Did some tree and bush clearing today on 9. still a lot of work to do. Trying to work in a checkerboard rough pattern... still experimenting with that at the moment though..

Also I just wanted to say that Yes there are a ton of plants and bushes on cart paths and bunkers... I'm still very early in my build and that is one thing I won't forget lol... I'm still getting a feel for the layout and views associated with each hole so bare with me... My goal is to make this one of the premier golf courses in this game... I'm probably going to spend months trying to perfect this one. Not 1 hole is finished yet... just basic rough drafts that could change... already some holes have changed...

looks very good so far. Im curious to see if the checkered rough works out for you. very cool idea.
Maybe in TGC2 they will give us two heavy rough brushes so we can set them to slightly different colors and make our own rough mow patterns

This looks really nice. I'm in progress on my first course myself and am impressed with how well you make the background look here. My focus has been mainly on the course layout so far (which is my primary interest in designing).

This looks really nice. I'm in progress on my first course myself and am impressed with how well you make the background look here. My focus has been mainly on the course layout so far (which is my primary interest in designing). That's awesome man! Here are a few tips & tricks I want to give you to help ensure you don't fall into the same pitfalls that I did and so many new designers do.
1.) Don't rush... Don't try and turn and burn a new course. Slow down, take your time. If it doesn't look real, delete what you just did and re-do it. 2.) Jot down some notes on something with ideas, themes and try to stick with them. But also expand on them. 3.) I like to start with a blank canvas... turn all the trees, plants, rocks and water all the way off and flatten the entire terrain. Then I start to build the terrain based on what my theme is. 4.) Don't do auto generate anything... layout, greens, fairways or tee boxes... create your own. This is huge... 5.) Start working your back 9 holes first... Because almost all designers when they first start pour a lot of attention and detail into the first 9 holes they start working on... By the time they get to the end of their design most people start getting burnt out and just want to finish and publish. So do your closing holes first. 6.) Work hard on making edges smooth especially around green fringes and bunkers. Constantly sculpt and blend... when planting do a lot of google images of golf courses and try to make the plants, grass, flowers etc... look as natural as possible. 7.) Background stuff is nice to look at but is time consuming and not really needed... it's just nice to have and some players like to imagine they're playing at a real course... sometimes the background stuff can help with that. 8.) Again... Take your time... don't rush. If you build a course in 4 days regardless of how many hours a day you put into it I can guarantee you that it's not going to be an elite course. It's ok if it takes you a month or 2 to build... Quality over quantity should be the focus.
As you can see I started my build about 6 days ago... I've poured in about 5 hours a day so far and I'm honestly only beginning on working on the front 9. I haven't even really started on smoothing out everything or sculpting and planting... just got basic ideas down and building on them. Look up Adam Benjamin in the courses section of the website and play some of his courses. I always use him as my reference because he is my favorite designer.
Have fun and good luck!

Hole 9 is going to be one of my favorite holes when it's all done.

I'm starting to get that excited feeling... but I have to keep it down because that will cause me to rush things... want this course to be absolutely perfect. I might release a Beta version of it and request feedback of things to fix... stay tuned.
