Event 36 - 2000 OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP at St Andrews - Round 4
This promised to be the toughest round of the tournament, with high winds, ultra fast greens, and difficult pins all on the menu. Ian McKinley completed a miserable week with a surrendering 82 - enough said. Bob Fletcher wasn't unhappy with his level par 72, but that might change if he gets a bill from the hotel on the Road Hole for replacing broken roof tiles caused by his pushed drive. Amazingly, Bob went on to birdie the hole courtesy of sinking a 29-foot putt! Starting the day only two strokes off the lead, Les Souter began his round full of hope, but it wasn't to be and his eventual 73, his worst of the tourney, was only enough to earn third place. Les was leapfrogged by Randy Grant who finished in style with the best round of the day, a very good 66. How Randy must be regretting his second round performance! With a winning margin of four shots it was TIGER WOODS who notched up yet another Major title, his almost effortless closing 69 clinching victory.

Event 37 - 2000 SEI PENNSYLVANIA CLASSIC at Merion East - Round 1
The weather provided a sedate start to the event. Sluggish greens and hardly any wind gave a good opportunity for low scoring. Ian McKinley definitely had an 'off' day, hardly anything went right during his 73. Randy Grant's putting was the main reason for his disappointing 71, while Les Souter would have liked to have scored a lot lower than his 69. Maybe he was still suffering from a British Open hangover? As he had done at St Andrews, Bob Fletcher roared out of the starting blocks to lead the field at the end of the opening day. His excellent 64 suggested that he'd taken an instant liking to Merion, but will he maintain that great form or fade away like last week?!

Event 37 - 2000 SEI PENNSYLVANIA CLASSIC at Merion East - Round 2
It was slightly breezy with greens a little quicker, but nothing to worry the players. Randy Grant had a peculiar round, under par at the turn but then dropping no less than eight strokes on the back nine, the reason for which Randy stated was a serious loss of concentration. His 75 placed him right at the bottom of the leaderboard. Ian McKinley was more like his old self today and a 67 elevated him to mid-leaderboard territory. Bob Fletcher couldn't quite find 'the zone' like he did on the opening day but still managed a 66, while the story of the day was written by Les Souter, whose sensational 60 rocketed him into first place, just one stroke ahead of Bob. It could be a fascinating weekend...

Event 37 - 2000 SEI PENNSYLVANIA CLASSIC at Merion East - Round 3
Still just a light wind, but the greens had continued to dry out and were quite dry and fast. Randy Grant shot the best score of his week so far, a 70, but his putting left a lot to be desired. At least he hauled himself off the foot of the leaderboard. The faster the greens the more Ian McKinley likes it, and he also carded his best round of the event, a creditable 65, a score that although lifted him into a share of 6th spot leaves him with no chance of winning. The two halfway front runners increased their advantage over the pack. Bob Fletcher played well for his 65, which included just the one bogey, but now trails the overnight leader, Les Souter, by three strokes. Les recorded the best round of the day, a sizzling 63, and is in prime position to win again at last - or will he snatch defeat from the jaws of victory hehe..?!

Event 37 - 2000 SEI PENNSYLVANIA CLASSIC at Merion East - Round 4
The course had completely dried out, making the greens very, very quick. On the plus side there was hardly any wind to deal with. Ian McKinley was a no-show today and we hope it was because he was just feeling unwell, and nothing worse. Randy Grant again had a torrid time out there, coming in with a 73 to finish in last place. Going into this round Bob Fletcher had a three-stroke deficit to make up on overnight leader Les Souter. In truth, Bob never looked like catching Les and, as expected, his putting suffered on the glass-like putting surfaces, and he could only card a 72. However, he still claimed second spot to end a good week's work. On the other hand, Les excelled in the dry conditions and registered a 65, the equal best round of the day with Scott Hoch. Les's winning margin of ten strokes was not flattering at all, his excellent play fully deserving of such a dominant victory, his first since the FedEx St Jude Classic nearly three months ago. See y'all in Texas this week!

Event 38 - 2000 WESTIN TEXAS OPEN at TPC San Antonio - Round 1
If the weather forecast was right, this should be the toughest round of the event. High winds had to be negotiated and a bad round today may not have been the end of the tourney. Both Bob Fletcher (74) and last week's winner, Les Souter (73), found it difficult out there, while Ian McKinley (72) didn't do much better, but all three have plenty of time to make up lost ground - in theory. The best guest was Randy Grant whose 68 gave him a solid platform on which to build the rest of his challenge this week...

Event 40 - 2000 MICHELOB CHAMPIONSHIP at Robert Trent Jones G.C., Va - Round 1
With only a slight wind the players had the chance to make a good start to the week on this potentially challenging, but very fair, course. Ian McKinley appeared to be still suffering from an after-party hangover following his victory at Ohoopee last week and a 73 was the best he could muster. Randy Grant, who was runner-up in the same event, made a few errors in his otherwise solid opening 70, while Bob Fletcher, back from a two-week holiday, looked refreshed and was happy with his 69, and especially his rare birdie on the 500+ yard par 4 12th.

Event 40 - 2000 MICHELOB CHAMPIONSHIP at Robert Trent Jones G.C., Va - Round 2
High winds greeted the players when they arrived at the course, causing one or two worried looks. As it turned out, all three guests still recorded under-par rounds. Randy Grant shot a 70 to match his opening effort, and Bob Fletcher carded the same score. However, Ian McKinley found the form that won him his fifth title of the season last week, and his excellent 66 saw him draw level with Bob at halfway with Randy just one stroke behind - but they all have work to do if they are to catch the frontrunners...

Event 40 - 2000 MICHELOB CHAMPIONSHIP at Robert Trent Jones G.C., Va - Round 3
There was hardly a breath of wind but the greens were faster than they'd been all week so far. Late starter Les Souter carded previous rounds of 74 and 73, and although today he again improved by shooting a 72 he was still rooted to the foot of the leaderboard. Ian McKinley failed to rediscover the sparkle he showed in Round 2 and a 70 meant a second consecutive victory looked unlikely. Bob Fletcher, however, appeared to be on his way to a special score - until a double-bogey on the 16th blotched his card. Bob still finished with a 67 though and, with only a 3-stroke deficit to make up on the leader, he is in with a realistic chance of claiming his third win of the season...

Event 40 - 2000 MICHELOB CHAMPIONSHIP at Robert Trent Jones G.C., Va - Round 4
Good scoring was possible as there was just a stiff breeze to combat, but the greens were bone dry and ultra quick so putts had to be carefully struck. Randy Grant and Les Souter both recorded their worst rounds of the week, 77 and 75 respectively, to bring an instantly forgettable week to a conclusion. Ian McKinley also struggled, ending the tourney as he had begun it, with a less than satisfactory 73 to finish mid-leaderboard. The best guest performance came from Bob Fletcher who, although he played consistently well all week, it wasn't quite good enough to capture another title. Bob also repeated his opening round score, a 69, which rewarded him with a share of 5th spot, four strokes behind the eventual winner, PGA pro David Toms who claimed the win from Mike Weir on the first play-off hole. Mention must be made of the course, which surely rates as one of the best we've seen on the 2000 schedule!

Event 41 - 2000 INVENSYS CLASSIC at Edgewood @ Lake Tahoe, Nevada - Round 1
Wet conditions were the order of the day, but no wind at all was a definite bonus. However, the only obstacle in the way of low scoring were some problematic pins. Strangely, the greens seemed to run faster than they should have, something which 'threw' at least a couple of the guests. Ian McKinley's game was surprisingly absent and a woeful 79 was the result. Les Souter was understandably unhappy with his 74, while Bob Fletcher needed birds on the final three holes to post a level par 72. Randy Grant, on the other hand, was striking the ball well and he enjoyed a bogey-free round of 67 to set himself up nicely for the rest of the week...

Event 41 - 2000 INVENSYS CLASSIC at Edgewood @ Lake Tahoe, Nevada - Round 2
The greens had completely dried out, making them very quick, but there was still only a hint of a breeze. Even so, none of the guests shot under par - Bob Fletcher and Ian McKinley both managed a 74, while Les Souter could only card a level par 72, not a bad effort in the circumstances because this course is deceptively tricky. All three guests were now languishing at the bottom of the leaderboard and I will be surprised if that changes before the end of the event...
