Event 13 - 2015 SENIOR U.S. OPEN - at Black Salt Valley - Round 3
As if the course wasn't difficult enough, there were high winds today and, coupled with glass-like rolling greens, this was probably the toughest round of the season so far. Jared Kingsley (84), Ian McKinley (81) and Bob Fletcher (80) all succumbed to the brutal conditions, rendering their final rounds tomorrow completely meaningless. Charlie Roberts, however, showed how to combat the wind and the greens on his way to a level par 72. Charlie even grabbed an eagle on the 4th, but a couple of bogeys on the back nine denied him a sub-par round. To his great credit, Randy Grant also carded a 72 but will still have his work cut out to achieve a top 10 finishing place and some Charles Schwab Cup points. And after today most players will be glad to be leaving Black Salt Valley...

Event 13 - 2015 SENIOR U.S. OPEN - at Black Salt Valley - FINAL ROUND
One last test for our battered and bruised team of golfers and it would be all over. Thankfully the wind had died down a little but the greens were still dangerously quick. Jared Kingsley's heart just wasn't in it today I suspect and an 82 was the result. The same went for Ian McKinley who carded a 79, while Charlie Roberts (75), Les Souter (74) and Bob Fletcher (73) all failed to break par. Randy Grant was the best guest finisher, shooting a 76 today to conclude a tough week in a share of 50th place. Pro Jeff Maggert claimed a hard-earned title by firing his second 65 of the tourney, banking a cool half-a-million dollars for his efforts!! I'm off to call my shrink...

Charles Schwab Cup standings after 13 events
Les Souter has been removed from the top of the table!! The new leader is Colin Montgomerie, thanks to his good showing at Black Salt Valley, while the winner, Jeff Maggert, jumps up to second spot, relegating Les to 3rd. The race is heating up and it's really still wide open!!

Event 14 - 2015 ENCOMPASS CHAMPIONSHIP - at Fisheye Bay - Round 1
It was a very still day with the only drawback being some tricky pin placements. Ian McKinley bravely took part after another bout of health treatment and did well to post a 71. Bob Fletcher looked like making a good start but making a complete hash of the 18th saw him card a triple, moving his round score up to 70. Charlie Roberts opened with a solid enough 69, Les Souter looked in good shape during his fine 67, while Jared Kingsley took an instant liking to Fisheye Bay as he plotted his way around in 66 strokes. However, the performance of the day came from Randy Grant who hit a sizzling 61 to lead by four at the day's end. Randy actually bogeyed the very first hole, but an amazing seven birdies on the back nine completed a great recovery!

Event 14 - 2015 ENCOMPASS CHAMPIONSHIP - at Fisheye Bay - Round 2
A slight breeze and firmer, faster greens were on the menu today. After seven holes, including an eagle on #2, it promised to be a memorable day for Bob Fletcher as he surged to 5 under par, and it did turn out to be memorable - for all the wrong reasons. From the 8th hole onwards his game inexplicably collapsed and he finished with a 73. A couple of shanks and tempo problems thwarted Jared Kingsley's advance and a level par 72 was all he could produce. Charlie Roberts improved on his opening round by carding a 68 which included an eagle on #2 and a solitary bogey on #15. Overnight leader Randy Grant was unable to repeat his incredible exploits of yesterday, only carding a 71 to slip back to 3rd. Today's heroics came from Les Souter whose fantastic 60 elevated him into top spot with a 3-shot lead. Could be more twists and turns before the tourney ends...

Event 14 - 2015 ENCOMPASS CHAMPIONSHIP - at Fisheye Bay - Round 3
There was hardly any wind but the greens were exceptionally quick for this round. Bob Fletcher saved his round by bagging four birdies on the last five holes, and the resulting 69 was his best effort so far this week. Jared Kingsley was a little inconsistent during his round of 70 but he could still take home some Charles Schwab Cup points - as could Ian McKinley after scores of 71 and two 68's, and also Charlie Roberts who had a super front nine, including an eagle on #2, but was knocked back by a double-bogey on #12 that restricted him to a 70. Randy Grant battled away for a 67 to edge into second place, but didn't gain on Les Souter, the leader, as he also fired a 67 thanks to a lot of good par saves on the back nine. Les has a 5-stroke advantage going into the final day, but can he hang on to taste victory once again?!

Event 14 - 2015 ENCOMPASS CHAMPIONSHIP - at Fisheye Bay - FINAL ROUND
Strong winds and rain left the greens slow for the climax of the tourney. A birdie-eagle finish on #17 and #18 helped Bob Fletcher score a 68, his best round of the week, but there is still a lot of room for improvement. Jared Kingsley left several putts short and those missed opportunities left him with an uneventful 71 and a week to forget. Charlie Roberts' second succesive 70 left him well outside the top 10, while Ian McKinley's fine 66, his best display of the event, saw him sneak into a tie for 9th and some much needed Charles Schwab Cup points to take away with him - and a superb ACE on #17 was the 'jewel in the crown'!! Randy Grant trailed Les Souter by five shots at the start of the day, and after 11 holes it looked like he was going to bridge that gap. But some putts either stopping just short or burning the edge of the cup saw him miss birdie chances and even card a couple of bogeys. Even so, Randy eventually shot a very good 66 to finish three strokes adrift of the victor. Les Souter hung on to the win when he fired a 68, his worst round of the week, but still good enough to add this title to his Major win at Hyperion Fields just over a month ago.

Event 15 - 2015 SENIOR OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP - at The Belfry Brabazon - Round 1
The opening day's conditions offered a golden opportunity to get off to a good start - a gentle breeze, straightforward pins and pristine greens promised a birdie-fest. Not for Bob Fletcher though, who carded five bogeys on the front and whose game was in shreds. Somehow he got it together on the back to come in with a 70 - nothing short of a miracle considering his early-round play. Randy Grant suffered even more than Bob, dropping shots on no less than six holes but, to his credit, still managing a surprising 72. Jared Kingsley could have scored better than his eventual 67, one sole bogey coming on the 11th to spoil his card, but he would be quite happy with his opening round - as would Les Souter whose fine 65 was devoid of any dropped shots. Ian McKinley made the perfect start by shooting a super 64 which included an Eagle 2 on the potentially dangerous 10th, but even Ian didn't avoid a red number on his card, bogeying the par 3 12th as he did. In spite of that, he leads at the end of Day 1 and is looking to be on top form...

Event 15 - 2015 SENIOR OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP - at The Belfry Brabazon - Round 2
Yesterday's breeze had weakened but the greens were quicker, so good scoring was still possible. Try as he might, Randy Grant just couldn't get below par and his second 72 left him in last place. Bob Fletcher's second 70 left him way down the leaderboard, while Charlie Roberts' second 68 saw him stay in touch with the leaders - just. Les Souter started his round well, but then hit another one of those par ruts that he seems to experience all too often. A 3-putt and consequent dropped shot on #18 summed up his round of 69, but Les is still there or thereabouts and can't be written off just yet. Jared Kingsley recorded the joint best round of the day, aided by a great eagle on #3, but he also bogeyed #18 as well as #8, so his 65 perhaps should have been even lower. As it is, Jared lies just two strokes behind Ian McKinley who held on to the lead by shooting a fine 66. It's still anyone's title at the halfway stage...

Event 16 - 2015 3M CHAMPIONSHIP - at TPC Twin Cities - Round 1
A very windy week is forecast but good play could still see players scoring well. It turned out to be a very good day for the guests, all of whom finished the day in the top 10. Jared Kingsley hit a bogey-free 68 but missed a few birdie chances which he might regret. Bob Fletcher and Ian McKinley posted a brace of 67's which theye were both very pleased about. Les Souter's imperious form continued and his fine 66 saw him positioned just two strokes behind the opening day leader, tour pro Tom Lehman who revisited days of old when he fired a super 64.

Event 16 - 2015 3M CHAMPIONSHIP - at TPC Twin Cities - Round 2
The gale force winds and fast, firm greens suggested a troublesome time out there today, but the majority of players handled the conditions really well. Ian McKinley struggled a little and his 73 saw him drop down the leaderboard. Bob Fletcher (69) and Jared Kingsley (68) are still in contention at halfway, while Les Souter's 68 maintained his second place status but saw him fall further behind the new leader, tour pro Kenny Perry, who had a day to remember after he fired an astonishing 61. Randy Grant could be in the leading bunch but is still out on the course, no doubt hoping to at least match his opening round 67. It's still all to play for...

Event 16 - 2015 3M CHAMPIONSHIP - at TPC Twin Cities - Round 3
The gales were replaced by a gentle breeze for today's play, so lower scores were very possible. After his disappointing second round Ian McKinley launched himself back into the mix by firing an awesome 62, the joint best round of the day. Ian is now tied 5th with Bob Fletcher who recorded his best score of the event, a 66, and these two are now five shots off the pace. Late starter Charlie Roberts had posted a 65 and a 70, so another 65 today came as no surprise and he will be a danger in the final round. Overnight leader Kenny Perry only carded a 68 and finished the day sharing second spot with Jared Kingsley. Jared's putter was on fire, and even a water-ball on #18 couldn't prevent him from registering a sizzling 62. The man on form at the moment, Les Souter, also took full advantage of the abating wind and his glowing 63 edged him into the lead by a single stroke. Looking at the weather forecast for the final round, anything could still happen...

Event 16 - 2015 3M CHAMPIONSHIP - at TPC Twin Cities - FINAL ROUND
The gales were back and the course was devoid of any moisture at all, meaning the greens were super-quick and scoring would not be easy. This event was a first for the guests I believe, all six finishing in the top 10 to earn Charles Schwab Cup points. Ian McKinley grabbed an eagle on #3 and had only one dropped shot, that coming on the par 3 8th, and his fighting 68 saw him claim 8th place. Charlie Roberts (69) and Bob Fletcher (67) ended up tied for 6th, while Randy Grant's commendable 66, the equal best round of the final day, pushed him up to 4th spot. Jared Kingsley was very upbeat after posting his third 68 of the event, even though bogeys on #8 and #9 were to prove costly. Overnight leader and favourite Les Souter couldn't quite find his recent excellent form and his 69 was only good enough to share 2nd place with Jared. The eventual winner was tour pro Kenny Perry whose 67 handed him the title by a single stroke, and who has to thank his second round 61 for setting up the win!!

Event 17 - 2015 SHAW CHARITY CLASSIC - at Grizzly Creek, Canada - Round 1
All but one of the guests were brought abruptly down to Earth today after they all did so well last week. The conditions seemed favourable but Grizzly Creek had other ideas. Les Souter, who came so close to another win last week, had a horrid time and swing timing issues resulted in a horrible 77. Charlie Roberts struggled in with a 74 while, amazingly, even though they both carded eagles on #9 and #18, Bob Fletcher and Ian McKinley also both recorded a level par round of 72!! The only guest to come out with any credit was Randy Grant who only had one bogey on his way to a reasonable 69, and that left him a full 7 strokes behind the opening day leader...

Event 17 - 2015 SHAW CHARITY CLASSIC - at Grizzly Creek, Canada - Round 2
Slightly more wind and slightly faster greens for this round, but Grizzly Creek didn't give up good scoring easily. Charlie Roberts still failed to fire on all cylinders and he even needed an eagle on #18 to post his second 74 of the event. Bob Fletcher didn't enjoy his round at all and also carded a 74, while Les Souter had a very promising front nine but followed it with an uncharacteristic nightmare of a back nine to eventually record an unsightly 80. Ian McKinley persisted through club selection issues and temperament problems to shoot his second level par 72. Randy Grant appeared to be heading for a decent bogey-free round until he got caught out on #16 and #17, but he was still pleased with a fine 67. Hans Kunok has been absent for a while but he's back this week and playing well. Hans followed yesterday's 67 with a solid 68 today, but still needs to up his game if he's going to threaten the leading group.
