Yeah I hope people don't take this event as it being the scores will always be this way. Firm greens make this game extremely difficult to score well as well as length. The course from this event was short with soft greens and the short game is just so easy that there were birdies everywhere. Also most pins are in bowls. Any course with firmer greens or pins well guarded will be difficult right now. Try the current TST event at East Lake.

I find this game impossible to play using the finger and thumb method that I've used for 6 years. From tee to green I can get some sort of rhythm going at times, not often, but on the greens it's a complete nightmare. I can just about hit a put in the 20-30% range if I ninja flick the stick back and forth (you can't slow swing it using finger and thumb, at least the way that I have to hold the controller anyway), but usually I will go past that range and the ball will fly 10 feet or more past the hole, even if it is only a couple of percent. An awful system, Sorry brad I disagree with the putting comment! Ive layed finger and thumb for years and i think the putting mechanic is a serious upgrade on previous models and i putted the hell out of the last 2 tbh. The greens read so much truer and if you hit the line you want it will track and hold its line. If you miss you know where youve messed up. I take it back slow as i can and try to repeat this tempo on all putts. If its a 90ft ill change the camera angle to give me a better visual of the backswing ive gotta hit. Using the finger and thumb you get less haptic feedback as your thumb is not on the top of the stick. Its fainter but its still there. My misses are mainly inches short or marginally underhit but still on a good line so im happy with that atm. Its on me and that consistency will come the more i play it. The swing mechanic on the other hand is beast mode! If you swing it slow the margin for error is miniscule ive found as if you ramp it up a few % its big fast and vice versa for being lazy with it. Ive found if you stick to a tempo very similar to 95% tgc2019 swing and repeat it. Its the way to go on full swings. Pitches flops and splash shots all have different tempos to hit perfect aswell but they do in real life. If you dont accelerate fast enough thru a bunker shot its got slow written on it all day. I played a couple of rounds on the fenyard keep event last night and r2 was a -4 which i felt disapointed with as made a double on a par 5 trying to tin cup it and a couple more stupid bogies. All of my own doing Then im 4/5 under thru 14 in r3 which i also made some really stupid mistakes mainly on the short holes or par 5s. I still hit the bomb or go for the par 5 in 2 and i know its the wrong shot. Your better off leaving yourself a comfortable yardage and pinging it in close. Im still miles away from where i know i can get scoring wise but its coming the more i play. My biggest gripe is the gapping on the clubs you have to use to get more forgiveness and my golf bag looks like a cheap second hand set atm. Ive got more odd irons than katie price has had husbands. We'll get there tho the game is only a week old. Im hoping some of the irons get a buff. To make them more inkeeping with a truer yardage but thats my main gripe so far. How can some sets only have 7/8 yrds between the longer irons is beyond me. Yet the wedges have 14-16. Over the same 4° of loft. Its only a small observation but hope they get tweaked to be more uniformed but i doubt it. They are non golfers from novia scotia after all 😁 I have no idea how you hold the controller? But for me it is IMPOSSIBLE to pull the stick back slowly using the method that I have used for the whole of this franchise. I don't have my thumb and finger on the controller at the same time, my thumb will be hovering until I push forward. It has always been all about flow to me, this game has no flow at all. I don't use haptic feedback anyway, I have that switched off as it's another kiddy addition to a kiddified game. The swing speed has more than doubled in speed since the last game where it was already too fast. They want you to play partial shots, but only if you set the yardage marker shorter than 100%. Why did they not just make it all about feel with a nice smooth swing system instead of this arcade memory game BS.

Just move the joystick back partially, then flip it forward for putts. You don't need to get the stick all the way back.

Have a run at the elite event if you haven’t yet. Very tough setup. Shot -7 over 4 rounds and currently sitting third. Steve Sloan’s gone and shot -21 the mad man.

Just move the joystick back partially, then flip it forward for putts. You don't need to get the stick all the way back. I've tried that Mark, it just feels totally alien, awkward and non-repetitive to me. When I push forward after pulling the stick back partially, I get banana lines that miss the hole by several feet. If I pull the stick back fully then I have no issue with making a straight or straightish line with my upswing. It's as though HB went out and made the game that's totally opposite to what I'd have wanted. EDIT - So this is weird: I was struggling badly tempo wise with the controller that I was using and getting a lot of hitching on the swing. I had calibrated my swing but it didn't seem any better for doing that. I decided to try another controller as my frustration levels were through the roof: unbelievably the other controller felt pretty good right away, not perfect but much better - with the calibration from the first controller Now I'm not hitting perfect after perfect, but I'm getting way more than I did before. I'm actually able to play for the fast downswing on purpose when I feel that I need to. Tempo outcomes seem a little more in line with the swing that I made, rather than being a mystery most of the time with the other controller. As for the putting, I'm still unable to produce a slow backswing with the grip that have, but at least this controller seems to go forward and backwards most of the time without getting stuck, or not moving backwards at all like my other one at times. I'm just going to have to play with the lightning putting stroke and try to get some sort of feel for it.

Learn to put the same speed as your full shots so you can keep your putting line straight-ish. It'll take you 10-20 minutes on the practice green and when it finally clicks you'll thank me.
Edit: In terms of finding the correct backswing length don't count like in previous games Ie 1 second / 10ft or whatever. You can use markers on the green that will show you when to push forward on the stick. Whether it be your golfers foot, a tree shadow, the green grid line. You may blow one past the hole or end up short sometimes but overall its much better than getting the correct tempo on a 6ft putt and missing a cup or two left with the slow backswing.

I hate the putting too but just turn off haptic feedback, I don't use the power bar anyway, and the putting is pretty much like 2019! I just tried it and that really appears to be the case.

Hard to explain but...Even if you have the distance/marker aids off, is the default shot setup they give you, the full normal shot for the setup they give you? I play by feel but it seems you have to make a full swing because the distance suggestion or whatever is automatically set up, but I can’t see it because the aids are off?

Like I dump a lot of little finesse shots way short because of this I think. I’m hitting a percentage shot by feel but the game already sets that up and you have to swing full to pull the finesse shot off?

I don’t think it is very intuitive like last game where you could easily eyeball it. My suggestion would be to change your settings to tgc recommended just so you can see / get a feel for it before going back to your settings.

I just checked the settings and realized I’ve been playing with the distance control assist on the whole time but I didn’t know because I have all the markers set to off. That would explain why my short game has been awful and why I can’t break par.

One should also ask themselves this question when looking at the scores shot in this event....
Would some of these scores pass an api check?

Well...only went for -17 because I shot +1 in round 4...just had a terrible round, 4 putted from 10 feet, and lots of near misses...BUT...I improved from last tourney where I only shot -10. On to next week, where my goal will be -25 LET'S GO!!

Getting a little exasperated with the game now tbh.
My "natural" fairly aggressive swing produces a big fast, so i try and temper it. Result - big slows. The margin for error i so tiny i'm having a hard time believing there isn't a a big element of randomess to it.
I've played ok in some rounds but starting to feel that was more luck than judgement.
