My tweet last night after this happened: How I saw the Garrett/Rudolph incident: - Garrett late sacks Rudolph - Rudolph tries to take off Garrett's helmet & fails. - Garrett tries to take off Rudolph's helmet & succeeds - Rudolph bull rushes Garrett (not very smart) - Garrett hits Rudolph in head with his own helmet. 2/2 -first thing I said to my wife was, " that's assault with a deadly weapon on the streets". The price for this needs to be severe for Garrett. ************************************************************************************************ VctryLnSprts Eric and I were discussing this on Twitter last night also. I had mentioned that hockey players have been known to use their sticks as weapons and he brought up the question of whether Garrett's actions could be grounds for criminal assault. What does everyone think of this entire situation?

@sportscenter Breaking: Myles Garrett has been suspended indefinitely with a minimum of at least this regular season and playoffs, according to @adamschefter.

Here's my take on it. I think Myles Garrett takes his suspension and fines and learns a lesson from this but continues his career in the future hopefully with his emotions more stable. He should consider himself lucky that he did not actually hurt Mason Rudolph. If he would have actually given Rudolph a severe head injury then removal from the league and criminal charges would definitely be necessary. Since the act was on the field and the motive was obvious and no one actually got hurt I would say him not playing anymore this season and possibly carrying over into next season would be fair (along with several fines for breaking league rules).
I will reiterate that Garrett should consider himself lucky he didn't do more harm in his adrenaline fueled outburst. If something more serious resulted from it all (which easily could have happened but fortunately did not) I wouldn't argue that jail time for assault would be necessary.

If that was a back up dlineman doing that to Brady would he be in jail right now? Would his olineman that attacked the guy get 3 games?
Garrett has out of this world talent so he easily get back on the field next year. Everyone knows how this works.

Full calendar year off to think about how unbelievably stupid that was.

I'm of the opinion he should be arrested and charged with assault.

I'm just amazed that this happened when he WASN'T coached by Gregg Williams... Can't be too precise, but it feels like he's been super chippy this year already though; way more than previously.

I had mentioned that hockey players have been known to use their sticks as weapons and he brought up the question of whether Garrett's actions could be grounds for criminal assault. This doesn't quite rise up to Todd Bertuzzi's hunt and sucker-punch of Steve Moore, nor does it rise up to Marty McSorley's hunt and vicious stick-swinging attack of Donald Brashear. I do, however, see one guy already engaged in a fight cross the line by using a helmet as a weapon. Suspending Garrett for the last 7 games (the 3-6 Browns are unlikely to make the playoffs) isn't a stiff enough punishment. I'd go with 16 games. A full year. That's in line with what Sean Payton got for his role in Bountygate (Gregg Williams, the actual mastermind was suspended indefinitely).

I'm amazed at the people blaming Rudolph (the VICTIM!). Extra-curricular happens all the time in the NFL, the only thing that was out of the ordinary was the assault. If you blame Rudolph for "starting it" and say that "he had it coming" then YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM

Well, it was a borderline late hit with the game already decided and 8 seconds left...so he may have escalated it but I don't he "started" it.

I really like Myles Garrett, but this was waaaaay over the top. They have to sit him out the remainder of the season/playoffs. And don't forget the helmet to helmet hit(s) by the DB too. He should be suspended too. If they are truly worried about player safety, there's no place in today's game for any of this nonsense and there has to be an absolute ZERO tolerance policy.
I really want to root for the Browns considering their history (the drive, fumble) and futility since returning to the league, but they make it really hard when you watch/listen to some of them. Some of their arrogance, thug mentality, and self-entitled prima-donna nature is a bit nauseating. On top of that, they haven't won/done anything yet.

If you blame Rudolph for "starting it" and say that "he had it coming" then YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM Rudolph escalated the situation by trying to take Garrett's helmet off while they were on the ground. What was Rudolph trying to achieve by bull rushing Garrett after he had his helmet removed? DeCastro was already defusing the situation. It's not like Garrett went and chased Rudolph down to smack him with the helmet. He went after Garrett. It's not a good reason to smack dude on the dome with his helmet but Rudolph is not innocent in this, he initiated the helmet removals, only he failed in his attempt. I think Garrett, in the heat of the moment, was just saying - "yea, you wanna remove helmets? let me show you how it's done", yanked it off and was being pushed away by DeCastro after. No one is saying he had it coming - I don't see that anywhere by anyone - if I missed it please show me. But I believe he did start it by trying to remove Garrett's helmet. And I'm not part of any NFL problem.

Here's my thoughts. I watched it happen live, I was watching the game.
-Garrett getting suspended the rest of the season and fined is perfectly fine with me. If they wanna make it 16 full games that would be fine also, as it would be consistent with what they've did to some others.
But any more than that? No way. It was a fit of rage and temper, and heat of the moment during a fight, and anyone that disagrees that that happens to even the best of people, has lived a sheltered life. Like I said, I've seen the best people in the world lose control in heated fights- Suspend the man, make him pay the price, think about it, learn from it, and then give him a another chance to right his wrongs.
If they say he should be banned for life, then they should also insta ban Gregg Williams/Sean Payton, Antonio Brown, and retro ban all the other rapists, woman beaters, murderers and dog killers that all got second chances.
-Assault charges? Shrug. Thats up to Rudolph. I'll only say what others have, that Rudolph is certainly within a legal right in todays world to pursue that. Garrett should consider himself very VERY lucky that he didn't hurt Rudolph. But... back in my day.... I saw fights in school bathrooms, where people could have claimed assault and such But that was a different world.
-Pouncey needs to be suspended just as much as Garrett or at least more than 3 games. I mean, c'mon, how is it different that he was kicking the crap out of Garrett while Garrett was on the ground. Garrett had his pads on but the intent was clearly there. Kicking a defenseless man laying on the ground can be assault too, can it not? Pouncey needs 6 to 10 games.
- I guess I'm part of the problem too. Because I think Rudolph needs to be suspended, and more than just a couple games. I'm not saying I thought he had it coming. But it gripes me that people start fights, either with words, or actions, then when the get beatdown they suddenly play the victim. Rudolph wasn't a victim, he initiated it. Then when Garrett was being held back, here he comes rushing at him and did it again.
The other guys need to learn control. What Rudolph needs to learn is don't start nothin', and there won't be nothin'.

It's a good job he didn't hit him with his purple helmet.
