wow, Spectrum didn't make it into the top 10?? Daryl needs to step up his political game. ...sure...that's the ticket.

Huh. So if we’re not top 10 we don’t get our ranking? Do we get judges notes or feedback? Or just a good luck next time? as I said in the video we are happy to provide the ranking and Ciborg has also said he will provide notes. Ok. I’m requesting both.

sure thing. I know that Ciborg is getting the notes and such together to send out. I'll check on the ranking stuff.

Thank you to Reeb, Justin, and all of the judges. I am thrilled with my finish in this one for a couple of reasons. Obviously the first reason is because a top ten is meaning more and more in each contest due to the strength of designs in this community. But furthermore, I really struggled with this course, and although I had a vision, I don’t think it came together the way that I had wanted. I believe that my challenge was appropriate for CC, and I really enjoyed the required elements aspect, but I missed too many marks overall. I will look forward to the judging notes to see how it was received and where I could’ve done better. See you guys in the next contest!

Good luck to the top 5... commiserations to those cut for top 10. Doesn't really bother me too much where I finish so long as my course is well received in the game (4 stars minimum), positive feedback on the forums, gets approved in the database here & is deemed tour worthy. Tick those 4 boxes & I'm happy.... hosting an event down the line is the icing on the cake & makes it even more worth while.

Thanks guys for the commiserations regarding Necedah. Not where I expected to finish, to be sure, and I've been a little grumpy this afternoon, but those are the breaks when you enter these things. I had a few very good breaks go my way in WCoD, didn't get them here. That's the nature of design contests. It's like this guys. We can all work from the same rubric (DRINK!) but at the end, we all have personal preferences that skew how we view courses in comparison to one another. Some love Augus (whoops, I can't say that name), others would rather play Pebble, or Pine Valley or St. Andrews. At the end of the day it all boils down to personal taste. Am I rather disappointed this afternoon? Oh yeah. Do I believe I had a course capable of winning? You betcha. That being said, having sat in that judges chair, I have full appreciation for what they do. It's not an easy task -- and it gets tougher each passing contest as the depth of talent in the field becomes greater. Ultimately, they liked what they liked and didn't like what they didn't and made their decisions accordingly. I may not agree with the end result, but I sure as hell respect the time and effort they put in to reach it and can accept the final outcome. So with that, congrats to PithyDoctorG mattf27 joegolferg Crazycanuck1985 & SindreRev on making the top 5. May the best course win. In the meantime, time to start thinking about what I'm going to do to defend that WCoD crown! I'd honestly be a little concerned if none of the top guys got a little fired up after an early exit. Obviously you don't have to be a jerk about it (which you aren't), but at the end of the day, we do want to win. Obviously that's not the primary goal for many of us, but we all get a little competitive, and we all want to win at some level. That spirit of competition has always added to these events for me, so keep doing you, boo.

I feel I need the push and the pressure of a contest setting to work at my best, but when you invest that much time into something, you’re bound to be a little bummed if your number gets sooner than you would have hoped.

I don't think I necessarily had a winning course, but I did expect to be in the top 10 at least. I watched Reeb's playthrough and his comments were on point if a little more negative than I was expecting (not complaining - designers need the criticism in order to build better courses). That said, now that I'm further away from the creation of the course, I definitely see some reasons why it's not a top finisher.
To be fair, I haven't played any of the other courses (maybe one or two) so I have nothing to judge my course against. From the images I've seen, there are some beauties out there.
Best of luck to the finalists!

Oh Man, sounds like the back room discussions were epic. Sorry I missed out on this one- specifically I would've liked to hear the discussions around Raynor Ridge- bc Joe's template courses are always so polarizing. I cant imagine the judges all rallying around a template course? I agree with comments on Necedah- clearly the best course in the contest- but it could play a bit on the harder side. Those discussions are always epic. I've judged a couple of these now and I can tell you that a lot more goes into this than you can see publically. Think 12 Angry Men. When one or two judges love a course but are in the minority, they argue their points until the rest agree or don't. Some guys hate a particular course and have to just eat it because everyone else loves it. You say your peace but in the end, the majority wins.
As for me and my course, it looks like I picked at least one required element that I shouldn't have. Based on Reeb's critique, one of the required elements was a hole he did not care for. In retrospect, I don't much like the hole either except for what it looks like. In the end, my course looks awesome, but plays poorly. The exact opposite of most of my courses.

Violinguy69 I think the novelty of the required elements definitely led a few of us into trying things we wouldn’t normally which was always going to bring pros and cons. I’d say for every one that did work for me (125ft hole), I had one that didn’t (bunkerless holes). However, I do feel that I got better as a designer because of it and we had a better competition for it. I doubt we’d have seen Rocky Top and that would have been a huge shame. I was definitely surprised by Bastiaan and Sabal Sands not making the cut and I’d disagree about yours not playing well - I really enjoyed it. As a new designer though, and all credit to Andre, Matt, Eric, Reeb and all the guys who stream and add content to help the community, I do think it’s a lot easier for newbies to get better and so it will definitely lead to tighter contests. Just look at Sindre’s work, for example. I guess, in short, more good designers might mean that we miss out individually, but it’s seriously good for the community.

Got me too I think. My 125 foot elevation change hole was a 3-shot par 5 (boring), and was also my 18th hole and heading away from the sun. I'm still kind of kicking myself.
