Just purchased the game on steam so I can do course design. Here is my first two hours spent on my newest course. Really focusing on the back ground University area before I really start on the golf course.

be sure to put at least twice as much focus and effort on the course itself vs how it looks and the backdrops.
newer designers have a tendency to over focus on planting and under focus on the most important parts.
also: a few tips:
try not to use single shapes, make it a goal of yours to mix and match shapes for all your greens and bunkers (excluding round bunkers if you are going for that look). we have over 100,000 courses, 95% of them are using single shape bunkers and greens. those shapes get boring over time.
move away from the 3 click light rough around all fairways, mix it up some here and there.
focus on learning the land sculpting, master it as fast as you can, that is where the cream is found, everyone else is just licking the outer shell.
if something does not look natural, remove it and/or redo it.

Thanks for the tips above. I'm really thinking of trying to go way outside the box with this course. I'm definitely going to focus a lot of time and energy into the precision vs. trying to crank out courses quickly. I'd love for this to be one of those courses like Artic Fury makes where you just sit back and go Damn...

That's a cool idea of the university backdrop. In fact, I might try it myself. If you don't mind, of course. Our universities could have a rivalry lol...
The J.W. Big Bears vs The Kessler Kangaroos (Sorry that I'm an idiot lol)

Taking a break from the University side and starting a Par 3 towards the river. I'm going to incorporate a few "Infinity" style greens this time.

Spent 2 more hours today. Here is some progress pics. All 18 holes have been mapped out but only 4 holes have actual fairways and greens. Just started to do some basic planting just to give myself an idea of what direction I want to head. I haven't really done much sculpting or blending at all.. basically just placing bunkers and doing a quick and dirty sculpt just to give myself a feel for the look. Will definitely refine before publishing. Like the way it's coming along though.

Saying goodnight from J.W. University Golf Club. Hole 8 is shaping up to be absolutely amazing. Check out that fresh cut grass between the fairway and green.

I Decided to turn the Trees to max just to see what my course is starting to look like... sometimes its hard to tell when you have the trees and plants off... everything looks so bald... But wow... I'm really liking the way it's looking...

Hole 2's green will have a nice view of the main road coming in and a slight view of 9's fairway / green up the hill.
