Hi all,
I've heard rumors that the new game could be coming out in August and I noticed that design contests are on-hold for now. I have a few courses in the early design phase, but I'm not sure I want to put any more effort into them if the new game is coming soon.
Any other designers in the same boat? Think we'll be able to transfer unpublished courses over to the new game?
Thanks,
MEIKA94

Nevermind. Just read CrazyCanuck's tweet. Looking like a late fall or early 2023 release now...

Either way, if the game is out in August or next year, you'll likely be able to transfer courses from PGA 2K21 to 2K23. This was able to be done from the old game to the new game in each iteration of the TGC/2K golf series.
The only thing is, the courses can only be transferred from the old game to the new one if they were published in the old game. Basically, in order to get a course you're designing from PGA 2K21 into the upcoming 2K23, it would need to be published first in 2K21.
EDIT - sounds like this may be only in relation to console designers like me. If you're on PC, it appears you can bring course files from the old game to any new game, as long as the engine stays the same.

I guess it depends on the engine they use. They would be crazy to not have a porting option, but it might be out of our hands.

Yeah, that'd be a real bummer if porting wasn't an option. Once the new game is released, I see my unpublished 2K21 courses quickly going the way of the dodo.
It typically takes me around 3-4 months to make a course, so it seems like this is a non-issue for now. It'd be great if HB committed to a release date at least a few months in advance when the time comes.

PC designers can just copy out of their old game course file into the new game course file without the need of publishing or porting as long as HB have not done any major rewriting of the designer code.
