For sure - or even better a gradual scale so there are no cookie cutter conditions to learn...

Just finished my four rounds and came to the following conclusion. I play the game for fun and this tournament simply was not fun for me. When practicing I had some good rounds, some rounds that were okay and some rounds that were pathetic. The problem is even in the rounds where I shot -8 or -9 I realized I still didn't really have any fun. I have no problems with firm greens and the set up was challenging. There were some holes that were unfair in my opinion but I simply played for par in those cases, but it is frustrating when there is a tree in the way of the pin and you can't even play to the center of the green because you can't stop it on the green. Either it runs through or turns around and rolls off the front. In the end, why would you even play for the center when it is easier to go over the pin and have much easier flop/chip. I think for me what made it so unenjoyable was when I would hit what I think was a great shot. It would roll up to the pin and go past a couple yards and stop...or not. The slow roll that followed would put me 40 feet away or off the green. There are still holes that I don't think it is possible to hold anywhere withing 50 feet of the hole. Anyway, in the future if I'm left with a week where I don't like either course and I don't think I'll have fun, I simply won't play. Majors or special tournaments would be the exception. Being competitive is one thing but as I stated I play in these tournaments for fun, and simply put, this was anything but fun. I think i lost interest about 1/2 way through the 2nd round and played speed golf. I think i'll make the cut but whatever. To those who enjoy this type of tournament, have fun! To those who didn't, come join me for a beer. Cheers! I will join you for that beer or two or maybe more

In the last 2 tournaments I've recorded an 8 and a 9 on my scorecard. Nothing gets you down like the ball rolling back to your feet around the green

Agreed on having firmness between hardest and medium. Have at LEAST 2 stops between those.

Disastrous tourney for me..72 67 68 71 (-6) Didn't enjoy this setup at all.lost interest halfway through. a lot of greens impossible to hold again it seemed.. Enough said! Good luck to all of you yet to start your tourneys n well played to those of u managing to shoot low numbers out there! On this course this week, you cant call this tournament golf. It was circus act through and through, i hope the people who pick the courses can give us something to enjoy rather something you have grind and detest at the same time. Boring.

63-64-64-62 for -31. Played beautifully tee to green, putted like Sergio on a bad day - had a spell in Round 2 where i missed 5 putts from within 10ft in 6 holes. Brutal setup, realised just how brutal when i realised i couldn't hold the green with a sand wedge (10mph tailwind playing onto a downslope) and was forced to loft up a 7 iron to 87 yards Looking forward to some more "usual" courses over the next few weeks. Good luck to everyone this week in the meantime You can loft up a 7 iton to 87yds? This game needs a slap.

Let's say you are correct on the firmness being in the Very Firm (100-130) rating BoomBoom and not the (Over 130) Hard and Unrecptive rating, which you may very well be as I enjoyed Lytham and a few others with firm settings, so maybe just maybe the firmness scale is fine. The question then begs why we are playing on a course where the greens slopes and contours don't accept firm conditions. If this course was in real life the maintenance team would not let the course get this firm as there would be golfer outrage. The contours are not there to let it stop on the green on some of the holes.

Maybe thats why i havent won for so long, might have to jump on the bandwagon lol. Driving range here i go!

How authentic this is to real golf. Golf simulator my arse.

Think I had 7 yards to land in, was playing onto a red slope with an 11mph tailwind. Game needs either firm to be less firm and/or wedges/short irons to have a bit more grab. Not holding my breath though

It's so you can land softer on the green and to eliminate some bounce and rollout. I don't do it and I think it's silly as well. I've asked HB numerous times to have it so you can go 1 box either way of loft but don't know if that will ever come to fruition.

Not a slam by any means, but an honest question. I have not looked at the leaderboards for this week and don't know who I am addressing. How many play the loft game and if you don't, how do you score so well in these conditions? I need tips on how to play a course like this and score low. I have played 'real golf' probably longer than many of you have been alive and it doesn't cross my mind to loft a 3 iron up to 147 yds. This is not in the spirit of the great game of golf. If that is the only way to play these firm courses, then maybe we don't need to play the firm courses like this.
I don't want to hear plan your shot better, take more time. I do that, as I do in real life, on the harder shots. One thing I did in the first round is 'double' the roll out yardages and that helped some. The problem with that, was the ball sometimes would hit short of the green and away it went. In the situation this week, picking a spot on the green to land was not pretty either. I will echo "not a fun week" even though I've only played one round and shot -2.
My favorite course in the game is Magnolia National. It is firm, but playable. My opinion is 'you shouldn't go more firm than this great course'.
As always, good luck to all!
