Click for the story version with pretty picture! The Open Championship TGC Tours is pleased to announce Royal Balwearie Golf Club as host of The Open Championship. This masterpiece is the latest from esteemed designer Chris Biggins. This course is published in the Highlands theme but we are not 100% sure the consoles will be updated in time. With that in mind, Biggins has also published a similar course in the Countryside theme called Royal Fleetwood Bay. This course has some minor changes but is pretty much a replica. Our plan is to hold out until the last possible minute to play Royal Balwearie. If the updates aren't out by the time we are ready to publish the event in-game, we'll switch and use Royal Fleetwood Bay. This will be a multi-pin event - those versions will be published shortly.

Just a heads up...The consoles can already play the highlands theme. However, the seperate firmness levels for greens and fairways is probably not updated. And WOW. That picture looks pretty.

It uses assets that are not currently available without the July update, obviously. which xb1 and ps4 don't currently have.
This content is currently unavailable. Look for it in a future update!

This is quite bizarre; to pick a course that the console players can't play and have no firm date when they will be able to play. It just adds to the perceived advantage that PC players have. Holding out until the last possible minute just means PC players can be playing this course all week while console players will be way behind. I have read the thread on TGC site about this course and can understand the desire to use it, but is this choice 100% fair?

Either way it's a stunning course and well worthy of hosting the Open.

It says this on the link

Is Royal Fleetwood Bay not available to play then even though it says its published? To play the highlands theme won't happen as it hasn't even been submitted to Sony/MS yet? According to Anthony Kyne at HB that will be early this week so it will be apprx 2 weeks before console players will even see it.

I just played the Rbet2 beta version on PS4 - and its highland theme alright. The issue is with different firmness or other assets I think?
Either way its a stunning course visually, maybe the most beautiful in game, and a good design. Main defense is the greens - and there may be four interesting placements on each. But after first play through (-3 in 12-15 winds) can't help but think it will be massacred if the open set up is not tightened up significantly. Hope to see a set up at least 4-5 shots more difficult. It does have a bit resemblance to the tour set up of the Shakespeare, especially the greens which I found well designed but not great on first play.
I found that many holes don't really punish going for the pin and going through the green. Most recoveries seem easier after going through the back than missing short. It seems like the best option in many cases is to just blast it at the pin. And hole 12 - is there any circumstance bar a 15mph+ headwind where you don't hit it at the green? Less saftey-net towards the tracks would have been nice to balance the shot values.
This was the beta I played of course - so there may be significant improvement to the set up in the final product and open set ups.

When you announce the course, it has to be the course. From the time you announce it the course needs to be playable by all. A duplicate course in a different theme could have different framerates for people, and thus play differently (ps4 players for example could encounter more 92% swings on countryside than highlands for example). And it can play differently.
Quite frankly, it just doesn't seem right. With 70,000 courses out there, you can't pick one that all people can play right now?
I would have been perfectly happy with you waiting until the day before the tournament started for you to announce the course. But if you want to announce it in advance, then it simply has to be a course universally accessible now.
If you want to use the Highlands version of this course, use it for next years open championship.
People posting neither course is accessible... that makes sense. If either were done with the separate firmness sliders for greens/fairways, they wouldn't be available.
So you are going to have to pick a course that already exists that wasn't created with assets from the most recent pc patch.

Okay, I've republished under the name OpBe - if XBone and PS4 players could check it for me that would be appreciated.
