Always thinking of you and family Jimmy. Seems that drug companies are just flying by the seat of their pants right now. This virus will get tamed by science and folks that take it seriously and have empathy for all of humankind.
(Reuters) - U.S. drugmaker Eli Lilly and Co said on Tuesday that the government-sponsored clinical trial of its COVID-19 antibody treatment similar to one taken by U.S. President Donald Trump has been paused because of a safety concern. Trump touted the Lilly drug, along with the antibody treatment from Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc that he received for his COVID-19, as virtual "cures" in a video he posted last week. The announcement comes one day after Johnson & Johnson said it was forced to pause a large high-profile trial of its experimental coronavirus vaccine because a volunteer fell ill. J&J said it does not yet know if that person was given the vaccine or a placebo.
Lilly said earlier this month it was applying for emergency use authorization (EUA) for the antibody drug, LY-CoV555, for patients with mild to moderate COVID-19 based on data from another clinical trial.

How exactly does the flu shot work?
Doctor Mike explains that by getting vaccinated, you’re actually receiving an inactivated version of the influenza virus in order for your body to create its immune defense. Not only does this decrease the likelihood of you getting the flu for this season and next, but it also means you will have fewer complications if you are to get the flu.
“The flu shot will decrease the likelihood of you getting the flu about 40 to 60 percent of the time, depending on how good we are at predicting this year’s flu strain,” says Doctor Mike.
When should you get it?
Flu season typically starts in September and can run as late as the early summer months. However, it’s crucial to be proactive and get vaccinated “before the flu season kicks into high gear.”
Doctor Mike advises us to get the flu shot in September or October because our bodies need at least two to three weeks to start developing the antibodies that will protect us from the flu.

How's the wife doing Jimmy? Been thinking about you guys the last few days. Thanks Dan. Today seems to be her best day yet. Maybe the otilimab is working along with the remdesivir and steroids. She says they draw blood for labs from her like every 4 hours, so they are definitely monitoring it. The more we go thru this the more I think Trump is lying his sss off about having it. I bet he had an allergy or some sht. Decided to play it as covid.

Had a conversation with a couple of co-workers today who basically said that they don't see an end of the attrition we face day-to-day. They weren't just talking about the virus itself, the virus will eventually be remedied but they were referring to all of the events that have transpired over the past 7 months. They said they were being realistic, but its a bunch of pessimism.
Where I am going with this is if we take the attitude of submission and throw in the towel, the situation at hand will get worse. As individual parts in the large society we can all influence the whole. By being valiant and vigilant individually we will help the cause and exponentially have strength in numbers to come together and combat these issues. Having the attitude of things might not get better and what's the point only amplify the severity of the issues at hand. I won't go into details of these issues since I want to keep this thread on the rails, but my point is guys is not everyone is like us here where our noses are to the grindstone and we take adversity right in this friggin chops.
What we need to do is if we encounter family, friends, or cohorts who think the United States is too far gone, we need to remind them of how our ancestors had to face similar challenges and ultimately overcame those afflictions. Whether it was the American revolution, the civil war, world wars, abolishing ownership of slaves, great depression, 9/11 other pandemic etc, past generations had to have a resolute attitude and not back down to the challenge. Backing down only exacerbates the challenges. Understandably, since we all face difficulties and sometimes gruesome situations, we lose sight of the past having difficulties. We often think of the good ole days but really if you look back upon American history, generally every 30 or so years something was throw at us head on to overcome. We did before and we will do it again.
Just because I am optimisic it doesn't mean I want to sing kumbaya or however the hell you spell it and kiss one other. I am not ignorant to what is going on, in fact changes need to be made, but point being after the changes are implemented we will be better off with it.
Look at how modern medicine has improved over the past 100 years. Colds and fevers which were once considered highly deadly now have remedies such as aspirin, zinc tablets etc to help alleviate symptoms, as a result death percentages from colds and fevers have been considerably reduced.
Following the tragic occurrence of 9/11, air travel exponentially became safer as TSA stiffened their grip. This makes travelling nowadays a bit less worrisome.
Its sad how often it takes sheer tragedy and overdue time for problems to be fixed to an improved state but maybe one day things can be resolved before going out of hand.
Long story short, if we all contribute with a willing attitude of solving with optimism, we will overcome, if we wallow in the events of the past 7 months and not attempt to fix, the problems will only become accentuated. Its terrible how much of society cannot comprehend this as simple rudimentary logic.

People are tired. I’m certainly tired of it all. My wife and I have tried to do everything the right way since March.
The irony of my wife becoming infected while at the hospital for something else is insult to injury but it’s also why some people experiencing other issues do not go for help. But then they end or worse or even die at home anyway (heart attacks and strokes).
But as we know now, all of us should have been trying to do the right thing since January. Trump knew. He did nothing but tell lies that led to more people dying than should have.
And they are still dying while he is still lying.
I don’t believe he ever had covid. There is your “hoax”. It’s the President. Always has been. His bs about stopping travel from China and Europe is a lie as well. Thousands of people a day were still able to come in because he didn’t ban them as he says, he just put loose restrictions down that were worthless.
They were targeted at people who would rarely travel here anyway. It allowed business people to continue their travels. That’s the majority of that traffic on any given day anyway.
He lied to us in public but gave the real information job with big investors so they could manipulate the stock market. And those bastards, instead of putting their employees first and protecting them after knowing that info, decided to let them get sick and in many cases die for the sake of a buck. All hail the Benjamins, employees are expendable.
If there was a better example of leadership that was able to navigate tough waters with a calm and honest hand, we would all have been better off.
So yea, people are tired. But they are more tired because Trump’s petulant behavior that makes enduring this tough time more difficult. And the Republican Party along with Fox News are complicit.
Thank goodness for the conservatives in the Lincoln Project who are trying to save the core values that party used to have. At least they recognize the seriousness of our current environment. There is going to be a reckoning for that party after the election and the never Trumpers from the LP will have to rebuild that party from the ashes of covid 19 and Trump’s destruction of f every value they used to have.
These people at his rallies who say they don’t care if they get the virus are selfish pricks who can’t see beyond themselves. Total disregard for the fact that they could give it to someone else and kill that person. Zero respect for anyone else who may care if they get sick.
Every time I see a vehicle with a Trump bumper sticker the first thing that comes to my mind is they could be a covid carrier because they don’t care about anyone else but themselves. Selfish bastards, every one of them. You do not have the right to make other people sick.
There a bar owner who hosted a Don Jr event who is seriously ill with covid now. He now says he would love to punch Trump in the face for all the lies. But I bet there was a time when he sounded like all those rally goers who say they don’t care if they get. Yes, you don’t care now because you don’t have it. Wait until you do get it and find out first hand how much real suffering is involved.
Sorry for the rant but this issue has hit too close to home for me and the idiots spewing Trumpery (a real word, look it up) are really pissing me off these days.
And F NBC too.

Agree with both lengthy posts but in the end it is all up to ourselves as to what we do moving on. I (my family and immediate group of friends) will continue to conduct ourselves as if this virus is just around the next corner. We do that as up here in New England we are seeing a surge as is Europe, Asia and other countries. There were 7 new cases in my little town of less than 12,000 residents and up until two days ago we had only a handful of cases.
The election is just around the corner and I hope just after the election our elected officials get their collective heads out of whoever's ass they are stuck IN and start working for WE THE PEOPLE.

The lying from POTUS last night is reaching really dangerous levels. When I saw the clip where he said 85 percent of people wearing masks still get infected, I almost thought I was asleep and dreamed it. But it goes to show how misinformed - or how badly he intentionally lies to the country. The study he was trying to reference was about how covid spreads at inside venues like restaurants where people take their masks off to eat and drink. It was not a study on wearing masks. It was about what happens when you take them off indoors amongst other people. On a side note, my family has decided not to have Thanksgiving together for the first time in 31 years (since my kids were born). This is my favorite holiday of them all because of the family being together, cooking together, watching football together, shopping together, etc. We have so much fun on Thanksgiving. But this year we will look out for each other no matter how much it hurts emotionally to ensure we are together for the next one

How's the wife holding up Jimmy? In her words “Just saw the doc she says I’m doing great!! She’s gonna send in the physical therapist to see how mobile I actually am while keeping my breath “ She has a tough time sleeping at night though. But last night was better.

www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.10.15.20209817v1Pre-print manuscript (yet to be peer-reviewed) from the WHO’s Solidarity trial. Below is a quick summary: "The WHO’s study, called the Solidarity trial, enrolled more than 11,300 adults with COVID-19 in 405 hospitals in 30 countries. The participants were given four drugs singly or in combination: remdesivir, hydroxychloroquine, lopinavir, interferon or interferon plus lopinavir. About 4,100 received no drug treatment. In the end, no drug or combination reduced mortality, the chances that mechanical ventilation would be needed or time spent in the hospital, compared with the patients without drug treatment." This follows similar pre-publication findings from the NIH’s ORCHID trial using hydroxychloroquine. There may be other clinical benefits, but none of the key ones were met here. Still a long way to go.

There are so many flaws mathematically in the WHO's "Study" that it makes my skin crawl as a mathematician...
Not saying anything on it's accuracy.. but I wouldn't trust that study as far as I can throw it.
