Quick Update
I've been doing some more work on this behind the scenes, and if I didn't indicate earlier, I will be going with a series of head-to-head matchups rather than a single 16-person field contest. I am squaring away a few things before I post an official thread for the contest, but I will go over some of the particulars here just to provide an overview of how I see this going:
The Contest - Pick a real life course, preferably a classic design, and preferably one that doesn't otherwise have enough data to create an accurate RCR, and create your best impression of it or spin on it. For inspiration, see joegolferg's Greenbrier CC and The Heritage courses, inspired by TPC Old White and Harbour Town, respectively.
You will be matched head-to-head against another designer, who will be designing a course around a similar theme, such as San Francisco area classic courses, or East Coast Seth Raynor designs. The winning course will most embody the look, vibe, and/or design principles of the original course, with extra weight (tentatively) for particularly excelling in any one area.
The winner will also be invited back, if desired, to participate in another matchup at a later date against another winner in a special "Design Masters" matchup. The losing designer can feel free to re-enter the pool at a later date, pending availability, and potentially get another matchup against a new challenger.
Timeline - I am looking to get started in the next few weeks, with a tentative start date for the first matchup on May 14th. The design window will be 8-10 weeks, with 8 being the earliest you can publish and 10 being the deadline for publishing. Once the design window for the first matchup starts, the second matchup will begin 6 weeks later, so there is a slight overlap, ensuring we get two brand new courses every 6 weeks or so.
1st Matchup - I have reached out privately to a few people who have expressed interest and are not participating in the Survivor Contest, and I already have one contestant penciled in. As the first participant, that designer received first choice, and has selected Gozzer Ranch. I am now seeking a competitor for this first matchup. I am going to create a new reply right after this post for 1st matchup details.

1st Matchup As stated in the previous post, I am looking to begin the first matchup on or around May 14th, with an 8-10 week design window. One participant has been penciled in, and has selected Gozzer Ranch as his inspiration course. I am seeking a competitor for this matchup, and I have presented below some course options which I believe fit the matchup theme. I am willing to hear any pitches for any other courses not listed to see if they make sense and fit the theme. Best Fits Hudson National - Another Tom Fazio course like Gozzer, and another spectacular site like Gozzer. The downside of this one is that it's a very different region than Gozzer. Rock Creek Cattle Company - A Tom Doak course in Idaho. A slightly different type of site, and a much different design philosophy, but a close tie-in to that region of the US. Reasonable Fits Ballyneal - Another Tom Doak course in Eastern Colorado. It's a similar region to Gozzer, although a little farther away, with a stark landscape. Colorado GC - A Coore and Crenshaw, with a similar type of landscape to Ballyneal. Stretch Fits Castle Pines - Continuing the Colorado theme, this course actually probably fits the topography of Gozzer a little more closely than the other Colorado courses above. This is the old host of the stableford tournament on the PGA Tour, and has been included in past golf games, so I am a little less keen to see this in the game than some of the others listed. Cherry Hills - This is a much more traditional design than Gozzer, and is steeped in history, so they don't share much in common other than region. Should none of the above courses be of interest, though, than this one fits the classic design category, and would be great to have in the game. The Broadmoor (East) - I probably know the least about this course. It seems to be some sort of mix of Donald Ross holes and Robert Trent Jones Sr holes. It has a high rating, and is hosting the US Senior Open (I think this year). The design seems much closer to Cherry Hills than Gozzer, so this is strictly a regional match. Suggestions I don't know the Idaho or Montana areas very well for golf, so I may be missing some in the area, but Colorado sticks out to me as having some of the better golf in the region. Feel free, if interested in this matchup date, to suggest any others.

Feel free, if interested in this matchup date, to suggest any others. I was stationed in Colorado Springs for MANY years and lived in Highlands Ranch for a spell during that time as well. If looking for Colorado courses that fit the original style I would look at The Club at Garden Of The Gods (Kissing Camels), Redlands Mesa, Sanctuary, and Fossil Trace (the last 3 are pretty amazing Jim Engh designs). Bully Pulpit in North Dakota could be a good match as well. Old Works is the only course I'm really familiar with in Montana, but it's a doozy. Not trying to hijack your thread here, just offering up some suggestions in an area where I have played A LOT of golf.

I love this idea, and would happily participate in a later matchup, Hoping to oneday see a matchup of something in the south (Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana). But I will research any course to make the most of it. Hoping to put out TPC Southwind soon as well, seeing as it has been hand picked to host a WGC Event in 2019.

Here's a list of every course that I listed in the Alternatives. Please add any others you would like to see, along with any potential matchups I have overlooked. I think I have an OK idea of how to go about choosing the final courses, and I will create a spinoff thread for that. For now this is strictly for brainstorming. Misc/Alternative CoursesBandon Dunes Pacific Dunes Bandon Trails Old MacDonald San Francisco Golf Club Cypress Point Cal Club Aronimink Seminole Essex County Club Friar's Head Camargo Club Yale Prairie Dunes Forsgate CC in the match up with the MacRaynor courses? To give Banks some representation.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I think it's apparent that we could discuss for days on end any of the hundreds of courses that would be great to emulate in the game. To keep things focused for now, though, I would like to try and stick to finding a competitor for this 1st matchup, and a suitable course to use to go up against Gozzer. I will look into some of the suggestions made by @griff in case any potential competitor doesn't want to use one of the courses that I listed.
Once the 1st matchup is underway, thereby solidifying the start date of the 2nd matchup, I will open up speculation on what that theme should be and what courses can be selected.

I have reached out privately to a few people, but definitely respond here if interested. I am always willing to negotiate within reason on a start date or a course selection.

I’d be interested... specifically in Bluejack National, or if you were to introduce an Ohio matchup
I’m on a bit of a tight design schedule so no guarantees I’d be able to make a certain matchup, but it sounds fun!
