Well, finally I decided to start my go in the sunny Georgia.
A couple of silly putts missed had me standing at +2 early in my round (wasting the 2nd is never good business). Fortunately my friend came to help me, and birdies for #8 and #9 had my at even par sitting in the 10th hole. I love that hole, it's awesome. But my right thumb keeps thinking the best tee shot there is a slight slice. The rough in Augus... Magnolia is not too penal, so I could save my par there and in the 11th (Going for the center of the green here is not too brave, but it avoids bogeys). That start of the back nine kept me confident that I might shoot a good round. But there I was, standing in the 12th tee. A couple of guys drinking their beers right in my back, cheering for me. The pressure was high, took my club lofted it a bit and shot it. Nice, another slice (In that moment my isp was playing with my connection, the swing was a bit laggy), but the ball landed in the green, around 20ft away. I had a makeable chance of going under par in one of the most famous holes in the world. Obviously, I missed my putt, had a sudden rush of blood to my thumb and sent the ball 20 feet passed the hole. Bogey for me.
Now, the 13th tee. All or nothing. Took my driver and added a touch of draw. Nice shot to the middle of the fairway. Nice distance to go for the green. Even to go for the pin. The wind should take my ball to the left, right to the slope in the middle of the green. And so it did, the ball kept rolling until it stopped 8ft. short of the hole, just a touch of right to left break. Eagle for me, -1 after 13, the round could be saved. Rutinary par in the 14th, and way down to the 15th, again from the middle of the fairway, sent my ball a bit passed the pin, but in a decent range from the pin, my eagle putt stopped 10ft to the right of the pin, leaving me a short uphill putt for birdie. This time I did not miss my chance, so I was in the 16th tee with a not-great-but-nice score of 2 under. With the silly mistakes I made in this round, that score seemed acceptable. From there I got the birdie in the 17th, and parred both 16th and 18th, which granted me a decent 69 for the first round.
Not great, but that's a nice starting point for sure.
Have fun everybody, and good luck!

Just wanted to get this one over with.
Round 1 – 75 Round 2 – 70 Round 3 – 69 Round 4 – 70
Total - 4 under
Round 1 I did myself in by getting pissed off on one hole and I started just hitting the ball all over the green. Shot 4 over for the round. Then decided that maybe I cared a little about how I did on this one and gave it a shot the rest of the way.
Winds in round 4 are brutal. 15 to 18 mph. One par 4 (510 yards) you will have a 16 mph wind right in your face. Green not makeable in 2. But if you play it right, par is still pretty easy.
This will probably be my 2nd strike (this week being my first when it's over) so Red Rock will determine whether or not I stay in C Class or go back down to D where I probably belong anyway.
If I never see this miserable course again it won't be too soon.
Good luck!

For sure it's hard and each one likes and dislikes what he prefers, but the job done by the designer is much better than miserable. And finisihing a four round at this course under par is always a nice effort Wags

It's a comment on how I feel about playing it. In that respect, it's a miserable course any way you look at it and only masochists can possibly enjoy playing such a monstrosity. I'd rather play Q School courses.

I agree with you pablo, this course is a masterpiece. Hope I don't scribble all over it!

I agree with you pablo , this course is a masterpiece. Hope I don't scribble all over it! There is no question the course is very well done. It is just not fun to play. At least I didn't enjoy it. Not when I have a 90 yard pitch shot that lands 3 feet in front of the hole and bounces backwards and rolls down the green leaving me with a 19 foot, 8 inch incline, uphill putt. I can count the holes on less than one hand where you have any prayer of getting anywhere near the pin. Throw in 15 to 18 mph winds and the whole experience is just awful. So as great a course as this is, I never want to have to play it again.

Well, I played my four rounds after all. I will not be playing the masters, that's for sure. But I feel like I've done a great tournament, no matter what the leaderboard says the next saturday. My final score is -14, which in real life would probably give me a green jacket. But this is not real life, this is TGC, and I'm happy with my performance and with the way I managed the shots on the field, despite a couple of silly bogeys in the last round (I lost another couple of caps...). All in all, a very interesting competition.

In PS4 I've seen a few better scores than that. Obviously they can be players of any flight, or even people who play the tour for fun, but I don't see this as a winning score (I think it could be close to an exemption, but I don't know)

Designers don't consider how much wind they can put on the course without causing problems with the background. With all animated items moving in the background because of the extreme wind, there are frame rate issues on any system. This caused several missed putts for me. Because I am a putter who "just gets it to the hole" I finished with a +7 for the round and +6 for the tournament. However this still left me in 11th place on Sunday afternoon believe it or not! I didn't post about last week for some reason but I avoided a strike on the number.
