Week #2 is officially behind us now, slightly later this week than I'd like but here's something for your morning reading.
There's now 1 team hundreds of yards away from the pack, as week 2 leaders Three Hundred Turdy Tree Yards absolutely demolished A Rundown Dirty Shame by a scoreline of 21.5-2.5. What can you really say to this, the team came out to play again this week, putting up an average of almost -60 per player. Tough to do much about that.
2 Packs & A Case are making a winning case this week in the first of the rebound matches of the week, as they put The Goldmembers to a tighter spot at the bottom of the ranks. Match ends 15.5-8.5, couple of 4 pointers from Hashimoto and super sub Bordeaux and 3 people at -71 and better helping massively. Collins of the Goldmembers put up a -76 in a fight to gain valuable points for his team, top score of the week.
Grip It & Sip It are off for some winning toasts this week, beating Very Firm. Very Fast. 15-9. Tighter affair than the score suggests, tied match through 2 rounds and only pulling the gap in the last 2 rounds. Grippers are running to a bit of bad luck at the top pools as Webb scores well but isn't getting points, meanwhile the bottom pools are getting the job done this week, with Lauzé dropping a full 4 with -55.
Birds With Big Wings are getting a big win this week, knocking out The Green Lovesauce 14-10 in a tight, high quality contest of 2 winners from last week. Nice to see my top pick from last week not being cursed! Very close battle, the Birds finding the way in the weekend rounds by at least tying every match!
Last but not the least in the slightest, closest match yet this season in another rebound match. DeLaet Release are releasing a sigh of relief after waiting forever for all the scores to come in, as they narrowly edge out Crapsters R' Us 13-11. Tough to say where this match got decided, but shoutout to our Secretariat Everard for his -67, being the leading scorer of the winners this week with a superb effort.
We are now off to week 3. This week it's the We-Ko-Pa Challenge @ Orchard Lake CC (L). All I have to say about the course this week is this: course created by the most famed 3 letters of the community, CLV. So you definitely know this week is not quite like the others, might actually be one of the tougher CC tests of the entire season and earliest scores suggest the same as well. So be a little more mindful out there if you have yet to play! Top pick for match of the week: #2 Birds With Big Wings vs. #3 2 Packs & A Case, lots of good ones out there this week though.
Cheers, and good luck!

Week 3 is done nice and early this week, lovely!
The Writer's Guild would first of all like to extend their condolences to one team in particular: A Rundown Dirty Shame suffers another bad beat after coming off one last week, getting mugged off by Crapsters R' Us in the only lopsided match up this week by the total score of 19.5-4.5. 3 of the 6 members of the team got shut out, ouch. They'll be needing a week or two of great weeks now at this point for a hope and a prayer, and we're only a third of a way through the season.
Birds With Big Wings continue flying, this week knocking out 2 Packs & A Case 14-10. Cassino's 4 points with a -58 and Musselman also scoring 4 with a -50 probably being the big reasons why they managed to pull off this win because everyone else were splitting points left, right and center. Shot difference was a whopping 32 in favor of the Wings, yet the points were split that hard. Interesting.
The Green Lovesauce are back on the sauce after a narrow loss last week by narrowly being on the right side this week. They defeat Very Firm. Very Fast. 13-5-10.5, with all the difference coming in the third round which the Sauce wins 4.5-1.5. Other than that, closely fought contest.
And then we get to the 2 closest matches. Match B this week sees The Goldmembers narrowly defeat DeLaet Release 12.5-11.5, even though the losing side shoots 13 shots better. Unlucky for some I suppose and in this case, point proven. Very lopsided middle rounds, round 2 was a sweep for the Members, meanwhile the Releasers almost sweep round 3. Superb back and forth matchup.
And finally, the winning run of Tree Hundred Turdy Tree Yards comes to an end by the hands of Grip It & Sip It by the score of 12.5-11.5 for the double sub squad this week. The Grippers simply scored better points as a whole unit, the Yards only got to rely on 3 people to score big this week, with Floppernick scoring the full 4 for them. Just 7 shots separating these 2 teams, early contender for closest match of the season.
Week 4 sees us head off to the Myrtle Beach Invitational @ Red Rock Gorge by Brian Petty, another long timer and well known person in the design community. We're going back to arid conditions with this Steppe themed creation. This course doesn't really lie either: it's got at least a rock. And maybe it's a gorge. Not sure how many of the rocks are red, but you can count them yourselves when you go around the course this week. It's also probably CC level, at least that's what the designer thinks in the course description.
This week's top match is a tough call, so keep an eye out for them all!
Cheers, and good luck!

Week 4 is gone, this week saw some big scoreline differences after last week was a much closer one.
Grip It & Sip It takes the biggest win of the week, 19-5 over Crapsters 'R Us. Only somewhat non-performer for the winners was this guy writing (go me!), but the team effort was efficient and solid everywhere else. Sweeping the pairs and the final round was a huge haymaker that makes the biggest difference.
A Rundown Dirty Shame took the lessons learned in previous beatdowns of last 2 weeks and gives one themselves here, DeLaet Release feels the pain 18.5-5.5. Pair of Engels and Everard of the Release kept things at least a tiny bit interesting by scoring half or more of the points, but the smackdown was real everywhere else.
The Goldmembers can't catch a break. Another week goes by and another tough one to take. Birds With Big Wings knock them out 18-6. Steady split of points for members of both teams, the Wings just take the bigger share of them much like every week of the season so far, continuing their 100% win record.
The Green Lovesauce vault themselves into second place in a close race, as they drive past Tree Hundred Turdy Tree Yards into a 17.5-6.5 win. Insane battle between top pool players Pansegrau and super sub Sloan, trading blows left and right as both go into the -70s this week. Top stuff.
Closest match of the week was between Very Firm. Very Fast. and 2 Packs & A Case. No, there's no build up for a joke. Scoreline shows 13.5-10.5 for the first mentioned team, 2 shots the difference between the teams. Wow, this could have gone either way!
I will be taking a closer look at the standings after next week passes by and we're officially past the halfway point. Everyone are still a great week or 2 away from having a shot at the good stuff, some start needing it quicker than others.
Alright, so have you gotten bored of wide open courses, where the only real challenge is to avoid the rough and the bunker traps? How people are complaining that all the courses are the same and it's boring? Well prepare to read some different complaints on the boards this week, as The Fall Classic at Dancing Rabbit (in the summertime) takes thee to Broad Arrow Bay (Tour). Designed by Rick Warrek, this should be an intriguing test as something called... water, is in play a lot more often this week. Only 6676 yards from the back, suspiciously short too. Just keep yourself focused, hydration is very important now but don't get too thirsty while on the course.
Top pick for match of this week: #1 you vs. #2 the course!
Cheers, and good luck!

On to week 5 and perhaps the worst (opening) round in the history of HTFs? I was cruising at -7 after 8 in rd 1, only to miss hit my tee shot on 9 which rolled down the cliff and...stayed there. My second shot ricocheted off the cliff into the water. I then didn't appear to be able to declare unplayable, so again so my options were a drop back on the cliff or in the water! After further problems via the cliff and water, I took a drop 150 or so yards back into the heavy rough! (Why wasn't this game tested properly?) and eventually signed for a 9. By this stage I'm on the brink of retiring from the game with full blown Tourettes and praying for divine deliver of 2k23! All things considered, my score this week isn't too bad.
Rd 1 -4 Rd 2 -10 Rd 3 -14 Rd 4 -13 -41
