I'll give this a shot!
Considering aesthetics and attention to detail is two of the criteria listed, not sure I am going to win, but at least I can guarantee a fun and interesting test for CC players under playability.

Gives me a good excuse to put what I've learned to use. Count me in.

Question: Considering multiple tees can now be used for one course, will you be judging the course from the tees furthest back or one we recommend so that we could have an additional set further back if we wanted it for a more difficult test outside the contest?

I'll give this a shot! Considering aesthetics and attention to detail is two of the criteria listed, not sure I am going to win, but at least I can guarantee a fun and interesting test for CC players under playability. I'm not sure I've seen you lacking on the attention to detail part, and I feel the need to explain aesthetics now that you bring it up. Guys, when talking about aesthetics (the looks of the course), that doesn't mean planted to the gills. Some of the best courses I have played have been very minimalistic. The idea is to make sure that the "look" of your course fits the style and the way it plays. Like, if you stick a boat in the middle of a fairway and expect us to play over it or on it, you're probably going to lose some points. If you stick a bunch of bears or kangaroos on a teebox, you're probably going to lose points. Have a vision/concept and stick to it. Just make sure that your sculpting and planting fits that concept and makes sense to the player's eyes. Think in terms of framing your holes in a way that gives the hole character and is interesting to the eyeballs. That doesn't mean you have to use an abundant amount flowers, rocks, waterfalls (*shudder*), etc...it means make your look make sense.

Damn....good question, matt. When you publish and post your course in the contest thread (that is forthcoming), give the tee and pin set that you want the judges to play.

Aren't waterfalls, tv towers and floating trees mandatory? Plus kangaroos ... and whales.

@griff
Any limitations on themes? I recall last year we were put in brackets based on which theme we chose.

Damn....good question, matt. When you publish and post your course in the contest thread (that is forthcoming), give the tee and pin set that you want the judges to play. Frankly, I think the mark of a good course is one that gives you a great amount of flexibility in how it plays. The old adage of take pity on weaker golfers and be as mean as you like with the talented ones. That being said, asking the judges to play multiple tee boxes would be a bit much. Perhaps give the judges the flexibility to choose the tees/pins they prefer within a suggested range by the author?

@griff Any limitations on themes? I recall last year we were put in brackets based on which theme we chose. No limitations on themes this year. My opinion is that theme brackets was a bit unfair in the final judging. Desert is a theme that people either love or hate. In hindsight, it was unfair that somebody had to work in that theme if wasn't a theme that they had a lot of confidence/experience in. I would much prefer a designer take a concept of their choosing and do it to the best of their ability. Forcing theme limits the creativity of the individual, so it's a free-for-all this go round.
