My 7 year old daughter was in floods of tears at the end last night. Her first experience of the cruelty of penalties. I think it was the sight of a distraught Saka that set her off, that was a hard watch. Why give a 19 year old with not one professional penalty behind him that kick, I don't get it? I told her not to worry, he's got his whole career ahead of him and he'll be fine. And the beautiful thing with football, you lose a penalty shoot out in July and then before you know it it's World Cup qualifying in September! The dream never dies. These young Lions are the real deal, we'll be back. Over the whole match last night, the better team won. I hope we see them again in Qatar... It was really hard to root against this version of England; they're really likable, much more so than the squads since I've started paying attention to international soccer (which, to be fair, wasn't all that long ago). I thought Saka played really well in the semifinal, was surprised to see him on the bench to start the final. But yeah, England is definitely going to have something to say about the outcome in Qatar. In the hypothetical world where US Soccer gets its collective sh!t together and qualifies, I would be very happy to stay far away from England in groups and bracket play.

Have to admit, City are only playing this week because they committed to this league and will fulfill their fixtures. Not feeling it at the moment. First half, just flat out struggled. There were some good periods of play but so inconsistent. Birdies at 17 and 18 in round 2 will at least give me some interest in the leaderboard tomorrow morning, but I feel I've lost that last green tick. It's tough on the youngsters but they'll learn, the hard way unfortunately. I remember my son being so angry after we lost at home in the JPT Area Final at home to Crewe. After a couple of relegations it was the last straw. But over the years he's learned that supporting Coventry City was never for the glory. We've had a few fun days at Wembley in the Checkatrade and League 2 Play Off finals and a 3rd Division Championship and it makes those, although no big deals, all the more sweeter. For me and England, after many years of disappointment it was nice to be still around on the final day of competition. I remember times of not even qualifying for the major tournaments. Now that's proper hurt. My son has also learned to be more philosophical. He's not 30 yet but has already seen England play in a World Cup Semi Final and a Euro Final over a 3 year period. It's a very young team and these experiences will make them stronger in years to come. I don't agree we lost to the better team, I think we just got the 2nd half wrong, maybe the changes could have been made sooner, but we lost control for a vital period. I think a draw was a fair result and congratulations to Italy for keeping their nerve better than us. Those lads have given us 4 weeks of great fun after an awful time with Covid. What a shame that a tiny minority of thugs and racists have tarnished things. As for the pixel golf it's distressing to see so many falling out of love with the game that they have been heavily committed to over the years. To me there is something not right somewhere, we are seeing all kinds of issues with the stability of the game lately which is affecting players enjoyment. PS4 players experiencing lag. XBox players experiencing HB's failings. Even on PC I've noticed lately that the follow cam goes into slow motion as the balls lands. Yesterday I played the CC rounds, game took an age to load and the tempo was horrendous. I went out and back into the game and played a local match (NFL Stableford) and everything was fine. Why should it differ? Is there a problem with the bigger Societies? We have Greg's tempo issues, Frans and his PS4 buddies suffering awful lag, even in The Brew Crew we have people at Pro level really struggling where they were fine before. One has given up entirely. The red fast nerf killed the game for a lot of casual players, I understand it was needed but to me personally the nerf was a little on the severe side. I would ditch Master level entirely but for this and one other Society. I missed the fun here so signed back up for the grind. I would never had bothered just to play in CC. And I can't say I'm enjoying the actual playing, never quite sure what HB's tempo gods will give me. There is something afoot nowadays and I'm far too technically challenged to put my finger on it. Hopefully everyone can work through their issues. We're on our way to Qatar '22!

Agreed on all your points Ben. I hope Jude Bellingham can be the box to box creative midfielder which we were missing in this tournament.
As for Pixel Golf it’s a head scratcher that I hope will get better, to be fair my swing on the PS4 has been pretty good until this week, so I’m hoping it’s a short term thing.
On the positive side the courses people are creating are getting better and better, it’s a real pleasure to play them.

You think you guys have problems... looks like we might be stuck with Louis van Gaal again leading up to Qatar and, as a result, we probably won't even go to Qatar...

When I play Plat or TST, I almost never experience lag but in CC I get a lot of it. Personally, I think the game itself is absolutely fine right now (with distance control on shorter irons being the one possible exception); good shots are rewarded and not so good ones are punished. It's a shame there's people looking for loopholes all the time but I guess that's what happens with any game. Main problem really is the stability of the online environment in which the game is played if you compete in bigger societies. So smaller societies would solve most of that but obviously that would be a lot of work for TGCTOURS, which I understand is not really an option.

We looked a bit devoid of a spark in the 2nd half. The game? Some of my struggles are down to me, I understand that, but when I see very good players struggle I do wonder. The National Treasure courses have been an absolute delight. The Beer League course I thought was excellent and I played a course in the NFL Stableford yesterday from the same competition that I thought was fantastic, Andongo Village (Angola). I still fair enjoy a hack around at Pro, I get that it's not for some, but I still enjoy a relaxing round where the game doesn't bite quite so hard!

Maybe a return to the old TGC19 split of CC would help where you have two Societies covering CC with the higher half having perhaps a more difficult course/conditions.

Rd 3 -8 Not sure if this week is going to be enough to take out Barcelona. Another round which I struggled with tempo and then really struggled with lag on the back nine (had neither problem warming up in the Promo event - played on great course by the way). The Sweet FA Cup is now 2-1 so baring a catastrophe it should be all over. The Carlisle manager has been a long time admirer of Ajax, even dressing like the Ajax manager in Rd3 each week, but we’ve been lucky and caught Ajax on a very very uncommon bad week.

Personal Round Up
Friends, Rivals, Pixel Golfers, lend me your ears.
When the new game dropped I was so uncomfortable with the new Master level that I nearly didn't even do qualifying.
Twenty something over on that stupid second course still got me into CC-D. I stuck with it and worked my way into CC-B then something happened around the second promo event.
Two cuts made in five months, a total of twenty three demo marks accumulated but mostly wiped off just as I should have been demoted, due to website glitches - but I stuck with it.
Red fast nerf arrived. It didn't impact me too badly and I started making a few cuts - so I stuck with it.
Red slow nerf along with the massacre of partial shots making anything off tempo catastrophic for the lesser player - I stuck with it and adapted strategy, equipment and expectations.
Useless Divot Derby with the accompanying server load arrived - I stuck with it.
A succession of courses offered up for CC which were overly penal and essentially untried by CC level players using CC settings - I quit the Rangers but I stuck with it.
The last two weeks I have suffered catastrophic opening rounds which were littered with off tempo shots disappearing into hideous or wet places. This week I had a drive which crossed the water hazard twice yet only offered me three off the tee on the longest par-5. It would be a fair retort to suggest that I played on a Sunday last week so I got what I deserved but this week it was like 4.30 in the afternoon on a Monday, hardly TGCT prime time. Even so what really stuck the final dagger through my heart was that literally two minutes before I started Round One I completed a local round in identical conditions at -10 as was disappointed it hadn't been -13. The wind was slightly higher and the greens a smidge faster but otherwise identical and the tempo was as good as I have experienced since pro level in the old game.
I do not accept that, in the space of two minutes, I turn from a competitive upper CC player into a CC-L hacker. There is some disconnect between my experience in online societies and that of a local match. I enjoy what Pixel Golf Football has grown into but this most recent punch in the nuts is just one too far for me. In the absence of any real evidence to the contrary I say et tu HB?.

I get absolutely every word of that and totally understand where you are coming from Greg. And I believe you, and many others including myself, are definitely suffering from that disconnect between large Societies and Local Match. Why this has happened I have no idea. Someone with more technical knowledge may be able to suggest. As someone who is well known for not sticking with it, and therefore hardly one to be handing out advice, I urge you to have a few days to collect your thoughts, and set out on Round 2 and see where it takes you. Alternatively you can tell me where to stick my advice. I won't be offended. If this really is the end of you and HB I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your efforts with Pixel Golf Football. I know first hand how many hours are put in behind the scenes to make something like this work so well. It's been one of two things (the other being NFL Stableford) that , for me, is worth the effort to play at a level I'm totally uncomfortable with.

As I said before SkyBlueBen, I will run this competition until the end of the season, which is three weeks of the regular season and a play-off, and reassess the situation then. I will endeavour to keep the same levels of humour and timeliness to my Admin, as those things do bring me some pleasure. East Fife will not take the field again this season as I am simply not prepared to put myself through the experience of the last couple of weeks. Grinding to try and get back to numbers under par gives me little satisfaction. I have absolutely no idea what changes have occurred on the servers/in the game mechanics/to my internet connection and frankly am past caring. There are plenty of distractions for me away from Pixel Golf in terms of playing the game for real (one short of my best ever round on Sunday) and adapting to redundancy next week. After my Covid experience I promised myself that I would only try to choose things that made me happy and avoid things that I was doing just because I had to. Playing on the Challenge Circuit has, unfortunately, become one of the latter things.

But yep, spot on, we should all be doing the things in life that we enjoy. Nice weather for golf though them greens and fairways will be a bit on the firm side!

2nd Round 66 (-4)
Both teams are back to sizing each other up after the events of the first 20-odd minutes. Celtic are still proving to be a threat at the Theatre of Dreams with chances falling to Forrest and McGregor. Although they did seem to look tired in the last 10 minutes which provided United with a chance to snatch a goal just before half time, will one of the Red Devils be able to cash in on the opportunity?
Sorry to hear about your struggles Greg but totally understand if you're not enjoying it. For me this is the best society I've played in because of the individual aspect and the football flavour that everyone adds to it. But as we've all learnt from the past year or so it's best to fill your time with things you enjoy as our own wellbeing is paramount.

Herne Bay didn't start to well with +2 for Rd 1, but picked up towards the end of the first half -1 rd 2 to make the Cut in K for the fourteenth time in a row, or something like that. The question is, is it enough to score against Tranmere
