Hello again! Week 5 done and dusted, halfway there + 2 rounds.
Birds With Big Wings continue their flight by crushing one of the title contenders Tree Hundred Turdy Tree Yards by a whopping margin of 20.5 - 3.5 and with just 4 weeks to go, are still looking good with no losses. Not much to say on this one, the scoreline should be doing it for me.
2 Packs & A Case are putting up a case to be a tough out. Not winning or losing by incredibly large margins, and this week is no exception. They beat Crapsters 'R' Us 15.5 - 8.5, continuing their fairly consistent run. Breeding with a 4 pointer, and Hashimoto with 3.5 with a -67 are the standouts for the winners, as is Classon scoring 3 with a usually minute -36 in all weeks except this one.
Very Firm. Very Fast. are continuing the... well, firm beatdowns of The Goldmembers by a score of 15 - 9. It's been a tough road for those members in gold, getting kicked in their members week in and week out, with just one win so far. Budel and Murray with 4 for the winners, scores of -64 and -54 respectively. Collins with a -67 for the other side, only gets 2. Ouch.
So a carrier pigeon must have gotten lost in this next match, since it took a while to get one set of scores out. Result is in though: Grip It & Sip It defeats A Rundown Dirty Shame 13.5 - 10.5. Top half players scoring well for the winning side, meanwhile Tagariello of the Shame gets 3. This was also the lowest scoring match in total shots, with 270 to 261.
And finally, possibly the upset of the season so far. DeLaet Release, who had taken one big loss the previous week, bounces back and knocks off one of the top units The Green Lovesauce 12.5 - 11.5 in a very close match. No one really knows where the difference is here, but Everard shooting a mighty impressive -63 for 3.5 might have helped the most. Pansegrau with 4 on a -66, shots favored the losing side but points are what matter here.
So with the halfway being reached, the leaderboard looks like this. Birds With Big Wings are firmly in 1st place, 15 points clear of second placed Grip It & Sip it. That race for second is super close, The Green Lovesauce in current 3rd and Very Firm. Very Fast in 4th the closest runners. 2 Packs & A Case are squared in the middle with their consistent scoring every week, while the big loss in week 5 drops Tree Hundred Turdy Tree Yards into 6th place for now. Slight gap after that. Crapsters 'R' Us, A Rundown Dirty Shame and DeLaet Release are in the tight fight right now for 7th to 9th with 3 points between them, and The Goldmembers are currently looking for a hail mary with 44 points in last place. Maximum of 96 points on the table for 4 weeks, so as far as things are concerned, a lot can still happen. Individual race update: Cassino ahead of the pack with 17 points, Lasko and Hashimoto closest behind with 16 and 15.5 points.
Week 6! Welcome to the Ty Webb Classic @ Snail Trails. Designer is one Ryan McConnell, and the course description on the TGC website says... nothing. Like, not even one word. Forums give not that much either, so what I can gather is that this course has some vibes close to Orchard Lake we played a few weeks back. The greens aren't probably super snail paced either, with the weather report suggesting just default and very fast. False advertising? Guess we'll see. Just one choice this week for match of the week: #1 Birds With Big Wings vs. #2 Grip It & Sip It. Potential championship nail in the coffin already in week 6? Or will the second placer knock that gap closer and put some pressure on?
Cheers, and good luck to the second half!

Week 6 done early! Thank you everyone for timely reporting. May you be blessed with good karma.
The Green Lovesauce is the big winner, although very narrowly. 2 Packs & A Case are shotgunned 15 - 9. Big scores don't necessarily mean big points, as Pansegrau's -73 only scores 2.5 points. Yet the full team effort is there, lowest point scorer takes 1.5 so there's that. A bit all over the place this match, lead changes everywhere and round 4 was the final smackdown pushing the gap.
The big #1 vs. #2 match this week is the second biggest blowout this week, although not a large one. Birds With Big Wings smack another one down, as Grip It & Sip It succumb to them with a score of 14 - 10. It was an excellent back and forth match... until round 4, which got absolutely swept and was the ultimate decider. Lasko's nice -63 for 3.5 stands out most here.
Crapsters 'R' Us are not crap this week, as they shovel more of it on top of the misery of The Goldmembers, who seem to be on the losing end almost every week this season. In other news, value of gold keeps dropping. Score of 14.5 - 9.5, one Lindsay Collins of the Members must be the leader of least points gained in relation to highest score. 1 and a half points this week with -74, brutal. 6th pooler Walkowiak with 3.5, score of -48. Subtle differences.
Release the beast, as DeLaet Release come off the high of last week's upset to win again! Tree Hundred Turdy Tree Yards on the other hand are on a slip and slide, losing again. 13.5 to 10.5 to the Release, Horan's -72 for 3 and Baldwin's 3.5 from -57 being the good force for them. Watch out for these guys?
Very close match to wrap up the week, as Very Firm. Very Fast. narrows out A Rundown Dirty Shame 12.5 - 11.5, despite outshooting them by 26 shots. The losing side almost managed to turn it around in round 4, only to just fall short as the winners managed to tie the bottom 3 pairs to narrowly keep their edge in this match. A very good game here.
Leaderboard update through week 6: Big Winged Birds still topping the chart with 98 points, 15 and a half ahead of new second placers The Green Lovesauce. Grippers still in third despite losing with 79, VF. VF. now close behind with 76.5 points. Then the next pack of chasers a bit behind, led by... 2 Packs with 70.5, closely behind is the Yards with 69.5 (almost nice). Crapsters are slightly on their own in 7th with 66.5, DeLaet and the Shame in a fight with 62.5 and 61.5 respectively. And finally, The Goldmembers are still remembering the golden days of week 3 as their only win, stuck in last with 53.5 and possibly could be out of the running for first place mathematically next week.
Week 7 takes us to the first stop of these fancy new National Treasure contest courses, this time they're touring the States. First up we've got ourselves The Caddyshack Open @ Amohalko Springs, designer of this particular course is one Troy Stokes. If you look at the first part of that course name and turn it around, or point it at the mirror, you might see where the inspiration of this course is! Major week somewhere in the tours this week, so Plat players especially might be relieved to know that according to the weather report, they're giving us a fairly easy shake this week. No 187s, nothing too crazy for CC. You can do big things, and big things are necessary as we get closer to the end of the season. I'll be pointing out a midtable scrap as match of the week this time around for funsies and it is the closest match on paper: #5 2 Packs & A Case vs. #6 Tree Hundred Turdy Tree Yards.
Cheers, and best of luck to ya!

We are through week 7, with 2 weeks to go. Feeling the heat yet? Onto the matches that happened the past week.
The Green Lovesauce, ranked #2, tightens the grip around it and claws some back with the biggest win of the week. Crapters 'R' Us are felt feeling like it by a score of 16.5 - 7.5 thanks to a solid all around team effort by the saucy group. Not bad when no one's scoring worse than a 2 pointer and the biggest is Cheghall with 3.5!
The Goldmembers have finally done it! They notch another win to the books and not a moment too late, as A Rundown Dirty Shame goes down 15.5 - 8.5. Collins, as per usual, leads the way with the score of -77 and 3 points this week, yet Anderegg is the one with the most points for a full 4. They technically aren't still out of it yet...
One team that showed much promise early on is now sliding down hard. Like, about 333 yards down the slide. Tree Hundred Turdy Tree Yards, after losing big time a few weeks back, is now suffering another hangover caused by 2 Packs & A Case. 15 - 9 is the final score here, 2 total shots separating the teams yet 6 points the difference. Oh, where could those differences be?
Birds With Big Wings continue to show why their wings are the biggest, another win on their still perfect record with 13.5 - 10.5 margin over Very Firm. Very Fast.. Slight slip up this week for the big wingers as this is their worst point scoring week yet. Although, if that's the worst, what does that really say about their season so far? They must be hoping those big wings carry for 2 more weeks...
And finally here's a first this season: a tied game! Yes, Grip It & Sip It and DeLaet Release fight it out for all the rounds to record 12 a piece. Super sub Titots of the grippers scoring 4 does the big wonders, and the team around him turn the tables big time by racking up 5.5 out of 6 in the last round to pull the tie off. We've gotten close to this a few times this season, and here we finally are.
Team leaderboard through week 7: Big Wings lead still with 111.5 points. They got caught a little bit by the Sauce, they're now 12.5 back with 99 total. Grippers are sipping in third with 91, VFs very closely behind with 87. A battle for third looks to be on the cards right now, as 2 Packs are making their case too with 85.5. Gaps a plenty then, as the Yards are leading the second half in sixth with 78.5 points. DeLaet and the Crapsters are neck and neck with 74.5 and 74 respectively in 7th and 8th. And in the new battle for the bottom, the Shame and the Members are now in it closely with 70 and 69 points. Nice. No one's out of the running for even first place yet, 48 points left on the board to claim and no team is that far behind as of now. However, next week is undoubtedly going to change that and we know who's playing for what then. Individually, so far it's a race of 2 guys on top as Cassino leads from Lasko, 23.5 to 22.5 and pulling a small gap to the others.
Week 8 is upon us and we're continuing the trend of US state based courses in the CC land. This event, the Duffer Classic takes place in Uinta Meadows, a Utah based course by Tyson Staab. Not sure what I personally make of this after a couple of plays before: looks easy enough on paper yet can play tricky. Perhaps the medium difficulty rating on the site is correct here? Find out this week and see what the scores look like. This week's premier match is a tough call as there are no huge championship implicating contests taking place. So how about this one that could have some consequences for the shot at third place? #3 Grip It & Sip It vs. #5 2 Packs & A Case. Let the blood and alcohol flow!
Cheers, good luck!

Dear Happy Tee Friends, I am very happy to announce that Jesse cassinochips has agreed to organize the next iteration of the SOTS cup again! Please give him a round of applause. The SOTS cup will take place right after Season 9 ends, in TGCT weeks 45 (qualifying) and 46. After that, HTF will take a break. Season 10 will begin once the next TGCT season starts. We will need 2-3 weeks of preparation (asking participants about their plans, recruiting players and captains, draft), whence the actual start of the season might be a week late or two. Cheers, The Happy Secretariat
