You will get wavy fairway edges anytime you overlay the heavy rough on the fairway. Th way to do it without getting wavy edges is to take a brush and trace the edges of the fairway with a tiny gap between your brush and the fairway. If you get too close you get wavy lines and if you get too far you’ll have a small gap. This is a real pain and most vets will tell you the same. That’s gold, I’ve just run heavy rough round the border by half overlaying the brush and on inspection there was a wavy edge

I did a very quick tutorial on the wavy fairway edges this morning on my twitch channel. Here it is for anybody who wants it. Good luck!

I was taught a ton of valuable stuff competing in this last year. 100% worth it just for this alone.
Good luck to everyone!

Well, did a recent "Joy of Planting" episode where I did some hole creation basics and gave a couple pointers for complete newbies. A little rambling, but hopefully there's some value in it somewhere.

Is there a series called “The joy of other bits around a golf course”. Quite catchy I know! Some courses are staggering in the accessories that have been designed in.

Honestly, forget about it for now. There is nothing worse than a course where it feels like the golf holes are secondary to the extras. By all means, map out an area where you might put a nice clubhouse and go to it later, but it'll be the course that scores you points in this contest, not the extras. There are certainly a number I've played recently that fell into this trap and it just isn't worth it.

The courses that do those two things right are going to be near the top almost every time, and the extras might only break the tie between the handful that execute the basics effectively.

Just in case you can't find Matt's stream over on Twitch, here's the YouTube video of his latest Joy of Planting episode, which, as he says, is really aimed at this contest. All his stuff is very useful, but this seems an appropriate place to pop this one:

Hey Patrick, what do the asterisks next to some of the participants' names mean? Just curious

Hey Patrick, what do the asterisks next to some of the participants' names mean? Just curious Those are the participants who had participated in a contest prior to this one. It was important to note, as the number of participants who fit this criteria was limited to 10. We ended up with 3 in the field.

It essentially means it’ll look even worse when we don’t make the cut 😎
