Vancouver used to be a great place to live, but a convergence of issues has now really tainted the city:
1) Housing Costs
Any guess on how much this house sold for recently? Well, try $880,000 CDN (about $650,000 USD)!
2) Money Laundering
According to a report issued here today, it's estimated that $7 billion was laundered in the province of British Columbia just last year alone. Some $5 billion of that in real estate. Casinos are awash in folks showing up with hockey bags stuffed full of $20 and $50 dollar bills -- no questions asked. Luxury car dealers are accepting shopping bags stuffed with bills -- one dealer recently accepted a cash purchase totaling $250,000. Again, no questions asked.
3) Insane Gas Prices That's $1.71 a liter. Converted to gallons, it's CDN $6.84 per gallon ($5.05 USD) Vancouver has the highest gas prices in North America by a long shot.
4) Misc.
Throw in the opioid crisis, gang shootings, and a bunch of other crap, and..... well, not a great place to be anymore.
Rant over.

At least your hockey team still has a couple seasons left until they're possible contenders again, so you're able to leave riots off the list for now.
I've known a few people that moved to BC and while they all loved it there almost all have moved back to Ontario because they just can't afford to live there.

Similar fuel prices here in Australia. Costs me $90-100 to fill my car, I get about 600km out of a tank.

Now, many who were born and raised here are doing the same -- moving elsewhere because there's nothing here to look forward to. Just so very sad.

One dealership was interviewed the other day... had 40 orders to fill, wiped out his inventory. Unfortunately, we just had a hike in electricity rates, and I'll bet my paycheck that as demand for electricity surges (no pun intended), so will the rates.

It's good to see pertol prices going up, the world populace needs a kick up the arse to get out and consider buying an electric vehicle.

It's good to see pertol prices going up, the world populace needs a kick up the arse to get out and consider buying an electric vehicle. I agree with the sentiment, but possibly not the "reality..." By far the most obvious hand-in-hand solution to fuel price hikes is free/cheap (and widespread and effective!) public transportation. This isn't likely anywhere and DEFINITELY not in America! Punishing poor and working people with fuel hikes is regressive. I don't see a solution; it's a cluster-fk...

I've been to Vancouver, loved it. Real shame to hear all this. Property prices in the world's biggest cities is an ongoing crisis. It's gone from punishing poor people to pretty much punishing everyone now.
I plan to move back up to the north of the UK in a couple of years; it used to be much cheaper up north, but even there it's massively on the rise now...

I think all private vehicles should be banned from inner cities unless they're commercial or industrial vehicles. Public transport should be promoted as an alternative to fuel burning.

I'm onboard with the inner city bans, for sure. But I think my point still stands. Even within cities, it is very expensive, and beyond that I was more meaning people who need to drive longer distances. In the UK, and to an exponential degree in the US, infrastructure is not good and massively overpriced. Especially if you need to use more that one type of transportation. So my point was, yes, promote public transport, but the investment needs to be made AND then made cheaper for users. And I can't see it happening; so meanwhile, fuel price hikes are regressive and hurt the lower working classes.

Oh my God, just when I thought I've heard it all in the "Trump" thread I read this. WTF do you want exactly, come to Detroit some time and see how the lowest common denominator lives in the ghetto, you could pick up a similar piece of property for well under $20k. Hell, 10 years ago they were giving those types of homes away for back taxes. You can't have your cake and eat it too. (I'll be called a bigot and racist I'm sure lol)

How about get a better job so you can afford fair market value? Holy sh!t. I just really don't get WTF you people want, some utopia where a welfare mom can live like a CEO. All you socialist commies deserve to live in 500 sq ft concrete sky rise buildings surrounded by crap.
