What exactly do you people want? The OP said "My city's gone to hell..." (his words not mine) because of #1 high property values lol. You all want free handouts? You want to live in a mansion but not work for it? Come live in Detroit or Baltimore or Houston or Oakland or south side Chicago if you want to live cheaply and not work. What, it's not fair you can't afford a $650k house? I bet you're not a doctor or lawyer or engineer saying that nonsense. I now have such a clear picture of how you people think. Truly frightening what comes out of your brains.

How about get a better job so you can afford fair market value? Holy sh!t. I just really don't get WTF you people want, some utopia where a welfare mom can live like a CEO. All you socialist commies deserve to live in 500 sq ft concrete sky rise buildings surrounded by crap. I'd like to see this person on welfare living like a CEO. The CEO of what company.... and who is the welfare person? I want to see. Please show me this person.

Not a clue mate, you’d have to ask the socialist commies, it doesn’t happen in my world, as you’d expect. They seem to dream of some utopia where everyone lives equally prominent despite their career/skills.

Vancouver: Median house price is 22 times median household income. Detroit: Median house price is 2.3 times median household income.
Yeah, we’re all commies here in Vancouver cuz we complain about the cost of housing.

Free market economy, if the Vancouver house wasn't worth $650k then it wouldn't have sold for that value, it's really not that difficult to understand (or maybe it is for you?). Get a better job if you can't afford the cost of real estate or adjust your expectations accordingly (find somewhere cheaper to live that suits your income?). No, it's far easier to complain about it then do something about it. The Doctor or Engineer who purchased that property isn't complaining, only the lowest common denominator complains. You want free handouts? Successful people should pay for your housing? What do you people want exactly, please tell me.
You really want to compare Detroit to Vancouver? Wow. You should visit some time, I've heard it's quaint and charming and very hipster.

So, there is an economic system that forces people to move from their communities, and you think that's a good thing. When people cannot afford rent in their own community, that's a good thing. When people have to spend more time commuting and less time with their families because they cannot afford to live close to work, that's a good thing. I think we all get how it works. We just disagree that this is the best we can do.

We just disagree that this is the best we can do. Buy low sell high mate. I purchased my house at a very affordable price and it’s value has increased 250% since. I could not afford to rebuy my same house today, but that’s the beauty of it, I don’t have to rebuy it because I already own it so I get to stay in my community and watch my equity keep climbing and climbing when new buyers who can afford a $500-$1M home. I win. My community wins and prospers and didn’t “go to hell”. Of course section 8 housing exists in areas to help people out, and I haven’t a clue what to tell you about increasing rent prices, I haven’t rented since college because I was able to purchase homes and sell them for a profit and buy a bigger, nicer home. Perhaps rent increases could be capped similar to how my property taxes have a max yearly increase? I don’t know...... Other option is to go live some that you can afford, this OP guy just sounds angry because he can’t afford to live where he wants. Sorry but that’s life mate. I wish I could live on my own 300 acre private island on the best fishing lake in the world and have a 6000 sq ft mansion and boathouse to dock my yatch and skii boat and fishing boats but alas I can’t and I deal with it without complaining or demanding that Jeff Bezos (used as in example it President Trump thread) to subsidize my dreams.
