Damn....good question, matt. When you publish and post your course in the contest thread (that is forthcoming), give the tee and pin set that you want the judges to play. Frankly, I think the mark of a good course is one that gives you a great amount of flexibility in how it plays. The old adage of take pity on weaker golfers and be as mean as you like with the talented ones. That being said, asking the judges to play multiple tee boxes would be a bit much. Perhaps give the judges the flexibility to choose the tees/pins they prefer within a suggested range by the author? That's a good point, but I feel like each of you will have one tee set and pin set that you feel represents your course the very best. Given that it's likely we'll have 32 designers in the competition it's just too much to play every tee/pin set in a reasonable amount of time. example: my current wip has 5 tees and 4 pins. the course was "built" for the gold tees with pin set 1 even though all play well. Give the judges what you think is the best setup for your course.

I'm sure these things will work themselves out eventually, but my current course plays better from different teeboxes depending on the swing you're using. The tips are designed around using the tour swing, and the shorter tees are more based around the standard and player swings. If the judges are using different swings, they could have vastly different opinions. I'd probably end up choosing a middle tee box anyways, but it's something to think about.

With it being a competition geared towards CC level players I would make it optimal for Player clubs.

That's something that you need to design for. Three different players using three different club sets will all have to play the same tees when playing on the same tour.

Unless I miscounted, which I probably did, I think we have 21 people in the field right now, correct?

Not sure about competing vs maybe judging...grrr. Definitely judge. I definitely think staying out of the competition and not being a contestant and judging is the right move for you. pablo I haven't forgotten about you, I'm just working on a comeback.
