I guess my MCD entry is a poor name, however, my story fits the name... Once a National Park sold off for yet another housng project..but the Mulligan team would not have it...hence the name Mulligan National - AND it is for a major... Hope it doesn't get me any demerit points for that...

For your information, I actually have logical pathways for how my courses are named, and yet, the designs themselves always suck. I think I'm doing it wrong! LOL Edit: I would recommend never naming a course "Hallstatt," as it's a sure sign of failure at the highest level. The problem with the course Eric was that some archaeological nerds in the judging panel were expecting something from the course that can't be found on a golf course: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hallstatt_cultureI second the use of google maps to name your course (Monongahela, my major entry of the last year, for instance was named like that). Also a good option is using a different language than english, it gives the course a more "refined" feel.

We haven't even gotten into the cliched "The Greens at whatever" course names yet. Also, we need PithyDoctorG for his rant on random courses ending in "National." “national” also screams Nicklaus course. I’ll pass, thank you. also when you think about it, shouldn’t every country TECHNICALLY only have one “national”? like there’s one national bank and one national anthem, shouldn’t there be only one national golf course? i mean...

If you asked Dan, every country should only have zero national courses.

It takes a horrendously bad name to really change my opinion of a course (yours would not fit in that category), and even then, it'll never change how anyone judges or reviews a course (that I know of).

Naw, more like Fazio. How many Trump National courses did he design, anyway?

There was an older one I found amusing called something like "Forest Mountain Lake." Then tried to think of what the most amusing combination of three geological features would be. Hope to see "Desert River Archipelago" in the submission queue sometime. Eek. My first (proper) published course was Willow Creek Lake... I think I’ve done a bit better with my more recent ones.

Looking at the queue, this thread might need to be revived. With the number of misspellings, gluts of TPC courses, and courses ending in "v1" we're in for a treat. Shoutout to the designer of "Shinnekock Hills" as well. I have so many questions for you.
