Welcome to week 27 and the Scottsdale Desert Classic from beautiful Augusta Georgia? This week we play the Dream Team contest course Knob's Creek (Tour) by 15eicheltower9Probably somewhat of a challenge this week... although I didn't give you the sadistic North wind like I could have. Probably the start of a tough 3 week stretch with this week, next week at Wincoma and then the CC masters at Fulton County

Anyone else having problems with this course overloading their console? I'm on an old school PS4, and this course is a jittery mess for me.

Played a few practice rounds and had no problems with my xbox. Nice course. Looks tame until you tee off. A nice challenge for all skill sets imho. Looking forward to teeing off for real.

Hey guys, posting this weeks' notes, I played 2 rounds and the course was a lot of fun and had me thinking.
KNOB’S CREEK --Par 73, 7068 yards. Handicap: 73.1
Architect: Justin Kenyon:
Knob's Creek is my entry for Team Petty in the 2020 Dream Team Design Competition.
The course was inspired by Augusta National. My take is more of a "what would it feel like on day one?". A few hole designs and green sites may be recognizable. There's some other nods to Augusta sprinkled throughout as well as a few Mackenzie-esque decisions I made. My main goal was to use width and angles to bring as many different options into play as I could. ---- There are plenty of trees here at Knob’s Creek but the course has a more wide open feel than last week. The strategies use the width, angles, slopes and green transitions allow us more than enough options to use to give us an advantage depending on the wind. Neighboring holes are close by and can be used if desired. I had a bit of stutter on PS4 on the 3rd hole green and 6th hole green but it was manageable and the rest of the round was fine. At least a 3rd of the greens sit right next to water so being careful with approaches and using the wide fairways for the right angle in is probably the way to go. Poor approaches will be punished more severely. The greens are small but only one has two tiers so lag putts won't be too tough if we're just aiming toward the middle of each putting surface. No OB as far as I can see so using other hole's fairways will be okay.
1) 4-451. Knob’s Creek’s creek runs through a few holes at the beginning and ending of the round. It doesn’t have the intimidation factor like a big pond or lake so it’s easy to forget its just as penal. Both drive and 2nd shot will be impacted on this dogleg right even if we borrow the fairway from another hole to the right. The green is narrow; small overall, and closer to the creek than it appears.
2) 5-533. The second also has other play alongside the creek, and as a par-5, there are more approach shots that may wind up wet if going for the narrow green sitting next to the water. Even if laying up, the approach shot is intimidating on this one. Not an easy eagle, but perhaps birdie is doable.
3) 4-399. A big fairway bunker just sprawls out in the middle of the fairway at the 300 yard mark but laying up still leaves just a wedge approach in. A birdie chance.
4)4-369. Another hole where a birdie can be had even by playing it safe with a 3-wood off the tee. The green is larger but wraps around a fronting bunker that can be annoying. The greens have not bee too tough. We should be under par after these first holes if we want to compete.
5) 3-178. #1 handicap Luckily we had some time to get used to smaller greens so by the time we handle these 2 straight par-3s, we should be able to hang on to the short grass. Unfortunately, this is the 3rd green that has to sit right next to the creek. It’s wise to aim towards the green’s center so the slope can take it to any pin locations near the water.
6) 3-148. Shooting over the mini-waterfall uphill to a green that we can run the ball up to, this is a relatively easy hole. With any stronger winds, we can hit a low liner since the greenside bunkers don’t interfere.
7) 5-517. Hope we’re used to the big bunkers by now cause the 2 in the fairway here are big and deep and likely will remove eagle as a result. Keep right since the fairway camber leads us to the bunker left. The 2-tiered green is the first that can be serious trouble. Still, a good chance for birdie.
8) 4-483. #3 handicap Not as tough as it appears, most drives will clear the fairway bunkers unless we’re faced with a headwind. The downhill nature of this hole that veers left will leave a decent iron approach.
9) 4-409. I hope we were good at multiple choice questions on school test cause this one may not have one answer. This may be choice D – the one where 2 of the choices are correct. Water left, 2 bunkers center and rough to the right – avenues for a drive are between them all. Going left leaves the shortest approach. The green is right next to the water left – so close that even a chip or play from the bunker right can leave us wet.
10) 3-128. A horseshoe green around a fronting bunker may be awkward, but it’s a wedge off the tee and good chance of birdie depending on the pin placement.
11) 5-544. Headed towards the “knob’s creek” area – two greens sitting next to each other with the creek in between, the 11th hole winds left with the creek so each shot is challenged. Keep right off the tee as the fairway camber could bounce the ball into the drink. With the wind up, we can keep the trajectory low when heading for the green since it receives run-up shots well.
12) 4-468. #2 handicap A grip it and rip it hole, this plays easier than the yardage on paper suggests. Driver and wedge should be fine unless dealing with a headwind.
13-4-485. A much tougher par-4, keep it right on the fairway to leave an improved angle to a tough and narrow green that slopes towards the deep low bunker left. Hit the center of the green and let it ride to left pins.
14-4-298. A fun hole, there’s not too much punishment around so be aggressive and go for eagle.
15-3-168. This par-3 has relatively roomy green that isn’t overly tough except for some lag putts.
16-5-570. It’s tough to miss this fairway that has the creek run along side it. But keeping right gives us the best shot at eagle. The approach has to clear Knob’s Creek running across in front of the green so a draw in would be the safe bet.
17-5-527. A similar strategy applies here – stick the ball on the right side of the fairway for the best angle in. A possible eagle chance, this final stretch like the opening stretch is easier than the middle of the course.
18-4-393. A tougher hole despite the yardage just cause it’s another green that’s friendly with the water and sits right near it. You can use the fairway on the right to avoid the creek, launch it over the winding creek at the 300-mark or hit it short of the creek. Hitting it short will not be penalizing since there are no greenside bunkers.
That winding Knob's Creek can be nasty but there are birdies to be had here especially early and late in the round. Good luck!

Anyone else having problems with this course overloading their console? I'm on an old school PS4, and this course is a jittery mess for me. Yes. The first round was a complete mess. I even turned the PS4 graphic setting back to 30hz hoping it would make a difference. It did not. 2nd round was a little better so wonder if it had something to do with the windy conditions. I will most likely miss my first tgc cut due to this.

Shot -13 on the practice round before it, even after 8 on first round proper. Will come back to complete when I’ve cooled off a bit 😂

Anyone else having problems with this course overloading their console? I'm on an old school PS4, and this course is a jittery mess for me. Yep. But that's not the entire reason for my crappy first round as my tempo wasn't too bad. Couldn't get used to the greens, had about half a dozen birdie putts that missed by about an inch or less or pulled up just short. No luck at all. Ended up -2, so unless I can pull a -14 or whatever out of my arse in the second I'll probably miss the cut again. CCA here

Struggled in the wind in Rounds 1 and 4 but managed a decent middle two.

Just played R1. Very nice course, but don't be deceived by those big open fairways!
I couldn't putt on 5 and 13, tripled and doubled. Otherwise, did -1 on the rest of the course!

-10 in the second round, wonder if -12 will be enough to make the CCA cut this week...

Still managed a -1, which is inside the current cut line for CC-J, but just makes the event not fun to play. Next few courses I've had no problems in practice rounds. Seems like it's gotten worse since they added Divot Derby.
