Week Five Round Up

Premier Division

The top of the table clash showed that cassinochips does have a weakness - other Italian-American franchises. FutureBuckeye11 guided Juventus to a 3-1 win over Cassino Calcio and into top spot. The surging Aston Villa side under avjpfc took advantage of Jesse's slip to leapfrog him into second place, courtesy of a 3-1 win over Celtic. This was Celtic Wolf 's first loss as he brings to big time back to Celtic Park. fransslabak and his Ajax outfit took The Mayor and his Pirates to the cleaners. The 4-0 win was enough to jump above Orlando into fourth and Art Vandelay was seen scouring Amazon for 'The Big Book of Football Coaching Strategies'.

The marvelously inconsistent jason755 had one of his good weeks and was able to nudge Man United past newly promoted Bristol City. Giraffe72 will take heart from being only one of a handful of XBoxers not throwing their consoles into the bin and only being one win from potentially easing relegation worries. Slumbering giants Diddeleng and Liverpool played out a low-key encounter with the Luxembourgers coming out on top. up mup kupen nup edges closer to safety with his first win of the season whilst crushtastic proves how strong his back is by propping up the other nine teams.

Championship

Amidst another spin on the managerial merry-go-round, returning xboxjonnyuk brought Spurs back to be just edged out by an unfamiliar looking Carlisle side who should be back to full strength next week. That win kept Riotous at the head of affairs. East Fife and Burton shared the spoils and in doing so lost ground on the Cumbrians. sid snott was the beneficiary of the Midlands Meltdown as Coventry abandoned the Tour and his 4-0 win catapulted Herne Bay into fourth. In truth his performance last week would have probably beaten any opponent and there is whispered talk of promotion in Kent and the league have sent SWAT surge dope testing units to keep an eye on events there.

statelyowl endured a rollercoaster week playing very, very well and very, very badly as Tombanator had one of his better weeks and Hyvinkään Palloseura ran out easy 4-0 winners in Canterbury. The stirrings of life in Barcelona continued. mbuenger was able to avoid defeat on the Wirral, sharing the points with Tranmere. When asked about Tranmere's rise to sixth in the table by our correspondent, tight-lipped Rovers boss, thetaffman , declined to comment muttering something about not grassing to the bizzies and snitches getting stitches. Anyway it is still tightly bunched outside the top three and still plenty to play for in the last four weeks.

Sweet FA Cup

The preliminary round to produce 16 teams for the start of the main competition saw easy wins for Herne Bay and Tottenham and their progression into the last-16. According to folk-poets Chas and Dave, Spurs win the Cup when the year ends in One, so the big boys had better beware. Thanks to Tomi's good week I find myself passing round the canapes and directing folk to the toilets at this party.

Week Six Preview

The Premier Division sees new leaders Juve travel to Glasgow (it doesn't get any easier Pat) whilst Cassino roll the dice in Manchester in an attempt to make up ground on the leaders. Villa host the Mayoral train whilst travel restrictions my limit the amount of petty crime in Amsterdam when Liverpool visit. Diddeleng look to keep the ball rolling at home to Bristol City who are also looking for a win.

East Fife welcome Spurs to New Bayview whilst the Brewers at home again to Tranmere this time. Hyvinkään Palloseura host the rested Carlisle and it could be a cracker with no advantage in terms of score adjustment. Herne Bay are in Barcelona and Canterbury at home to the league administered Coventry.

The Magic of the Cup beckons as the competition kicks off in earnest with all the big boys in the draw. The random draw threw up some intriguing ties. The Championship is certain of at least one quarter-finalist as Spurs host Herne Bay. There a chances of an upset when Ajax travel to Burton, Celtic host Hyvinkään Palloseura and Barcelona are in Bristol. Carlisle have a chance to test themselves against Aston Villa who they met in a pre-season friendly. Cassino and Man United will be sick of the sight of each other as they play twice in a week and the Pirates will be looking to raid an out-of-sorts Liverpool side. Tie of the Round has to be the rampant Juventus' visit to fellow platinum player F91 Diddeleng on a level playing surface in Luxembourg.

For those who missed it last week, just play the four rounds in CC and they count in both fixtures. It is Penn Hills this week, a Lidar sculpted track and I predict a lot of people going low there.

I knew I would speak to soon, I actually abandoned a practice round, fed up with trying to reach 600 yard holes into 14mph winds and slick greens awaiting.

Round One

What an abortion. 78 (+6)

I played several rounds last week (mostly on default conditions) and found this course to be a very decent and eminently playable track. Sure there were places to trip you up and these were balanced with some scoring opportunities. This first round was the worst experience of poor conditions and lag that I have seen in many a moon. I was getting stutter when playing shots and lots and lots of stutter from the follow cam. Added to high winds and 187 greens I feel this is just a slap in the face to the 650 or so folk who tee it up in the Challenge Circuit each week. This cannot have been been played in these conditions by CC level players using our settings, prior to being scheduled.

I may have made a mistake by playing on a Sunday morning but that was unacceptable.

Erik ten Hag was all excited about the comments by the scheduler, saying that this would be an easy pitch...
IT WASN'T... at least, not in the first twenty minutes.
There was a nasty wind and the pitch was silly slippery.
However, the Ajax players recovered well from some early mistakes and missed chances and as the half progressed they started playing fluently. Only to then miss a number of easy chances towards the end of the first 45 minutes, and those misses could come back to haunt them. Overall, proper start to both matches though...

Orlando, looking quite dapper after their trip to the cleaners courtesy of Juve, limped into Villa Park for the unenviable task of taking on a red hot Villains squad.  The Pirates attach has been so inept that they could not score a goal if the ball started inside the netting.  

A conservative beginning left the door wide open for the Aston offense to have a go (rd 1 -4).  The rest of the half went better, too soon to say if it will be enough to check to hosts (round 2 -9).  

Time for Fanta and Simba crisps.

The previous two matches against Man U have been absolute nail-biters, and I expect this iteration to be much the same.

Maybe a bit sluggish after the All-Italian dogfight last week, it took the Azzurri a bit to shake things out. The second 22 saw a marked improvement in finishing around the goal. History says this will likely be 1-1 going into the locker rooms.

The start of the second half saw a return to the issues that plagued Cassino Calcio in last week's second half and the first 22 this week. Just an inability to put foot on ball in the box.

Barcelona - Herne Bay

Barcelona return home to the Camp Nou for the first time in 4 weeks and were excited to come out and put on a show for the fans. Despite a poor practice session (+7) Koeman decided to plow ahead with starting the match against The Bay. This worked out incredibly well for Koeman as Barca started out at a breakneck pace (5 birdies in 6 holes). A couple of poorly timed passes limited the scoring in the opening quarter of the game but Koeman was excited about the players’ effort. Learning from last week’s mistake, Koeman continued to press on skipping over the usual halftime break into the second half. The strategy worked out for the most part until the final 22 minutes of the match. Not having a break seemed to catch up to the players and tired legs prevailed leaving Herne Bay with an excellent opportunity to close the match

1st Round 74 (+2)

Celtic have met Juventus 4 times in the last 20 years with the Italians having the lion's share of the victories.


The match started off quite evenly with both teams having 2 attempts at goal within the first 10 minutes. But shortly after that an defensive mix up let Dybala through who forced Barkas to pull off a fingertip save. That fright led to Celtic being more cagey and invited to visitors to attack, can they make their possession in attack count?

Celtic will be hoping to replicate the performance of the team in 2001.

Got the lads out early for this match hoping to catch Orlando out, only to find they're already there, warmed up and ready to go.

The Spurs manager had his beard trimmed and his team talk was heard better this time and first 20 mins into this tight affair finishes with a round 1 -4.
I’m sure East Fife will come out strong and take no prisoners in this game!
