it goes through a lot of quick elevation changes, but I think you were able to pull it off really well with the planting. Very nice course and looking forward to competing against you in the contest!

Always love anyone's take on this spot in Oregon. Such a beautiful region of the country I can't believe there aren't 100 courses in the county, but glad there is another virtual one for me to check out soon.

Gave this one a go this morning and think you did a really good job with the sculpting and environment. Would have liked to see green angles play a bit more into the strategy but you did have a lot of other hole strategy and wonderful use of blind shots. My only real complaint was the auto generated plants that were around your non-planted area.

I always clear them away from around fairways, greens, bunkers, and paths, but typically leave them in no man's land areas vs. having those spots be completely bare terrain. I get your point, though. It can look odd sometimes. Between the 3rd tee and fairway is an example of where I should have perhaps cleared it out. Cheers, Peter

Cheers, Peter Random grasses would have been fine but the plants are what really needed to go. As you go I would suggest that you just turn them off and only plant what you want. Grasses take almost no meter at all (roughly 200 pieces of grass for .1 meter). The plants also tender more than grasses so they tend to stick out.
