Let's get ready to rumbleeeeeeee!!!!!
It's that time again. This is getting started up a little later than last year as we have been waiting on the new game, but since we're diving into TGC2 headfirst it seems like a good time to break out the Showdown and let the designers show off their skills.
Same as last year, fellas...this is a 1v1 battle to the crown. Unlike the Invicta, I will not be doing seedings for the Showdown. This is Wild West style, baby...luck of the draw! For those unfamiliar with the format, all entries will be placed into a pool. There are 4 brackets (with a max of 8 designers per bracket). A random draw determines who goes into which bracket. It is then a head to head contest as we advance through the brackets until we reach one course that stands above all others.
The Particulars
- Registration is open now until 8 am (CST) on July 14. The field will have a max of 32 designers and is on a first come basis.
- Courses are due at 12 pm (CST) on August 31, 2017. That's just shy of 2 months of design time, so should allow for ample time for you guys to get a good course out.
- Courses are targeted for the CC Tour. That being said, (unlike last year) we now have CCPro and CCAm. Pro courses are going to be close to Web difficulty while Am courses are going to be more on the easy side. That gives you all a pretty wide range of difficulty possibilities, but also allows you to design without having to be overly concerned with "is this too hard or too easy". However, if you submit a course that is obviously a PGA level difficulty course it will likely hurt you in the judging. The main criteria in judging will be (including but not limited to) aesthetics, playability, attention to detail, and who pulls it all together the best.
- I am willing to allow fresh WIPS this time around, however, NO COURSES OR WIPS IMPORTED FROM TGC1 ARE ALLOWED. Betas are allowed, but please keep them on the downlow.
- I will be handling judging a little differently this time around, and will personally have more to do with the results than I have in the time past. I will outline the judging details as we get closer to the due date. The Finals will not be decided by public vote this year. We will have a "public choice" award, but the Champ will be decided by the judges. Judging should move much faster this time around with what I have in mind, so it's not going to be a month long judging process.
- A cash prize of $150 (USD) will awarded to the overall champ (paid via mail or paypal...your choice).
While I encourage the banter between rival designers, I want to avoid some of the nonsense we have had in past contests. You may not agree with all decisions, but please be adult about it. This is meant to be a way for you guys to get your courses in the spotlight, and it's a way to give the community some great new courses to play. Let's not take away from that with behavior and arguments that demean the process. I can promise that the judging will be much more consistent this time around.
Anyways...let's spread the word and get cranking on some courses, guys. Sign up in this thread and show us what you got!
