Welcome to the inaugural season of the TGCT Design League! This unique contest brings a Fed-Ex Cup structure to design for the first time, where designers get to enter in several mini contests that lead up to a TOUR Championship this winter. Each mini contest will run for one month, and the Major Championship will run for a month and a half. Players have complete freedom of choice of whether or not to enter each individual contest, but any entrant who enters and publishes will receive points. Winners of each individual contest will earn 100 points and a reward to be determined. At the end of the regular season, we’ll tally up the points and announce the field for the TOUR Championship.
   

Note: Season has been scheduled around the release of PGA 2K21 and offers a 9-day grace period between the release of the game and the start of our third contest.

Quick Rules:

- Players may not begin work until the contest begins at the start of each month. 

- Be civil. This is meant to be casual. 

- No file-sharing 

- No extensions 

- Streaming/WIP threads are permitted encouraged! Show us your work! 

The Field:
  

- Anyone can enter. 

- If player A participated in the first month’s contest, he is not locked in for the next and may choose not to participate with no penalty. Conversely, if player B did not compete in the first event, he still may compete in any other event 

- Cap for each contest will be 30 entries with 2 alternates if necessary. Each month’s signup will open 48 hours before the window opens, first come, first served. If we do not reach 30 by the start date, players may sign up at any time up until 10 days prior to the publish deadline. 

- Fed-Ex Cup style point distribution: There is no penalty for not entering a contest. However, by simply publishing an entry, a player will receive 20 points.

Judging:

- 4 Judges 

- Decisions made by committee. No rubric. This way, we should be able to speed up judging process, as a small committee just needs to agree upon a ranking.   

- Each judge will play and take notes on each course when it is published to expedite the process. 

Point System/Scoring for Each Contest: 

- Champion: 100 pts. 

- Runner-Up: 75 pts.  

- 3rd Place: 50 pts. 

- 4th & 5th Place: 40 pts. 

- 6th thru 10th Place: 30 pts. 

- Participation: 20 pts.
 

Timeline:

- Each mini contest will run for about a month  

- The publish window is the entire month 

- The next contest will start immediately as the publish window for the first contest closes. Topic/restriction will also be announced on the day the contest opens to prevent starting early.   

- Judging will run about 5-10 days into the following contest, as results have no bearing on the field of the next contest. 

The Mini Contests: 

CONTEST ARE NOT FULL 18 HOLE CONTESTS. 6 HOLES AT MOST.

- Each contest will run small challenges. No full-length 18-hole courses.  

Schedule:

o Contest No.  1 (June 1 – June 30) 
Build 6 Holes With No Trees

o Contest No. 2 **MAJOR** (July 1 – August 15) 

o Contest No. 3 (Switch to 2K21, Sep. 1 – Sep. 30)  

o Contest No. 4 (Oct. 1 – Oct. 31)

o Tour Championship (Nov. 15 – Dec 31)

The TOUR Championship: 

- Top 10-15 in season standings after Contest 4 

Rewards: 

- Winners of each mini contest will receive a reward TBD.  

- Contestants with the most points at the end of the season will receive a Matt Fritsch painting of a hole of their choice.

- Winner of “Tour Championship” will receive a larger reward TBD and a donation in player’s name to a charity of player’s choice, as well as host of the DAM Major for Adventure Golf in 2021.

Outside the restriction of trees, do whatever else you need to do to make the course as interesting as possible. The goal is to focus on your hole design and not the surrounding environment. No other requirements are needed to be followed.



We are asking for 6 holes only. Please publish only 6 holes. You are more than welcome to design more with the plot you created after making another version specifically for the contest.

Sounds like a great idea, but definitely more suited to PC designers. Hard to get projects completed that quickly on console with a stop/start designer and the crashes

The Contests will be at most 6 holes.  That matches the Major timeline (6 holes/month or 18 holes/3 months).  Should be pretty easy to complete on console.

Even though it is not mentioned in the OP, I make the assumption we are talking about Fictional courses, and Lidar RCRs are verboten. Probably ought to clear that up.

Interesting concept and I love the shorter projects as I just can’t do 18 holes in my current world.

Apart from amount of holes will there be other set criteria such as theme for example?

The most you would do is 6 holes per contest. Not 18 holes, but I’m glad you’re interested!

The short answer is yes, but we won't release those details until the opening date of each mini contest.

Sounds like a good idea Dylan, I think I'll watch this from the sidelines though.  Pending how it goes, maybe be up for 'Season 2'

I started asking on stream but thought it be best to continue the questions here. If you could clarify:

So the first month is 6 holes?

Other months might be less but never more than 6?

Can I use the same plot for each month if it fits the criteria, so I can create a full 18 hole course eventually?

If so, and the plot doesn't fit the theme or criteria of the month, I can start a new one or sit out?

What are you wearing?

By criteria I mean there might be an emphasis on one aspect of design or a certain challenge. Correct?

All 4 regular season events are 6 holes.  The championship is 9 holes, but that contest will run for a month and a half should you qualify.

You may use the same plot, but you may not begin work on your next hole 1 (hole 7) in the same month.  You may also create a separate plot for each entry.  When we announce the criteria for each month, you'll know if keeping it on the same plot is feasible.  

The beauty of this structure is that you can always sit out if a mini contest you so desire.  There is no penalty.  You do receive points for entering a submission, however, which is your incentive to compete.  However, if you didn't feel like competing in, say, Contest 2, you name remains on the leaderboards with your points from Contests 1, 3, and 4.

Yes, the criteria for each mini-contest will be challenge-based restrictions within which you are encouraged to be as creative as possible.
