Will there be open qualifying for the Firehorn Tourney? Or is that just the US Open?
I thought I read on here somewhere that there will be a qualifier.

It's really a shame, but also completely understandable. I wanted to get on the Plat tour almost entirely for this tournament, on this golf course. It certainly won't be the same, at least for me. The rednecks down at A****** National are a notoriously litigious bunch. This is a very smart move. Thanks to theclv24 and Royce for the fantastic versions they have created. They have made this game infinitely more enjoyable.

For point in case see: Back in the day I used to enjoy CustomPlay designer, especially because you could make your own textures and objects in 3DS Max and import them into the object library. Needless to say this legal action was the end of that!

I think if someone had the balls to challenge it, they would win under fair play. they have to actually prove damages or loss of income from the copy of the course. its not like any of us are saying "Well, i can play Augusta on PGA2k21 so no point in going there to play it for real" You don't seem to understand the law at all. "intellectual property rights" are very clear chance of winning is ZERO. They do not have to prove damages they just need to prove that someone is using their "property rights" without permission. There's a reason 2k complies with their request or that over other clubs (Pebble Beach, Shinnecock, etc) that don't want their courses used. It's because they will get sued and they will lose. The precedent has been set long ago on rights.

The precedent has been set long ago on rights. In addition, if its shown that you have only selectively enforced intellectual property rights in the past, you can lose that right in the future. So Augusta and other brands must defend against everything, small and large, to protect their IP. I work in brand marketing and this how it has been explained to me by lawyers who specialize in these types of cases.

I wonder if you could make a list of golf clubs and colour their names.... list starts with red names. The big boys. The big posh mega famous clubs who don’t want their likeness, name, imagery used in a computer golf game. The ones with legal resources and media departments... then, when you get past them (the ones where grass coloured jackets are used as tournament trophies, or their name includes the collective name for small stones found on a stretch of sand at an ocean).... you get to the yellow names. The yellow names are posh golf clubs who have an inferiority complex. They would love nothing more than to sue the ass off pesky computer golf course designers, but don’t have the resources of, nor are they as worldwide famous as, the big boys. They are in a strata below the courses who have patrons instead of fans, jackets instead of big trophies, or have the name of one of Fred Flintstone’s kids in their name.
Then, you get to the biggest list. Courses who are in grey. They couldn’t care less if their ‘imagery’ is used. Some of them, at the top of the grey list, bordering on yellow, might be a bit sniffy about it, but can’t be arsed doing anything about it. They know, deep down, they are, and always will be, a ‘grey name’ club. They would love to be a ‘yellow’, they will never be a ‘red’, and it hurts. Kills them every day that no-one thinks of them as anything other than a common or garden grey name club.
Thirdly, you get to another, big list of clubs. The ‘green name’ clubs. Some are quite posh, quite nice. Most are just golf clubs. These ‘green names’ are delighted to see their imagery used. Any committee member of these clubs, on learning someone has spent upwards of fifty hours creating a computer game version of their club, rather than sue the ass off someone, runs around their bedroom in their underpants, shouting ‘Yassss.... we made it. We made it boys! We’re in the game...’
Finally. There’s the last strata of clubs.... Barshaw Park Public Golf Course. Paisley, Scotland. Littlehill, Bishopbriggs, Scotland. Palacerigg, Cumbernauld, Scotland... if anyone involved in running these clubs learned that someone had spent upwards of fifty hours re-creating their course for a computer game.... they wouldn’t sue the person. They’d call emergency services, seeking urgent medical help for the poor soul.
In my mind, I’m sure this is how it works.

TGC Tours is not going to use any of the Augusta versions out there going forward. This includes all CLV versions and Royce versions of the course. We are planning to use CLV's course he is currently designing as our new "Masters Tournament" course. If you'd like to follow the progress you can keep up with this thread. What a bunch of pompous asses those people are. It just an effing golf course for christ sakes. And being force to tip toe, walk on eggshells around designing a damn replica is ridiculous. Let us have our fun playing computer courses. Hell most of us can’t even go and watch the actual tournament unless you know someone or pay 100x the value with a 3rd party. They can’t let us play computer courses unless their name is stamped all over it and millions go into their coffers. I wish somebody would buy a plot of land in Georgia and reproduce the same exact course settings and see what those arrogant people do then. Masters streams for free

I was thinking this is to include the upcoming tournament in April but it still is showing as "A course with no name". Doyley are we keeping it for this last April or will it be a different venue?

It will be the new course which CLV is finishing currently - but since it's not in the database yet, it can't be named in the schedule!

Thank you for the response! It had been my goal to get up to Plat in time for the Masters so it's quite sad to see it go. Was wishful thinking but thought there was an off chance we got one more go at it. Totally understand the decision and really feel for you guys being in the position you are. Such a shame it got to this point. I feel like I shouldn't even name the course when typing in the forum... thats the craziest part. theclv24 is a beast and and if anyone knows the intricacies of the course and the best way to reimagine it in a legal friendly way, its him. Really looking forward to what comes from this.

We should call this event ‘The Munsters’ going forward. A play on words. The Munsters is an American sitcom depicting the home life of a family of benign monsters.
