Have started a new Long Island RCR project, the historic Garden City Golf Club. After playing with textures and themes for days, I think I have found exactly what I am looking for using the bury plant tree function in the Delta theme to "burn" out where the graduated rough would be and then laying down the lush green step-cut heavy rough closer to the fairways as in real life. In fact, I am loving the realistic look to this that I may go back and do Shinnecock and employ this strategy. tpetro was right all along in the Shinnecock WIP thread - Go ahead say "I told you so". The second photo really shows it. I only have two holes laid out with the rough in its locations at the bottom of the second screengrab.

I would gladly say "I told you so" but I'm too busy staring at this gem. I love this golf course so much. Glad to see it in good hands.

This will be great.
Did you just bury a thousand trees under the Delta ground?

I had this problem with Brookline, glad you got it straight away, I spent 6 hours laying fescue down before starting again with the scorched Earth look.
Autumn and Borreal work good with it too if you want to mess around even more with it, cedar tree at full size just under the surface is an excellent earth scorcher!

This will be great. Did you just bury a thousand trees under the Delta ground? Did not take too many trees. Just used a wide ash tree and increased the size and then buried the thing. Only took about 50 or so to get the right look.

Yes I do like the Borreal burnt out look, but the major problem I could not get past mentally was the Borreal backgrounds are all way too hilly/mountainous . This area of LI (and LI in general) is very flat.

Wow that looks awesome! Maybe the in game version will make up for the fact that my member-friend refuses to bring me out to the real thing

This course is so sick. Thank you for doing it and thank you for taking the time to think things through before just starting the process. I like the textures you're starting with as it seems very realistic to the actual course....

Yup, know that feeling - I liked autumn but it’s very hilly and was too late in the project to raise the centre of the plot upwards as I’d buried things. You live and learn hahah!

Alright, need another brain, any ideas on replicating this steeple? This is what i have so far, can't seem to get any better...

I wouldn't worry about that. 0.1% of us players will have seen this irl. The way that you did it looks natural and trying a gimmick to replicate the steeple could just draw attention to it.
This is looking really good. It's a great thing doing a course without trees, or where they are only in clumps. Makes your job easier and the lighting ends up being way better because you can get lower sun angles without it getting too dark.

In the design tool can you create the mow line down the centre of the fairway like the overhead shot in the earlier post? Just wondering as I have not seen this in other courses. Looking good too pobee!

Looking good too pobee! Ugh, not having that fairway mow option (classic cut) in the game really bugs me. It’s implemented on tons of great courses.
