Turn off the wind speed and you'll see scores rise.

No point in taking club selection off. Everybody knows what club to use. Just time consuming having to change club from a putter on every shot.

For me to shoot scores of 3-over to 7-under'ish these are the settings I use - Grids off
- Wind indicator off
- aiming reticule off
- Scout Cam on (for camera on green) but manually not used on course
- Follow cam off (and not used manually - even to watch ball land on green)
- Ghost balls off
With this setup my goal is to always finish under par. Obviously no good for tournaments since half the rules are self-enforced (scout cam, follow cam, ghost balls). Makes for a fun round though since you don't get to see the roll on the gridless greens so reading them becomes much more important. As does the approach shots and keeping tabs on the changing winds.
For me, this is the only way I can get realistic PGA scores.

Rather than moan and complain, here is a little mental trick..... Scoring on TGC is a bit like the metric system. Real Golf is measured in miles... TGC is measured in kilometers i.e. 10 under par in TGC = 6 under par in real life Not quite true. The issue is that we will get a "compression" of the scores where in the end missing a couple putts over 72 holes will instantly put you out of contention and it becomes a game of who got lucky with a couple of hole-outs from the fairway and who consistently made all makable eagles. No chance to catch up after a mistake. We are already seeing this starting to happen as more elite players filter through to the PGA and Euro tours. With a good difficulty balance it should be possible to "get hot" and move up the leader-board. Individual player score variation needs to be quite high. Very difficult to get this balance right though. Maybe the best would be that HB gave us a bunch of sliders and then Matt10 could go to town and give us what we want... As for acceptable score range: -10 to -20 for winning scores and cuts around even. In the opens - winning scores around par, and torture chamber courses.... Also agree that driving accruacy is slightly off, but putt make percentages with the grid are even more off. Grid off or even better an option where only general slope is indicated would remedy this. Also most courses of late are desinged with extremely generous fairways. Of course the current difficulty level still needs to be an option for beginners and casual players.

Doyley, scout cam off is fine as well since you can "decouple" and swing around the putting cam. A bit restrictive, but enough to make a read and may cost you another shot per round (and that is a positive thing). Follow cam and ghost balls are debateable. Cant regulate them on tours either way. Ghost balls are not that unrealistic as you do get reads from you playing partners' putts sometimes IRL as well. Wind indicator off I first thought would be impossible and unfair but find it very realistic as on real courses you dont really "know" the wind as it may be different on tee and green, at altitude etc. There are enough ques that you should not be too far off, but it changes the game dynamics as you cant just cancel it out on the grid and take dead aim towards that tucked pin anymore. Also regulates the fairway % quite nicely as it adds that extra variation. have a couple of videos from yesterdays no assists adventure in below thread: tgctours.proboards.com/thread/1937/assists-problems?page=1&scrollTo=19593

Much more enjoyable option when playing solo. I don't use the scout cam so in effect it's still off when I play - but for tournament play I don't know if I could go an entire tournament with the slow putt cam.

One day we'll find a good mix where a course can play like the US Open. I really would like to see the ability to change the rough a bit. In the US Open they have rough that it is nearly impossible to do anything but hack it out back to the fairway some 20 yards away. Here even with a 50% shot you can advance it some 100 yards. Making hard greens with little or no minor rough or collar, where if you miss you are in the thick stuff of 70-80% would help too. Narrow fairways while easy for some, you find on tour a Drive the fairway might be just 13 yards wide, but a 3iron you are fine. Those choices make golf fun. Big dog-legs where you can do your risk/reward for cutting the edge or not. Finally, yes the winds. We get designers who are able to create 10-20mph winds for the rounds it would be awesome. Of course the best is the way Lion's Gate is setup. Four rounds, different tees, different winds, different pins, different yardage. That has been a whole lot of fun to practice.

Agree 100% that a "scout cam only available when ball on green" option would be the optimal solution.

I don't use the scout cam so in effect it's still off when I play - but for tournament play I don't know if I could go an entire tournament with the slow putt cam. That's what I liked about TW08 (PC) where you could adjust the speed in which the cameras panned. I also enforce my tourney play with no scout cam. Honestly, I still stand firm on the no scout cam and club selection. I think it introduces blind shots and respects elevation changes. Versus zooming in, picking a club, zooming in, picking a club. There is a sense of uncertainty that is exciting once the shot is hit when the scout cam is not used. If you think about it, you're basically using 2 aiming points that no real golfer even has. They can't be perfectly aligned and have to use whatever method of aiming (I use a spot 5 inches in front of the ball IRL) and then they can't teleport to the landing area to see what little treats the course designer might have placed, unless they've played the course in practice rounds. I just think this is another way to respect the course designers throughout, and play the game how it should have originally been built. Yes, it won't appease the entire masses - but if you put it to a vote, I'm confident no one would be completely against it. Even the top players.

However Matt, it is a bit annoying having to cycle from driver for every shot. Getting the club selected based on only distance to hole would be a compromise I think (Isn't this what the "club only" option is doing?). Same for putting. Default aim marker should be 1-2 feet behind hole for all putts so that no adjustment needed for tap ins as it is only tedious to have to do that.

Well, the shot type is also predefined. It's not a big deal to me, as it mimics a caddie more than anything.

An interesting observation ..... we see consider scoring -10 consistently as being a high end player. In Tiger Woods, it was -20. The high end has been cut in half but it's still not good enough? I believe that's pretty damn good, this IS a video game.

Better players will figure it out... that's why they are better players lol. The answer for me is simple, if I want to compete, I need to play better than I have of late.
