Good stuff. Just joined a no aids tour and really enjoyed it. Hopefully this site will get an official no aids tour as well. I get a better feeling shooting 69 with no aids than shooting 59 with.

Agree 100%. I shot a 68 with no aids yesterday and I was ecstatic. I also shot a 62 with aids and I was furious. These are awesome to watch Scott.

e12 - The Canuck Club at Angels' Plateau (1-over, 73)wind: low, 1-7mph Recap: So my intentions were good, but the game just wasn't there today! Trouble off the tee had me scrambling more than once on Angels' Plateau. But before all that, we had our first hole. It was a nice birdie. It gave me confidence that I would be tearing up the course. The wind was low, the first few holes were short. So I'm going to be off to the races. Not so much! 5 straight pars and then the dreaded bogey on a par 5. Saved that with a dialed in approach shot on the par-3 8th to get back to 1-under par at the turn. The back nine was just full of struggles trying to keep the ball in play. It's hard enough playing under these extreme settings, but doing so with a erratic swing is just a recipe for disaster. That's what happened on the 13th and 14th. A poor chip on the 13th led to a 2-putt bogey and I followed that up with another on on the 14th. I wasn't able to capitalize on the remaining 4 holes and we finished just over the par or bust cut line, 1-over, 73. Lovely course, just wished I had brought a better game to it!

e13 - Spanish Oaks Golf Club-Championship (5-over, 77)Wind: breezy 5-12 mph'ish Recap: Well my previous round was full of poor swings and mishits so I'm not sure why I decided to try a firm/fast course next! Needless to say, after a "cheater" birdie on the 1st (had a live ghost ball give me a read) which I promptly gave back on the 2nd hole, I knew I was in for a tough test. Getting bird on the par-5 4th was a confidence booster - although if I knew in hindsight it would be my last birdie, I probably would have not felt so good about it! A bogey on 6 and the dreaded double bogey on 7 was the first indication I was in real trouble. I wasn't getting much close to the hole. I had long looks at bird when I was able to get on the green so I was just happy to walk off with pars for the most part. Starting the back nine, I was determined to get it going and go on a run. Unfortunately, that run was made up of bogeys!! After sitting at 5-over on the 13th tee, I knew par for the round was out of the question, the new goal was not to shoot a Par or Bust worst round - which stood at a 4-over 76. That would mean I needed at least one birdie in the last 6 holes. As the picture below can attest - that was not in the cards today. The 18 foot birdie putt on the 18th was the closest I would come to making one, coming just short of catching the lip. Spanish Oaks is a difficult test that falls in line with Son Gual from Q-School. Plenty of room on the greens to accept your approach shot, but what it does with the next 10-12 yards of roll is all in the hands of the course!

I knew Spanish Oaks would get ya! I really like that course and it's a great future tour course.

Good stuff. Just joined a no aids tour and really enjoyed it. Hopefully this site will get an official no aids tour as well. I get a better feeling shooting 69 with no aids than shooting 59 with. I agree. I find it more rewarding, more frustrating, more tension - more like golf really. If there was a choice for side by side comps, I would choose no-aids. But this means more work for all in the background and a splintering of the comps... so I doubt it will ever happen

Are you not going to be doing these anymore Scott? Just wondering if you do carry on with the series that you show Growling Frog some live and play under these conditions there. Not much in the way of blind shots and the greens are not overly challenging. I suggest the Thursday version or the Sunday for more of a challenge. Peace out and thanks

Hi Rod, I haven't had much time as I spent most of my free time (that wasn't spent admin'ing TGCT) getting my game back after losing my #1 ranking. Starting to come around again so hopefully after the Masters I'll be back in full swing with Par or Bust.

e14 - The Capilano Club (1-under, 71)Real nice track just released by CrazyCanuck - I didn't have much time to admire the beauty as I was a bit rusty coming of a 3-month Par or Bust hiatus. Bit of a side project going with the ever growing beast that is TGC Tours We back to this edition - no real shots stick out as highlights. It was just a solid course that forced safe shots and smart putts. Managed to squeak one bird out of the F9 then got it to 3-under after 14. I remember thinking that I might go pretty low if I keep this up - of course as soon as that thought enters my mind I go out and shoot back to back bogies. A pair of pars ended the round - had a relatively uneventful 18th and managed to make a tap in for par to stay at 1-under.

Doyley, any chance of you possibly playing a few comps on RGT your still a member, obviously I know time for yourself is an issue, well played by the way.

e15 - Wildfire Ridge Golf Club (3-over, 75)This was a tough test let me tell you! The greens were deceptively difficult with no grids. Even some gimmies eluded me! An early bird did not signal things to come. I wouldn't see another until the 16th (more on that hole below). Strung 3 straight bogies on 6, 7 and 8. Poor putting, a 90% shot (my fault) and another putter fail were the reasons for the red on the scorecard. The back nine start much better. Never like to bogey a par 5 and I did it twice on this nine. Back to back bogies put me at 4-over and it seemed there was no chance at making par. But then we stepped onto the 16th tee with a mission. Faced with a 270 yard par 4 with a green surrounded by water - we decided to fight our battles on the 18th and played it safe - technically - as I missed the fairway and ended up in the deep rough but a short chip later and bird was on the card. Next up, 17. Playing 199 yards down hill - the pressure was on. Tee shot is in the air, looks good, line is on - lands on the front of the green and rolls. I'm 200 yards away, can't really tell where it is ending up. As I get up to my ball I'm a short tap-in away for bird. Had to go back and watch that replay - and it was as close to an ace as I can remember on Par or Bust. Really could have used that extra stroke! Off to 18 - a relatively short par 5 with the wind at my back. After a 300 yard drive I'm left with 245 to a back pin on a green protected by water pretty much entirely between my golfer and the green. Decided to take the 5w out and go for eagle. Perfect shot needed...and I hit a squeaker that bleeds left and into the water. Club had the distance if I hit it straight...oh what could have been! Stickhandled after the drop for another bogey. Great track - greens are unforgiving with no grids!

I always want to get in those rounds but rarely have the spare time to play - and when I do, it slips my mind (like tonight). I'll try and make more of an effort to get them in. It's a great tour and one that I really enjoy playing.

I'm going to do my first Par or Bust tour - or at least attempt to!
4 rounds at Royal Ballylough on 4 different pinsets - same Par or Bust rules apply (at least for me).
Search Par or Bust - Tour in Play Tour section
If you want to play as I do 1. Turn off aiming reticule 2. Turn off Follow Cam (but never use it manually either - watch all shots until completion from your golfers perspective) 3. No Scout Cam use until you are on the green

Will try and get the recap posted tomorrow - too late to do it now - but I was successful in winds that I had pegged at 15mph, 17mph, 8 mph, 13 mph. Finished 4-under for the Tour.
