Just a quick heads up. If any of you guys are interested in trying out some golf without grids, Barefoot Golfers has a new season starting today. It's run by Reborn Toaster and this season he's mixing it up a little by keeping scout cam on but green and lie grids off. Might be a nice happy medium to test the water. He picks great courses and we have a good bunch of guys in there, admittedly less since the update but still a full leaderboard most days. And, not a new season, but Simulation Sanctuary is another non-grid society to try out. Longpoleshallow runs this one and it's no scout cam and no grids (and I think he has the aim marker locked as disabled). He's been alternating between pro and master swing difficulty the last few days to see how things go post-update. Just a thought if you guys find the time or want to try out playing with the green grids disabled. Takes a little getting used to but isn't as hard as you might think and if you do try it out I'd suggest playing with a ghost to get a heads up on the lines on the greens until you're more comfortable. Broad range of scores too with the people that already play. Cheers! I can certainly attest to Barefoot being a great society and Reborn Toaster being an even better guy. I'm not huge on no grids but anyone keen on that for sure go and check it out. Craig, say whats up to Toaster for me next time you play with him... Been trying to get a round in with him for months but just haven't been on / available at the same time. Good group of guys!

"The definition of insanity, is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different result." Albert Einstein.
Hit what you 'feel' should be perfect and do it every single time, it's the best you can do regardless of what it says.
Sorry but, for the most part you can hit faster swings than the one before and register slower than the last. This game on xbox at times is simulated insanity, don't drive yourself mad, literally.
I could rant on but I think it's obvious.
A question if anyone knows and apologies if it's been addressed anywhere but does anyone play this game on xbox one x? Does it feel anymore consistent?

Fwiw I agree and that's why I focus more on the transition rather than actual speed of my swing. I think the terms 'fast' and 'slow' are the wrong choice for what the tempo is and slightly misleading. 'early' and 'late' seem closer to what I reckon they refer to. I found the game pretty rough on One X but Series X has definitely been an improvement stability-wise. It's an open question whether it's helped tempo but my own intuition is it does a little.

I assume you mean Series X - It is slightly better - at least when you hit bad off tempo it actually feels like 'you' did it and not just random..

Yes I meant series X my mistake. Thank you, at least it's some improvement then by the sounds. That's what I would assume 2k are banking on anyway.

The game is definitely more stable on the Series X, plus pretty stunning visually on a 4K TV. However we do still have the exact same tempo issues on Masters difficulty, you're either perfect or you're dead. I also agree with Craig, the transition is as important as the speed of your swing. If you're a little slow at the top you're getting a slow even with a normal downswing speed.

No Xbox here =/, so I can't verify!
For some clarification before moving forward - As we all know, IRL Tempo is the total combination of your backswing and downswing combined. This is false on PS4, where Tempo begins to be measured starting at the exact, and earliest moment the game registers a forward motion with the analog stick. The analog stick can travel approximately 5mm forward before stopping, however, through testing I believe only the first 25% of motion matters, or around 1.25mm of press. The rest of the forward motion simply finalizes swing plane, sometimes giving us some weird feedback if we continue pressing forward too long, especially when combined with slight left and right slides of the stick. I guess a lot depends on what you classify as "transition". On PS4 backswing has no impact whatsoever. There's no need to try and match back/forward, or any similar ratio's or timings. On PS4 Tempo = Forward Analog Stick Speed. Maybe Xbox truly gets shafted in literally, every single area of this game that matters!! =/ PS4 registers every 4 ticks and Xbox every 8 ticks (controller governor!), so if everything does happens in the initial 1.25mm of motion, then yeah, big disadvantage for Xbox.

First of all, you're a wizard lol really interesting reading that. What I meant by transition was simply the importance of the timing and speed of the start of the downswing once the backswing is completed if that makes sense. I have zero tech knowledge at all but if I'm understanding you right I think what you're saying is the start of your downswing (or beginning of the push forward) is most important because that's where all the tempo calculations are. If so, I think that kind of tallies up with how I feel when I play and I just call it the transition if that makes sense. Really interesting as always man! I love reading your stuff and trying to forget it when I play so it doesn't annoy me about my Xbox experience haha!

Thanks. I was gonna try and reword some stuff, but I guess you guys get the gest of it. I was gonna add something along the lines of, the controllers have an analog stick range of motion of 10mm. Starting at neutral, you get 5mm of reverse, and 5mm of forward. Take a look at VS. When attempting a VS some people have a difficult time starting the swing, thus taking them a few tries right?
This occurs because they haven't met the minimum requirements of Tempo, or in other words, they haven't pushed beyond Neutral. They're still in reverse. That's why I said it depends on your definition of "transition". If someone is in full reverse, or at full backswing, the game won't register ANY FORWARD motion until you go beyond Neutral, into first gear.
In 2K21, Neutral analog position is 0, full backswing -5, and full downswing +5. Technically, moving the stick from -5 to -4 is a "transition", however no Tempo requirements have been met. In order to achieve the minimum requirements to begin the Tempo process, one must go from -5 to a +.000001. Hope that clarifies it a bit more!!? Cheers.

If it only reads the first part of the swing and disregards the rest that explains why the flick swing was so successful in the last game and you can still do it to a point on this one.

Hope it didn't seem like I was disagreeing btw just in case I've worded mine badly. I think you're totally right and i was just describing my -for lack of a better phrase - swing thoughts when playing lol

Do you have any idea why there are not the same problems with PC with and Xbox one controller or Series X controller?. The series X controller is so much better for me than the Dualshock 4. Actually it is so much better than my older Xbox One controller but maybe that's because of wear to my older controller. If it was all down to sensitivity of the controller we would be having the same issues on PC. It was hard to get any input from the Switch Pro controller (which has the same polling rate as the Xbox controller) as I was getting crazy vf and Vs and the stick was hard to hit straight.Maybe with a bit of practice, but it was much harder than the DS4 or Series X controller. I have read somewhere that you can overclock the Xbox controller to 4ms on PC which is the same as a plugged in DS4.

Also another question to Xbox users, are all 3rd party controllers limited to the same polling rate at the official ones for Xbox?.

As for the rest, I've read more stories of people having greater success on PC with DS4 controllers. I believe (?) even Re-Spawn and CrazyCanuck said similar things? Moving forward lets hope HB changes code or engines. The current state of affairs is seriously flawed imo. This is easily the worst iteration of the game in my eyes, and this is coming from someone who can go low in any game setting.
