I might get it if the price is right I was the same. I rarely pay top dollar for any game but I spotted F1 as a Deals with Gold (XB1) one week for 35% off and that hit the spot that I was prepared to pay for it. If you like your racing games with an immersive AI season, this is the one to get. Apart from some occasional dodgy AI moves that require you to use flashback, I'm loving it. One of the few consolations for missing cuts is that I get more time to play F1 LOL.

Just completed the US Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas. A much better outing than I had in Japan (where I finished 5th). Qualifying in light rain - with the bizarre result of myself and teammate Kevin Magnussen occupying the front row. I was stunned to see Magnussen qualify second, he's largely been crap all season, but man can he drive in the rain.
The weather cleared for the race itself, and predictably Kevin struggled to match my pace. Right from the start he began a slow backward journey, falling back to 8th after about 10 laps. His misery was put to an end on lap 13 when at the tail end up the uphill straight his power plant blew up in a huge plume of white smoke - his day was done.
Meanwhile, I got off to a good start on SS's, after choosing a SS-SS-S tire strategy. Everything was working well strategy wise until just after my first pit stop. I'd just managed to regain the lead within a couple laps after my pit stop, and of course out comes a SC phase. Throughout the race I'd opted to really look after the tires, and it paid off once we went green again. My tires were in great shape compared to most of the front runners, many of whom had also selected SS's for stint 2.
Final pit, and on to the softs for the final 11 laps. I had to track down Vettel from about 15 seconds behind, but had Riccardo and Hamilton on my tail all the way. Made the move on Vettel by outbraking him at turn 1, with 3 laps to go. Took the checkered flag with Vettel nipping at my heels, Riccardo almost level with Vettel, and Hamilton just behind. First four finishers separated by less than a second!
Race #18 in the books, and again, a completely unique experience in terms of how the starting grid looked, the race unfolded, and especially in terms of what the finish looked like.
On the downside, I have found another minor thing to gripe about - wanted to find out what had happened to Magnussen, so went to post-race Replay. Wanted to "fast-forward" to lap 13, which I knew was where Magnussen dropped out. Took forever to get there. Wish the replay player could fast forward much faster, or had the option of going to a particular lap more quickly. Still, a minor quibble.

Finally got my hands on F1 2016 as well. Thanks to Black Monday they had it on sale at the PS Store... -57% until tomorrow or so. That was €29.99, so I couldn't resist anymore. Can't wait to get my car out on the track for the 1st time when I'm back home after work.

You'll playing it so much you'll start to neglect golf and then before you know it I'll pass you in the rankings! Okay, so I'm dreaming. Enjoy the game Thomas.

Bought it too last weekend. Couldn't resist it for 30 euros.(re) started the career mode a couple of times since I need the correct difficulty level. I'm now 1 level above hard. Tried the pro career mode one but was unable to manage the car without any aids. Anyone here plays on PS4?

Sounds like you and I will have to connect for a session then! I've tried a couple online sessions, but TBH it's just as often demo-derby as it is racing.

Yes, I've played quiet a few Formula 1 (and racing) games before. But that was a few years ago, don't remember when I played one the last time. But to be honest, I still had difficulty set rather easy and almost anything assisted. I wanna have some (easy) races for practice done before I move difficulty up. I finished Qualifying in Australia a few hours ago and will start the race when I'm back home from work. I'm pretty sure I'll blow all things up when it's going into the first corner... Me (too).

LOL! Thomas goes through front wings just like Canuck! :-)
Watched your first race... Only thing I'd say is that you should have used a Flashback with that wreck that happened in front of you. You got the bogus time penalty for "passing illegally" under yellow there. Yeah... still some logic issues with the game. Actually thought you navigated thru the wreck pretty well considering that it happened directly in front of you like 15 meters directly in front.
Some other feedback: Don't forget to use your DRS! It'll really help you when you're right behind someone in the DRS zone. Worry less about trying to carry speed into the turn. It's far more important to be carrying speed out of the turn - so perhaps braking just a tiny bit earlier, and then getting back on the throttle as you pass the apex. Might want to also go with Partial Braking Assist instead of Full - you'll need to modulate braking, but will be faster once you get a feel for the brakes and the brake bias setting.
Oh...also I noticed you started the race on totally worn tires. Make sure you set your fastest time in Qualifying on tires that are only slightly used. You ended up having to make an extra pit stop because of the tire situation (well, ok...you had to come in anyway due to the wing, but you get what I mean). Lots and lots to get used to all at once, but it'll come together quickly!

I had to laugh... when I first got the game, I thought the "Career Mode" was actually the "Pro Career Option". I couldn't even get the car out of pit lane without destroying it! Even now, after god knows how many hours, I would be sooooooo uncompetitive trying to tiptoe a raging beast around a track with no Traction Control. Maybe with a wheel and pedals it's possible, but with just a PS4 controller, no way.

Watched your first race... Only thing I'd say is that you should have used a Flashback with that wreck that happened in front of you. As it was my very 1st race, I just wanted to see what happens after a crash. Restarted the whole race after it was finished. Better attempt then, finished 4th. Some other feedback: Don't forget to use your DRS! It'll really help you when you're right behind someone in the DRS zone. I basically know it's an absolute must to use it, but with everything happening around me I sometimes (still) seem to oversee it. Will try to avoid that going onward. Worry less about trying to carry speed into the turn. It's far more important to be carrying speed out of the turn - so perhaps braking just a tiny bit earlier, and then getting back on the throttle as you pass the apex. Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely try to heed it. Might also help to conserve my tires a bit...Oh...also I noticed you started the race on totally worn tires. Make sure you set your fastest time in Qualifying on tires that are only slightly used. I haven't watched a lot of F1-races lately, so I'm still not totally familiar with all those (new) setup/qualification regulations for tires, engines and what ever.

That Q2 / Q3 / Race start tyre thing is confusing and not well explained in game. My understanding is that if you make it to Q3 you start the race on the tyreset that gave you the fastest Q2 time. Correct? Assumes no wet tyres involved.
The other thing I keep missing is the amount of fuel the game defaults to during qualifying. It puts too much in for short qualifying stints so too much weight so slower times.

So strategy-wise in Q1 and Q2 you really don't want to drive the wheels off the car - just do enough to make it into the next session. If you post a decent time early in the session, you might as well pit immediately and watch the timing monitor (just like the guys who wear the big boy pants do). Go out again if you have to, or if it looks like you might get bumped out. Yeah, you have to manually adjust the fuel weight for qualifying. I usually take on enough fuel for 2, maybe 3 laps tops.
