Bucs got some ref friendly calls in this game. Chiefs still should have been able to overcome those bc that’s what champions do but it was still disappointing to see the officials have such a heavy hand in it. One PI call was incidental contact which is not a penalty. Another PI in the end was a ball so uncatchable that Shaquille O’Neal on a 10 ft ladder couldn’t reach it. The momentum these created for Tampa were huge. My wife is from Kansas and a Chiefs fan- I've watched every single Chiefs games this year. Mauling WRs and double dog daring the refs to make calls is a big component of their D... they got away with so much sh|t throughout the season that didn't get called. I thought it was great the refs called it tight in the first half. It's an easy fix- keep your hands off the wr's down the field. The PI on Evans streaking down the sideline saved a TD... the PI on Mathieu in the end zone should have been holding- ball on the 4 instead of the 1. but with KC running out a JV offensive line- it really doesn't matter- they could've played 4 more quarters and I'd bet more on Mahomes getting knocked out of the game vs actually scoring a TD. Brady is going to get all of the accolades- but Leftwich and Bowles were on point and called phenomenal games. I don’t buy into the karma reasoning against the Chiefs for those bad calls. We deserve a fairly called game, not some kind of retribution officiating. The call against Evans should have been a non-call, saving a TD anyway. It was incidental contact as their feet got tangled. Should have been a non-call. The PI against Matthieu, as you admit, was not PI. Illegal contact or holding maybe, which are 5 yds and a 1st down instead of putting the Bucs at the 2 with 1st and goal. There was another holding call on Matthieu in the game where the ball was tipped and picked. That was one of the weakest DB holding calls I’ve seen in a long time. The difference in field position means something on both of those. I’m not saying those officiating blunders cost KC the game, the Chiefs could have played better and overcome the adversity. What I am saying is that there was some serious bias against them in the first half. It was pretty obvious. If it was purposeful retribution then those refs should be fired. Gronk got away with a lot of crap too btw. Especially the two false starts on plays that resulted in moving the chains. Oh well, us Eagle fans are in “wait til next year” mode and curious to see how the QB situation shakes out.

The Chiefs have, all year, stretched the limits of the rules with the DBs grabbing and holding of WRs as they come out of their breaks/ cuts. I imagine there was a lot of back room lobbying and sending film to the NFL in the 2 weeks leading up to The Game... I saw one pre game quote by Andy Reid that said he was hopeful the Refs "let them play... let the DBs be aggressive". of course Reid's style of Defense ( rush/ blitz 6 or 7 and play man 2 man) would rely heavily on officials not calling it tight- so I can understand the lobbying. and I find the "bias" a stretch as the Bucs rush 4 and play 7 in a zone- their style gives you the underneath throw and relies on good tackling- is less conducive to hand fighting/ and holding calls.. There's always infinitely more holding on DBs playing man to man.

Completely agree. It was way too much of a change compared to the rest of the playoffs. If something was being remarkable during this "special" season, was the way referees where just letting the game be played. We had faster games than ever, we had games with one or two flags during a complete half. I guess that Packers fans have something to say about the comparison of this game vs. the NFC championship game, just to name one example. I don't buy that, the succession of penalties during first half has nothing to do with karma. And, as much as I congratulate the Bucs on the win and I am happy for them and some people at their roster (not for Suh, that is for sure), I don't buy either that the bu***it served by the zebras had no influence on the result. Football is a game of momentum, and there is plenty of momentum change from a 7-3 to a 21-3.
I didn't have a good feeling about this game the whole week, that is the reason I didn't post before (so superstitious as I am). We have had too many games coming from behind in the past, too many close calls and miracles, one day it was simply not going to happen. And then we had the injured OLine mismatch with the Bucs pash rush. And then we had Patrick's foot injury which never came to be 100% healed. And then Reid Jr.'s crash. And then... That was karma and destiny calling, not a bunch of bad referees deciding to be the MVPs of the night and officiating totally opposite to the rest of the season.

There's always infinitely more holding on DBs playing man to man. You implied the retributive karma by saying you thought it was great they called the game tight - except they didn’t call it tight, they made several bad calls (and non calls) that benefitted the Bucs. It was clear and obvious to everyone with eyeballs. Every DB in the league pushes the envelope in coverage. I’m sure I can check replays of this game and find several instances of Buc DBs being handsy with Chief receivers. That’s not just a KC thing. Chiefs may have a bigger reputation for it but that doesn’t mean they stand alone doing it. As for the letting them play comment, that’s what every coach wants in every playoff/title game in every sport. Hell, ex-players who become announcers constantly say it. Face it, the refs sucked yesterday. But the Chiefs weren’t good enough to overcome it so they lost and deservedly so because their OLine got pwned by the Buc front 4. I don’t blame the refs for the loss. That’s 100% on KC. I blame the refs for not calling a fair game.

I thought Shaq Barrett was the MVP.

I also feel the Chiefs lost because Patrick ran around way too much. Yes, I know he had a bad O-line but his running back 20 - 30 yards and then trying to make a play....uh - NO
I know he had to scramble but he looked like a high school QB avoiding taking a hit.
According to ESPN Stats & Info, the Bucs pressured Mahomes a Super Bowl-record 29 times, forcing the Chiefs quarterback to run for a total of 497 yards behind the line of scrimmage before he was sacked or got rid of the ball.

Yes, I also had that feeling. He had to run for his life, that was clear, but it was too much. The coaches should have found alternatives. On the other hand, he indeed threw a few miracle passes that should have been caught by the receivers and would have made things a little bit different. Especially the one from the right side, parallel to the ground. Come on, if your QB manages something like that, you can't let it bounce on your helmet

Mahomes took a page from Kyler Murray’s first two seasons, when Kyler should be taking the page from Patrick. When you have no time and need to run for your life, you can’t be successful. I’d take edge rushers and a top safety all day in the annual draft. These are the guys who win you football games

I actually was rooting for him to get the MVP or the entire D of the Bucs.
