Hi Guys, New to the forum and a new designer here. Rightly or wrongly I've decided my first venture into creating a course will be to try and copy my local course. I'm hoping this will give me a good feel for how the creator works and get me used to using most of the tools I would need for when creating my own course. Problem is I've run into a bit of a sticking point. How do I create a ditch?? I've had a hunt about for information but not really come across anything, maybe I'm being thick but I just can't figure it out! What I'm looking to create isn't actual a water hazard as such, merely a ditch that runs across the end of the fairway before the apron to the green. Hopefully I've attached the picture right so you can get a feel for what I'm after. Any suggestions ?

Use the FLATTEN command. Use the sharp-edged circle on page 5 of the brush menu. Scale down the brush as much as possible. Lower the elevation of the brush by about 5 feet. Start on one end of the ditch that you want to create. PRESS AND HOLD the apply button (A, X, left mouse button). SLOWLY drag the small circle brush to carve out the ditch. It will look terrible at this point but that's ok. Still using the FLATTEN tool, set the elevation back to 0. Switch to the very fuzzy round brush found on page 4 of the brush selection screen. Enlarge the brush a little bit. PRESS AND HOLD the apply button and TRACE the edge of your ditch.
Repeat as necessary until you get the look you want.
Taking on an RCR is a tough challenge because, not only do you need to know the technical aspects of building a course, but you also need to get accurate measurements so the course looks right.
It's probably easier to start a fictional course from scratch so you aren't confined by the characteristics of the real thing.

Great stuff, that's exactly the precise kind of answer I was after, thanks! . I will have a play later on when I get on.
Yeah, I get what you mean about it being tough to recreate an existing course. I'm under no illusions as to how tough it's going to be. I'm lucky in that I have a course guide and course knowledge to help with yardages. Google maps is a good fall back for a birds eye view of the holes. I've watched quite a few Youtube videos on how to build a hole from the ground up so I've definitely thrown myself in at the deep end. It may well be that it is a long on going project, time will tell!

Thanks scampi. Those are the videos I watched! Very helpful and a great insight.
Tbf I did watch them all in 1 sitting so have probably forgot a lot of the information mentioned. I will definitely be having another watch.
