The fourth and final round, also known as the choke round. Again I find myself in a good position like the previous three weeks, but the wind is up, the course is playing tough and it's so tight for those top five spots that a single mistake will be costly. A high pressure round, recently I could not handle the pressure, is today the day I finally stand up? Or will mistakes come to the fore yet again, let's find out. Back to my usual par start on the first, the wind was going to be a major factor today. The headwind on the second meant the hole played very long. I did find the green but the putt I was left with had horrendous break, to make matters worse, it was downhill. If I did not make birdie, the ball was going to travel and par would be a struggle. I missed and as expected the ball rolled. I was relieved when I managed to make par, for awhile it looked like a dropped shot was going to be the outcome. The third is a must birdie hole,I didn't birdie it, rough from the tee, to rough to bushes, birdie was not really a option then, my first choke of the day. I was lucky enough to have a straight birdie putt on the fourth, getting that first yellow number was important, chances like that have to be taken. A great approach on the fifth brought birdie number two, I needed that as the hole that I struggled during with all week was next. For a second I thought I was going to ace it, the ball looked like it was heading in, to just roll over the edge. Still, I am more than happy to take a birdie there, I would have been happy with par. I followed that with a poor tee shot into the heavy rough, like the third, it's a must birdie hole, like the third I failed to do that. I found myself plugged in a bunker on eight, my bunker shot did not find the green. Chipping is one of the stronger parts of my game and it did not leave me down here. To be honest, I did not expect it to drop, I was well off the green in heavy rough, but in it went. I finished the front nine with a tap in birdie to go five under. A good score for the front nine. I did get lucky at times but luck is needed as well as skill to push for a top five. I was hoping to start the back nine with a birdie like I did the previous rounds, sadly it was not to be, there was a half chance but I could not take it. I got the first birdie of the back nine on the next hole when I put my tee shot to within four feet. The pressure was mounting now, if I could pick up another couple of shots and avoid mistakes, I might find myself in the running for that elusive top five. The golfing gods gifted me another straight putt on twelve, a gift I nearly left unopened when I hit the putt to softly, it just about reached the cup. The wind was in the perfect direction for the thirteenth, I made it harder for myself than I would have liked but birdie was made, finally picking up a shot on a must birdie hole. For the second hole in a row, a poor flop shot gave me a longer putt than should have been, again making life hard for myself but again the putt dropped. Why do I do this to myself, it's bad for the heart. Thankfully it was not the case on fifteen, when a good ninety yard pitch gave me a tap in birdie, ten under. The wind helped on sixteen, the strong tailwind meant the tree I got caught behind yesterday did not come into play. My approach could have been better but I found the green with a good birdie chance which I took. Two to play. The wind did not help on seventeen, it left the tee shot in between clubs. I tried to be clever with a three wood with a lot of deloft, it did not work. I left myself with a longish downhill putt, twenty feet or so. I can't fully remember the distance, all I remember is it creeping in the left side of the cup. Easily the best putt I made over the four rounds, I still can't believe it dropped. A chance of a second sub sixty round in a row, I missed the green on the last, it was a poor shot, I still had a birdie chance with a make able chip in, it stopped just short. I smiled, took par and walked of the course a happy man. What a round, a slow start but once I got going, everything went so well, not dropping any shots was a huge bonus and for once I kept my nerve. 49 under by far my best four round total. Now just have to wait and see where that leaves me on the leaderboard, I really think it will be a top five. Good luck all. Lol I think i know where my luck on the tour has went lately, you borrowed it hehe. At least you are good at chipping, i absolutely hate the chipping on this game. Either it comes up short and leaves me a tricky putt for par or runs past and does the same. I can honestly say, the amount of chip ins ive had in this game i can count on 2 hands on the other side, i am much better at lofted shots though my approach to the par 5 near the end of the front 9 almost had me rage quitting. I was playing good and was trying to recover from the 6th and the approach was inch perfect though sadly tooooo perfect. It hit the flag like a missile and shot backwards and to the left into the rough. It was too short for a lob so tried a chip and it seemed to hit the minor end of the range of power and came way short so got par. My best is -31 so your 4 is a mile ahead of me lol. Goodluck to the 2 of you with your high scores, looks like you both have a shot at top 5.

Good shooting Dan, i was messing with you this morning. I knew you had it with -49. Im sick about the phantom putt on 17 now. Sick about a couple of shots but that one sticks out bc it was right at the end. I never would of thought one shot would cost me a trophy but it looks like it did. Congrats brother, excellent round 4.

Thanks guys but I am not counting my chickens yet, I have been I this position before then woke up Sunday morning to find out someone playing late had beaten me. I know what you mean Chris by thinking about that one shot that might have cost you, there is always a shot that sticks out. I have suffered from the curse of one shot more times than I care to mention. I was convinced the curse was going to get me again this week after reading your post yesterday, it built the tension nicely, well played.

My first time here on exemption, the same thing happened to me. When I played cc-a before I got demoted, I was one shot away from wiping my strikes. I have been one shot away from earning exemptions. It can be a sickener. I have no doubt you will get your chance again and you will make it.

Im actually dreading it lol. If i put this much pressure on myself in the challenge circuit i dont know how ill survive trying to make a web cut. To everyone just missing their goals, stick with it. I started this season in CC-D. My goal was to get a web exemption before the end of the year. So its def possible to move up. Just keep practicing.
