Occurred to me while reading the other thread, that good comedy shows are pretty constant. But superb comedy films are getting rarer. Much rarer. Can't think of any in the last few years that would even come close to touching these 3...
1. Life Of Brian 2. Spinal Tap 3. Withnail and I
...and they are all 30 years old!
What have I missed that I *must* watch?

It's all kind of "Crash Comedy" nowadays. This may be funny to watch for one evening (when being drunk or so), but nothing you really remember.
That's my opinion.
So here's my list. As you already said, all of them are pretty old already. Still could laugh my ass off when watching them again.
1.) As Good as It Gets 2.) There's Something About Mary 3.) Dumb & Dumber

El día de la bestia(1995) Underground (1995) Braindead (1992)
Not your standard thigh slapper movies but funny as hell and excellent movies in general.

1.) As Good as It Gets 2.) There's Something About Mary 3.) Dumb & Dumber Dumb and dumber is very funny indeed, but not quite as "cerebral" as the comedy that generally floats my boat. Not the biggest "Carey film" fan in the world either, but I do like the man himself and think he's massively talented. Next film up for me will be As Good As It Gets - cheers for the recommendation - I'll let you know how I found it!

Best of SBC's films for sure! Still not sure it holds a candle to the 3 that I posted.... but watching it twice was not wasted time either

Wow forgot all about that - what memories. The film the term "cult classic" was invented for.... Not sure if I've seen Underground or not - sounds vaguely familiar - think I may need to refresh myself on that one. I have see "A Serbian Film" tho! A topic for another thread Certainly haven't watched no.1 - will go and see if I can find it in the bins - cheers for the recommendation!

Love Spinal Tap! Life of brian too. Will check no. 3 someday. It's timeless, so watch it whenever you feel ready But don't leave it too long tho - it's not one to get to Pearly Gates and say you never got round to it. I've heard St. Peter is a bit of a comedy snob and takes a dim view of anyone missing "the classics"...

1. The Other Guys 2. Dodgeball 3. Talladega Nights Dodgeball I found amusing for sure, but really didn't connect at any deep level, like the ones I mention at the top. Those can be watched 10 times and you still catch things you missed the 9th time. Not sure the same could be said about Dodgeball. I can't see myself greatly enjoying "The Other Guys" looking at the imdb description - but I *will* give it a watch and let you know how I get on. Sometimes life surprises you Cheers for recommendation.

1. My Cousin Vinny 2 Planes, Trains and Automobiles
Those are facts. After that, it's up for debate...
3. Young Frankenstein or Tommy Boy

You haven't seen "As Good As It Gets" yet? That's truly a knowledge gap! I'm pretty sure you'll like it... Jack Nicholson in top form!

1. My Cousin Vinny 2 Planes, Trains and Automobiles Those are facts. After that, it's up for debate... 3. Young Frankenstein or Tommy Boy Agree with fact 2! Two very very very talented comedians. Reminds me about Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid - perhaps Martin's finest moment on film. Think I might have a blind spot for no.1 - just cannot see Joe Peschi as anything but a head crushing sweary mother@!$#ing gansta. I may have to rewatch to see if I see it differently with age... Tommy Boy looks like it might be a quirky classic - gonna give that a run out at some point - cheers.
