Good luck to all who finished their courses in time, you all put out some amazing looking courses! I was considering publishing my unfinished course as a meme but decided not to waste anyone's time. Also noticed that I must have done something bad enough that I didn't even make the non-finisher's list.

Just finished playing through a bunch of these, couldn't get my course finished (again...) due to some real world sh%$ like going on a 5 week trip around Europe. Sad to not finish as I thought my course was pretty decent. Gonna finish it up as soon as possible then release it to the world. good luck

I'll make it easy on you, Matt. Group 5 goes:
1. Aviara National Golf Club
2. Sandy Boots
3. Rye Valley CC

Is it because of all the plays I got in the first hour?

Group 5 might actually be the hardest for me to predict who gets out

Is it because of all the plays I got in the first hour? Has nothing to do with the scores I shot on each.

Looking at the groups there are those who one would believe should make it through.
The key is which designers chose the right elements to have judged and to have nailed the implementation of them.
If this is just a straight, "create a course, judge course" contest then the usual suspects would likely rise to the top 4.
The elements create a bigger issue and one could see some surprises, depending on how the judges interpret each courses showing forth those areas the best.
Some of the designers announced the elements they wanted judged, but I'm not sure everyone did.
Will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Ngl.....I’ve started to play more courses after publishing (maybe like 20, roughly), and damn I would say 18 or 19 are all phenomenal, thoroughly enjoyable and had a blast playing. My group included. Judges are gonna have a really tough time and I think that’s awesome! I have no expectations, and making it out would exceed them, still very happy with myself for completing on time and have a project I’m content with but sheeeeeeeeeeeeesh judges are gonna have difficulty being subjective over the nitty gritty, because there are more well-deserving courses to make it out of groups than will as per the contest setup.

I agree with you completely and I’m just happy that I also got a fully published course into the contest. It was a great opportunity to test out some new things and try some risky things. I have no illusions of moving on, but I’m happy for all the community and the Continued amazing courses being created..

I've seen the vast majority of published that also submitted to the TGC Database get a Tour Worthy nod from the reviewers which I believe speaks to the overall quality of the course. The judges won't have an easy time picking out group winners or overall winners which is always what you want. And virtualgolfer65 I think everyone had to say what their four restrictions were when they sent in the form to MattF. We may not know them as the general public but I think all the judges will have them.

The judges definitely know what the main elements were and those 4 elements will play a bigger impact on the judging but the course as a whole still matters. I mean if someone nailed the 4 elements and the rest of the course was boring or ordinary then you will possibly score lower than someone who made a good all round course but not as good on the 4 elements as the other course. Judging would be weighted towards those 4 elements but the overall playability and technical ability etc still comes in to play too. Correct me if I am wrong mattf27

Correct me if I am wrong mattf27 The course as a whole will definitely have a greater weight on judging than the required elements. CC appropriate difficulty and the required elements make up a portion of what we're looking at, but it's not weighted higher than the overall quality of the course. Plus, I think it'll be pretty rare to see a course that hits everything else out of the park but whiffs on the elements. If you can pull off one, it's not a big step to pull off both.

To be honest - I definitely didn't think much of the requirements until after I was already done, and spent like 15 minutes deciding which 4 suited the course well.
I am sure that every good course in this contest would be in a similar boat. I think there were 7 or 8 that fit my course after all was said and done.
In my experience, the 4 requirements are just a great way to try to show some cool specific stuff about your course, without an explanation.

I think it's even more than that, a good course would easily have 4 of these requirements by default
