Round 1 and Round 2 done and I can't get my approach shots anywhere near the hole lately. Round 2 was better but round 1 was pretty much alternating between slow and fasts every shot. I'm also in a real funk with par 5s. Making mostly bogeys and pars - finally birdied the last one of round 2 for my first par 5 birdie of the week. They're easy at this course too, so I just suck. R1: +3 R2: -5 sandsaver01

Way to go!

Hey TimB, one helpful thing I learned recently, if you are bothered to recalibrate: when using the calibration, don't try to swing for perfects. Instead, use very fasts/slows to move the swing the way you want it. So for example, if you're finding yourself hitting mostly grey fasts and red fasts, go to calibrate, then hit 6 very fasts and 4 very slows (see the 6:4 fast to slow ratio?). This will move your swing calibration a bit to where your faster swing is closer to a perfect. Now test it out, if you still find you're leaning towards fast, go back in to the calibration, this time hit 7 very fasts and 3 very slows. Now go back and test it out. You can go all the way to 10 very fasts, which is the furthest the calibration will go in that direction. If it goes too far, then you can go back into the calibration and hit a few more very slows (6 to 4) to move it back the other way. It's incredible how there are no explanations for this, but this is essentially how calibration works. It just looks at your swing outcomes and compares the fasts to the slows... if you have more fasts, it moves your calibration "right" (ie something that would've been registering as a grey fast shifts slightly right now to perfect). It could help and bring some fun back into this game for you! I'm calibrated for 5x5. (been following the thread where you guys talk about it). May try a 7x3 later this morning when I play my 10 minutes of golf before the rage quit. In the past I had tried all sorts of calibrations (before the change) and found 10 red very fasts made the actual swing feel to quick for me. Felt like I needed to be on crack to keep up with the tempo. So hoping a 7x3 doesn't make it a crack swing.

Bill just rambling. Sorry for not being around much lately. I have been helping my wife around more than usual. She is having knee replacement surgery next week but is also bothered by sciatica so her getting from point a to point b is really painful for her at the moment. I, too am struggling with the game and the red fasts. Par is a good score for me now. I always look at my distance from the pin stats after a round and it ALWAYS shows 32-39'. Not very many birdie opps in that stat. I played a practice round with Pesky Peanut's ghost and his distance from the pin was 13'. There lies the difference in someone shooting -15 and me shooting around even par. Another way to 'skin the cat'. I played a practice round that started with 90% red fasts on the first 5 holes so I decided to play for it and clubbed up for it. (for instance if I was 135 from the pin, I would use the 150 club. I made the turn at +1 but shot a -6 on the back 9 that included a 53' eagle putt at 10. Is this the answer, of course not, but for one round, it worked. I will go back to the practice tee and continue to figure it out. Yes, I have done the calibration 5-5, 6-4, 7-3 and it makes no difference for me. Ms Butt is tearing her hair out, trying to watch me play. And me!

sandsaver01RD1 -14 RD2 -6 Played great 1st round. Seem to enjoy the courses with less slopes and flatter greens. Round 2 had a few bad tempos and just couldn't seem to get it inside 20 foot on approaches. Who knows what RD3 will bring.

With two weeks left in the regular season, I am sure most are not ready for me to ask this question but here goes anyway. This season was torpedoed by the swing change and maybe our attempt to make two divisions. This league is about competition and getting to know each other a little more. Most of the time, it accomplishes that goal. The captains work hard to try to make the league as balanced as possible. I, along with some of you are struggling big time. A few have 'figured it out' and are playing as well as always. sid snott Paul has even played a little better since the swing change. With the fact that time is needed to fill the roster for next season, the admin needs to know if you plan on playing another season or not. This will give us time to find replacements for those not returning. I hope you all return, but will understand if you don't.

I might be on the struggling side at this time, not being competitive at all. However, I have accepted the struggle as my new norm and competitiveness now comes second. Count me in for another season.
