What if we have never been able to be in the zone/hit it straight mode? What if has always been a complete mess. Fun for a lot of people, but not all.

What if we have never been able to be in the zone/hit it straight mode? What if has always been a complete mess. Fun for a lot of people, but not all. Dan, I am sure you have tried lots of things. Nobody with tour clubs can just pick up the controller, look at the screen and have at it. Its almost like "addressing the ball" in real golf. Hold the controller...is it at the correct angle? Place your thumb on the thumb stick. Is my thumb centered on the back end of the thumbstick (if slicing move right thumb to the right of center slightly, if hooking, move it left of center slightly). Am I seated correctly so that my arm is not restricted in any way? Am I holding the controller at a natural height and angle front to back? Am I just resting the thumb on the stick or am I pushing down on the stick some (as in pushing like you would for an R3 push) as pushing down does really bad things to make a hook/slice. Is my hand or thumb tense? If so, Breathe!! Now on the backswing, is it at a moderate pace? If not let go start over. Is it at a moderate pace and moving directly toward my white pen mark? If not stop and start again. Now I am approaching the top of the swing...look at the screen...am I within the shot in my mind. If not stop and start again. On the downswing, same pace as the back swing and don't push all the way forward, just start it that way (unfortunately there is no stop at this point).
I would say that I start and stop at least twice and sometimes up to 6 times on every drive. Close to the same amount on approaches. Chips and pitches, probably 2 or 3 start overs.
The days from TGC1 where you grab the controller, and swing without really thinking are gone. I used to play my rounds in about 25 minutes on TGC1. On TGC2, with tour clubs it takes 45 minutes at least. With player clubs about 30 minutes.

I appreciate your response Michael. I sounded like a complete arse just then, im sorry.
I understand hard work is needed and i would be willing to try if i had that one glimmer of hope that could kick start me.

Practicing the "don't follow through" method and i have noticed a difference. It takes a lot of concentration to not actually push through. It still produces bad shots e.g. slow downswings but that's all down to me i guess.
Edit: Still following through with my swing but not quite as vigorous as before.
All with tour clubs btw.

Glad to hear it. I came upon that method of not following through by accident...then found that others also found that to be helpful and they discovered it by accident as well. Another thing that I realized is that natural movement of your thumb is not up and down (12pm to 6pm and back). So I held the controller in my hands as I normally did. I took my thumb off the stick and moved my thumb back and forth in its natural way, and I noticed it was moving from say 10pm to 4pm or something like that instead of 12 and 6. So, I started holding the controller so it is cocked such that my natural thumb movement off the stick looks like it went close to center top of the controller to bottom center (i.e. for a right hander the controller will be cocked to the right a good bit). Using my thumb's natural directional movement helped me to get more consistent not only directionally, but with the "partial' follow through. Again not trying to say you should do what I do, but I figure saying these things might spur you to have an idea that you find works for you.

Thanks for the reply. It's strange because i go from not finding the cone and crappy tempo issues to finding the cone ALL THE TIME and not as many tempo issues, although they still exist but i can feel it when it all goes wrong. I also rolled back my GPU driver.... I shot -11 at Faxon Park just a moment ago. Not a terrific score by no means but when you consider where i was a day ago then it's like i have climbed Mt. Everest. Probably won't last long so ill make the most of it.

Hitting it all over the shop currently. No consistency with shot direction player clubs is the answer. Not sure how many times I’ve said this to people. You can still shoot low with them without the cone issues

It’s not the length it’s what you do with it. Or so I’m told.

Just shot an awful round of 75(+3).
Only two birdies and they came at the last two holes.

These are my rounds since the 7th of May:
Faxon Park Golf Club 61 (-11) Little Brook Manor 55 (-15) The Goldfinch Club 62 (-10) The Links at Royal Atlantic 67 (-6) Victory Village 65 (-7) The Links at Calluna Meadows 75 (+3) The Tarantula Golf Club 66 (-6) Black Brook Golf Club 58 (-14)
Yes...they are official courses but i didn't want to jump into harder courses straight where Tour clubs will really punish me.

You can still shoot low with them without the cone issues You can shoot low with Standard clubs if you adjust your game to accommodate the run out. The short game and putting seems to be identical between all three sets and that ultimately is what separates the good from the not so good players.
