what an awful, but typical first round. I'm CC-Z, pretty much bottom of the class. (average around +6 to +15 a round.) So last night I did some practicing with my new controller to get used to it, and ended with a practice round at Chestnut Log. I hit a -1. Probably the best game I've had since starting here! I was excited, and looking forward to my real round when I got home from work tonight. Hit every single hole in the worst possible way, and ended with a +12. Then, decided to try to redeem myself, went and played Mahamba just for fun, from the blacks, and hit even. was it nerves, or bad luck? LOL Its a great game, great site, great people! Just keep playing!

One thing that I'm finding just a little puzzling is what to do with approach shots that are between clubs.
Say for example the shot you want to play is halfway between a 4 iron and a 5 iron.
I'm on Xbox and I can't make an adjustment to the strength of the shot with the swing. I've tried watching the animation and trying to hit a 90% shot but that doesn't work at all. Is that just me?
I then try altering the loft of the shot. I'm getting somewhere with this but I can't seem to make small adjustments to the loft. I've tried using both the stick and the d-pad to increase in small increments. I thought the D-pad would be better but it sometimes takes two or three presses to raise (or lower) the loft line at all - and sometimes one press will increase or decrease the loft significantly.
The other method I've tried is aiming away from the target and using a fade or draw to bring the ball in, covering a greater distance in doing so. I get the same problem with the loft/fade/draw meter though. I can't seem to make consistent changes.
All of that's fine. I really don't want to play the game by clicking two up and three left and knowing exactly where my ball is going to land. I would like to get just a bit more consistency though and to be able to make some smaller adjustments with a touch more predictability and consistency.
So what do others do when faced with a shot that's between clubs. Am I missing something obvious.

No.
You just covered all the possibilities. Lofting is the answer. Get on the range and plot out what each does. Then adjust for the wind. Then pray you don’t get slow fast.

Fired an opening round 64 on D. Hopefully, fingers crossed, striking my rabbit foot that I can stay consistent this week.

Thats great advice, Celtic Wolf, thank you! I've actually been doing that, picking a "practice" course to play right before my round that counts, from CC-A, True Sim, or a thread I found of someone's 50 favorite courses. I'm loving this community. Everyone seems great and I'm finding so many quality courses to play that I never even knew were out there! Hey Hushman, I'm certainly not an authority to listen to, but lofting is the way I do it, like Roy said. If I'm between clubs, I just increase the loft to make a longer distance shorter, or decrease it to make the shorter one longer. The way I pick which one to do is by looking at the green and deciding if I want to end up long or short if I mess up and hit the club regular distance. but then after all that calculating, I end up hitting slow/fast/out of the cone and I find the distance I got right, but I'm way right or left.

So what do others do when faced with a shot that's between clubs. Am I missing something obvious. Use the D-pad and adjust loft up/down. It takes some practice but you'll get used to it. And don't worry about the exactness of it; the game is designed so that exact distances are possible, but difficult to identify (for better or worse). The best players know the exact adjustments they need to make most of the time. Also, make sure you properly adjust the putting marker by bringing it closer to you for downhill putts. That marker helps control distance when putting.

R2 at DA ZIKA (71) -3 for the tourney if it weren't for 2 putts I'd have no putts at all lol. 3 putt from 7' didn't help. I have trouble with 180 speed. R3 tomorrow or Thursday.

Alright, Copa de Zika at the Chestnut Log, CC-D player here. Opened with a really disappointing 68, followed by an equally disappointing 67. Burned the edge on SO MANY PUTTS. Just cannot get a feel for putting in this game. Finished the tourney with a 65-66, which is better. With better putting...could have been 64s every round, easily. Really only felt that one or two pins were unfair...one on top of a knob with no way to get close on approach (that I could see), and one where I landed on a ridge that the grid said was "flat" but really just fell off both directions. I couldn't figure out how to read that one, and missed the putt badly. Widen out those ridges designers! Other than that, pretty good course. Got myself into trouble a couple times, which hurt (as it should). Ended then at -22 for the tourney, not sure if that will be exemption territory or not this week. I'm guessing it will be near the line.

That's good to know. I'll do a bit of testing on the range. Yeah I'd agree with Roy but would like to add a couple of things. Some people work out that for every 3 ft of elevation adds or minuses a yard to your distance. Keep in mind the green firmness and speed as it's easier to stop a ball dead on a soft green. Check for rough or bunkers as it would be better to add loft to carry them. If there is plenty of green that is flat in front of the pin try clubbing down and delofting as that will add a few yards on to your distance. Lastly if you adjust the loft remember to adjust your aim as the wind will affect the ball differently. Maybe try this out in a practice round so you can get the idea of different conditions and surfaces.

Been lurking for a bit on these boards but figured I’d start posting occasionally. Started in Q-school a couple months ago and was placed in CC-D. Pretty quickly fell to E. After coming close a couple weeks in a row was able to gain my exemption for a shot back into D this week.
So far opened the first 2 rounds with a 67 and a 69. Highlight of my brief tgc tour career so far was nailing a hole in one on the 2nd hole in round 1! -8 through the first two days and am hoping I’m on pace to keep myself in CC-D.
Anyways, just think this is a really fun part of the game and the boards seem like a great community. Keep up the good work all!

-10 for the week, struggled every round on the front 9 to come in better than even but made up for it on the back 9 on the first 3 rounds, didn't quite go to plan in R4 I had an awesome eagle putt from 30ft that i had to aim about 5 yards right of the hole! Then I went bogey, bogey, bogey and I should have been at least even through those 3 holes.
Not looking at a top 20 finish but I feel it should be top 50, there was alot lower scoring in R3 and R4 looking at the list of ghosts.
