Played with Brionne today and we had to quit as every hole, every shot the winds were shifting so much (8-12mph) it was impossible to play any type of golf. The winds were constantly changing during ball flight. It was completely unmanageable. I don't think anyone could play competitively when every shot the wind could literally change 90-180 degrees during ball flight.

the game just seems broken to me. i know a lot of it is me being bleddy awful but shots shouldnt be going dead left with a wind that is down and to the right. i also felt like i pushed to the right which made it even more annoying.
the game hates me and why i enter tourneys i dont know.
i just hate not improving at all which is very frustrating.
if only i could mimic the games of the some of the top players who seem to make everything.

After playing some 40 + rounds on this course, all rounds 1-4 here are my thoughts for anyone that cares:
It is a great course under the right conditions. Where it fails is when it comes to high winds + firmness. The course when it was originally published was medium firmness. In high winds there were still 2-3 holes (depending on the winds) you couldn't reach in two but this was offset by the ability to hold the greens on those holes where you had a tail wind. Like many courses the designer "tweaked" it by firming up the greens and tucking away the pins. On the surface this is not a bad change and if the winds are in the single digits it is a fair test of skill. There are many tee shots that require perfect placement and like most US Opens if you miss the fairway you have a very small portion of the first cut of rough before you end up in the cabbage patch.
While I understand that the course designer cannot set winds, and that is something I hope the developers change, I find it unfortunate that we are at the mercy of how the winds will be when the course is published. I have published the course 5 times in 5 days and have gotten everything from an even distribution of high to low winds to 3 days of 18mph+ winds. This course was never designed to play in those types of winds with the firmness of the greens in rounds 1, 3, 4. Over the course of the last week or so I have played 8 top 20 players in a variety of conditions and as expected the winds really do effect their overall score, but as it reaches above 12mph the difference becomes MUCH more skewed. In 4-13mph round one these folks were shooting -2 to -8. Above 14mph the average dropped to -1 over 8 plays. Following the ghost of other players in the top 30 the trend seems to be the same, above 12-14mph winds the scores drop dramatically and that is with those in the top 30, I cringe to see what those outside are doing.
So my point, cause i'm sure many of you think I'm whining by now... With the fact that the wind will now be universal for everyone, "toughening up" courses by firming the greens up on a course that isn't designed for it no longer becomes a fair way of doing things. While I understand the desire to make the US Open as challenging as possible as it is in rl, i hope this trend does not continue into future tournaments. Elmview is a very good course but it was simply not designed to take into account high winds over 14+ mph, well it was until it was firmed up. An example of this is hole #10. A nine iron, shooting 130 yards with a 18mph tail wind, lofted up a grid, hits the front of the green and rolls 10 yards off the back, simply is not realistic (that was round 4 fyi). On medium firmness it would have stopped on the green.
In the end we can hope for manageable winds for the US Open. If we get lucky and the winds are never above 13-14mph, it should be a reasonably fair test of golf. If the winds go above this on any of the rounds 1, 3, 4, it will quickly turn into an effort of frustration for many. Personally I don't mind higher winds but the course should be able to handle them. When you have a course that even with the sloped fronts or rough before the green, that require a shot within a 3 yard square area to even stay on the green, then to me that becomes an unfair test to even the best golfers. I guess we'll see what happens.

I'm struggling in my practice rounds here. Seems like I'm short of the green bouncing back into a trap, or hitting below the hole and bouncing/rolling to the back fringe or rough. I don't know how you hold the greens on about half the holes. I'm chipping 14 of the 18 holes. How are others shooting so low? I can tell you honestly, I had exactely the same problems in the beginning. My GIR was 10% maybe, just aweful. But it was getting better and better. Started with a 76, then managed Even after that... and now my personal best is -3 so far. Just started a round an hour ago and was already -3 after Hole #7. That doesn't mean I couldn't play an 80 or so if I'm not totally concentrated, because this course has definitely some teeth... but it is makeable!

my best so far is -6. Every time you feel like there are another couple strokes there for the taking...but getting them takes luck AND practice.

I don't think anyone could play competitively when every shot the wind could literally change 90-180 degrees during ball flight. While it does need to be toned down a bit I found myself liking the swirling on Dovetail. Constant high winds are not that common IRL - and golf in gusty weather does exist. Would be great to have some rounds where the wind is unpredictable as it rewards proper positioning and thinking which makes the game more realistic. Played a qualifier IRL this week with gusty weather where I had two lost shots from the wind either dying or picking up during the shot and giving me nasty bunker lies. Cost me a chance to move on to next stage. But that is golf. That is actually in many ways the absolute core of golf. Golf is not a "fair" game. Would not mind if this video game would mimic that just a bit more as it is already doing a decent job. There needs to be some variance - otherwise the videogame loses all resemblance of the game it is trying to portray and is reduced to a measure of who can move a stick up and down the most times without falling asleep. IMO we need more variance, not less.

Played first two tourney rounds and was able to hit most greens albeit leaving long putts. Wind was nothing to worry about however putting on this course is the key, pisses me off to see an 8" straight as you like putt go sailing passed due to invisible undulations, gonna be a tough one....

I tend to get the putting camera out when it is saying it is straight. It is alot easier to tell the break with the grid there than when it isnt.
